soopey: Flappyhead: Preds have matched. This is gonna be interesting....

Holy sheeeeeeeeet. Good for them?

I got a mental image of Holmgren spitting his soda out when he got the phone call saying they matched.

And like I said in the original thread about this, Holmgren has some key players approaching RFA in the next 1-2 years and he has essentially set a market price for franchise players. Girouxs agent is probably creaming his pants.

Don't get me wrong, I would've HATED that deal for the Wings (Nash has been overvalued his entire career) so I'm glad it didn't happen, but my God, what was Howson thinking?

Contract may be a bit high but Rick Nash is the 5th highest scoring forward in the league since the lockout. And he's never, ever had a decent centre in Columbus unless you count half a season of Jeff Carter. How is that overvalued?

Rick Nash is an excellent power forward, no question about it. But he was a #1 overall pick, has a cap hit of $7.8 million, has averaged just over 60 points a season in his career, and isn't very good defensively.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure his offensive numbers will improve with the Rangers and I think this was a GREAT trade for them.

But if Rick Nash's name was Dmitry Nashov, he'd be considered an underachieving, one-dimensional forward who has yet to live up to his size and potential. But since he's a Strapping Ontario Lad™, his perceived value is probably greater than it should be.

soopey: Think back to happier times. Like when the Canucks lost in the Stanley Cup Finals.

Oh that was a glorious day.

professorkowalski: soopey: What's the latest on the crusade for a new building? Weren't they supposed to unveil plans and/or have a vote this summer?

They're gonna be the Crooklyn Islanders in three years.

Three? They should buyout the remaining years and move now! They'll never get a new bldg. in Nassau/Suffolk county.

Either they move to Brooklyn...or to KC.
