Leeds: LasersHurt: Leeds: What's Obama's gameplan here? How can he pretend that he'll suddenly start trying to help the economy in a second term if he has a fundamental misunderstanding of how it works?

Seriously, it's almost like he wants to lose in November.

// It would be the first patriotic thing he ever did...

Honestly, it's the people who are enraged who fundamentally misunderstand business if they think that Government isn't involved throughout the process of their success. This is not to detract from their good work, by any means - it's simply a fact that is obvious to anyone who doesn't have their head up their ass.

And you suggest that if the government hadn't put itself in charge of building and maintaining roads, we would all be stuck at home with no means of traveling past our own outhouses?

Just because the government has taken something over does not mean that it couldn't or wouldn't exist without government. Please understand that.

Things like the Internet, interstate highways, international airports, school for everyone, bridges and Dams would not exist without government. There is no immediate profit for the free market on those things. This is just fundamental reality. It is weird that this fact is so easily denied by otherwise sane people.

Did you not read his blog at all? The government couldn't have created the internet. "If government had invented the Internet, it would operate with the same speed as the U.S. Postal Service". You can't argue with logic like that.

1 Terabyte downloaded at 10 Megabits per second (Link) takes, let's see...

8,796,093,022,208 bits in a TB, divided by 10 bits a second, divided by sixty, divided by sixty, divided by 24, divided 365 equals over 27 centuries (public schooling so please check my math).

Or, you could mail a hard drive using the USPS.

Um, 8 megabits per second would be 1 megabyte per second, and there's 1024 * 1024 megs in a tera, so you're actually talking about something like 290 hours, or like 12 days-ish.

Lol, 10 bits a second would be worse than when I had to tether to my old phone running GPRS (pre-EDGE). I hope he is not using unicode.

The right are acting like children. They can't admit that they are able to achieve a great standard of living due in part to the massive infrastructure that the government has spent centuries developing. It is a sad statement of character, really.

It is easy to mess up the bit/byte math and the 1024/1000 megabyte oddity. I could see, however, that you just went too fast and took the "10 megabit" without the megabit. That is why I never do any Math in a public forum. I would do the same thing.

Not sure why but all of this "i did it all myself ....no one and no gubmint helped me" reminds me of this...

I Made a big snowstorm on the 4th of July
And drunk the waters in the Atlantic Ocean 'til that s**t was dry
I was makin' money before Washington was put on a bill
And I kicked Jack's ass and took his hoe Jill

I'm the one who broke the bull's back
And made people say f**k McDonald's
And call ME the Big Mac

I've been slapped by a bear and bit by an eel
I chew up railroad iron, and s**t out steel
I jumped in the ocean and swallowed a whale
Handcuff lightning and throw thunder's ass in jail

I made pimpin' a full time job
So biatches wouldn't have to go out and rob
I made the streets of New York hot as a sauna
And hung a home sweet hoe sign on every corner

/Only slightly more hyperbolic statements that the "i did it all myself" crew
//dolomite...the player of all players
///Gave a headache to Excedrin'...knocked the s**t out of Ex-Lax

Lando Lincoln: Leeds: What's Obama's gameplan here? How can he pretend that he'll suddenly start trying to help the economy in a second term if he has a fundamental misunderstanding of how it works?

Perhaps you could explain this fundamental understanding that you have that Obama does not. I mean, if it's fundamental then it should be pretty easy to explain in a sentence or two.

I think perhaps the fundamental misunderstanding is on the part of Leeds in that he's incapable of reading and comprehending entire sentences and actually thinks that Obama is either A) Anti-business or B) Equates pointing out the indisputable truth that nobody's success happens in a vacuum devoid of the laws, infrastructure and stability brought about by government with telling a person who starts a business that they didn't build that business.

The fact of the matter is that despite the fact that Republican driven policies have demonstrably made the American economy and especially the middle class weaker than it could or should be they still have an aura of being "better than the Dems w/ the economy" and this out-of-context smear job is just the latest attack on that front. The Dems really need to start fighting back better on that front.

Let's just cherry pick from your derp and take a couple of examples.

How the f*** can you pretend that bridges would not exist without government being involved? Are you ignorant of the existence of private bridges? What about private toll roads? You are aware that they were the norm as the automobile industry first took off, are you not?

Or what about private rail lines? Or private mail delivery services? Or any of the millions of other examples that prove that you and Obama are retarded little idiots?

those things would likely exist. However, in many cases they are things which the government provides in common which is a much more efficient way of administering them.

Aldon was incorrect in stating that they would NOT exist. They would. They would just be worse than what we currently have in many ways and cases. Don't call people "retarded". That word acts more like a mirror than a spear.

Weaver95: Obama's you-didn't-build-that comments were the most telling moment in the campaign so far. The president is bitter and frustrated, due to his inability to run away from Romney in the polls. Hence his off-script spasm in Roanoke, where he sounded like the villain in an Ayn Rand novel:

"Look, you've been successful. Look, you didn't get there on your own....I'm always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart.... It must be because I worked harder than everybody else," said the man who's played 100 rounds of golf since taking office.

why do Republicans think it's honorable to be looted and pillaged by banks and corporations? 'oh noes - the gubbermint can't screw me over, that's WRONG!' they say...but when the bank illegal fixes loan rates or corporations ship jobs overseas, well...the GOP shills are ok with that sort of thing. If you stand up against wall street abuses - even if you are reasonable about your objections - then to the Republicans that makes you a 'marxist'. And I find that attitude...weird. disturbing too, since it harkens back to the days of the Red Scare and McCarthyism. is that where the Republicans want to take us? back to a government run inquisition?

Inquisition? Come on, you're smarter than that. Think about the psychology behind the conservative mindset. What would make these people comfortable? Single-party, authoritarian if not totalitarian rule.

The problem is that these people believe that they are the ones who will be in charge, having no ability to grasp the simple fact that it will be their masters, the bankers and politicians and CEO's, the Mitt Romney's of the world so to speak, who will be in charge, and they're not going to like it one bit once those in power consolidate their power.

"To fail to experience gratitude when walking through the corridors of the Metropolitan Museum, when listening to the music of Bach or Beethoven, when exercising our freedom to speak, or ... to give, or withhold, our assent, is to fail to recognize how much we have received from the great wellsprings of human talent and concern that gave us Shakespeare, Abraham Lincoln, Mark Twain, our parents, our friends. We need a rebirth of gratitude for those who have cared for us, living and, mostly, dead. The high moments of our way of life are their gifts to us. We must remember them in our thoughts and in our prayers; and in our deeds."

I do not have the time right now to check, but this is factually wrong. The internet is a combination of several things, but the 2 major things that make it work, are TCP/IP (Created by a pair of DARPA engineers, US DoD) which allows different networks to communicate with each other, and the World Wide Web, which was developed by CERN (funded by 20+ european stats)

also, what makes the post office slow (his comparison) are things that the internet does not deal with, as the transit time for a bit is less then a second, while the transit time for a letter is much more noticable depending on mode of transportation.
