(Daily Kos)   The Tea Party decided to inject some fun into NV's sleepy, little Democratic state senate primary, but in so doing, they may have just exposed their biggest financial supporters to the national spotlight. Funny, huh?   (dailykos.com) divider line 71

Under federal law, AFP can do as much of this as it wants while disclosing as little as possible by simply leaving out terms like "vote for" and "defeat". However under Nevada state law, any organization using campaign advertising (including mailers) designed to influence an election is subject to disclosure requirements, regardless of what kind of language that organization uses in its advertising.

it's going to suck when they sue, get it bumped to the Supreme Court, and the Roberts court finds disclosure laws of all sorts un-Constitutional.

Daily Kos? Can they ever be believed? The writer sure was giddy over his article.

In the meantime, what can be said that would discredit the tea party any further? nothing. This is why this article doesn't matter.

Soooo many brave, patriot conservatives.....afraid to be associated with the very ideals they espouse and spend money to further.

It amazes me how they can feel so strongly about things and be embarrassed by them at the same time.

Some might say that's cowardice.

While it would be nice for some of those names to come out, it won't really fix anything. Most people won't care who the actual moneybags are, and the story will die a quick death while a misquoted statement will live on the rest of the election.

I think they done goofed.

Will it lead to the crumbling of the Tea Party and a radical shift in current American politics? Highly unlikely.

I'm guessing that the people who donate many millions of dollars to such groups can also spend many millions of dollars to mitigate the P.R. fallout, especially when given sufficient warning.

I'd like to understand the thought process that goes into making a sign like that. No, not the planning of the content, but of the capitalization of certain letters. "Hmmm, you know what would look nice graphically? If I capitalize the letter T in 'Hitler' while keeping most of the other letters lower case. Just like I did for the B in 'OBama.' It might look like I did this after popping the cork on the ol' jug, but it also will be deeply moving and thought-provoking."

Capital "T" for Tea bag party. Can't capitalize Hitler because that is recognizing him as a person and legitimizing socialism. "OB" in Obama is capitalized like "OB-Gyn" who abort babies...

Something like that, or it's completely random.

Wow. Spending a little bit of "stupid money" on a Democratic Nevada Legislature primary may lead to the downfall of one of the Koch brothers' key astroturf front groups. Who would have ever guessed?

Yeah... good luck with that. Nothing will come of this.

Highly unlikely since the Citizens United decision explicitly states that disclosure is appropriate.

You really think Roberts, Alito, Kennedy, and Scalia are all going to flip from their position in Citizens United v. FEC and decide that disclosure laws are unconstitutional?

Bob was so excited - today was the day of the big anti-Obama rally. He had thought all day about what his sign was going to say and he had finally found a winner - Obama = Hitler. It was perfect. Short and concise. Everyone would know exactly how he felt. Hell, Obama might be worse than Hitler! Hitler never bowed to the Crown Prince of Arabia!

With this righteous anger flowing through him, he began to work. He made a big O on the paper he had chosen for his sign. Then he made a big B.

But something was wrong. He had made the letters too big! If he wrote OBAMA this big that's all he would have room for and people might think he was PRO Obama. That wouldn't do.

But what to do now? Bob decided that even though he had made very poor decisions and rushed head-first into this sign project without thinking it through he would continue. Never give up! He began writing in smaller letters and managed to fit his entire message on the paper. It didn't look very good but it was finished. And that's what counted.
