having watched packages track reliably across the country in a day or two, then sit in a distribution hub 30 miles from my home for 4 days... I say good, screw UPS, you suck.

My brother is a driver for UPS so I hope things turn around for them, but god@mn I hate when they are the delivery company of packages. Biggest PITA to deal with!

Ouch. Assuming that it isn't a management issue, that's a really bad sign for the world economy.

/there are few more economic bellwether companies than UPS and FedEx

I can report that Newegg's famous free-or-cheap next-day service on the east coast is gone. I ordered a widget from Newegg and it was handled by "UPS Mail Innovations". For a trip from Newegg's Edison NJ warehouse to NY, UPS handed it off to the USPS in Ohio.

They do that because you only paid for 6 day ground and they'll be damned if you get better service than you paid for. That's why I prefer Fed X or USPS.

I never had a problem with UPS until I moved away from California. Once I got to North Carolina, and now Texas, I discovered that brown won't even try to deliver to an apartment. 95% of the time packages go straight to the apartment management office without so much as a note telling me it's there. I call and complain and the poor bastards I talk to are very contrite, but nothing changes. Lazy asshats. Fed Ex for the win.

Hey subby who gets these "earnings" headlines with less than 50 comments greenlit on the Business tab every day:

You'll find the Obvious tag sneaking away with your package after making a half-assed attempt to check if anyone was home to get it.

Now back to your MarketWatch submitting

How can they possibly be in the red when the UPS Store can charge about 50 dollars a yard for cardboard? I was shipping a printer across the U.S and they wanted more for the box than the packing or shipping. The buyer was paying for them to pack it, but damn.

UPS stores are technically franchises. It may be that the materials sold in store count for very little revenue for UPS.

But I'm just conjecturing and have no real evidence one way or the other.

Wait: I thought the USPS/Post Office sucked a** but private companies like UPS and FedEx were great? I'm confused.

Next you're going to tell me that teabagging republicans don't know their ass from a hole in the ground, because, socialisms or something.
