um...Obama hasn't said anything anti-business. he's said that gee, maybe we shouldn't let banks loot and pillage at will and that hey, perhaps we should balance the needs of corporations with the rights of the individual....but that's not anti-business.

Pat Sajak, who's been broadcasting 30 years on those nice public airwaves?

This isn't a gaffe, or if it is, it's one of those Bidenesque "gaffes" that is unpopular because it stings to some people, but it's damn true. No one exists in a vacuum. No one built their business without hiring employees educated in public schools and shipping goods and/or receiving customers who drove over roads paved with public money.

Pat got his broadcasting training courtesy of the United States Air Force, where he was an Armed Forces Radio DJ.

But nobody, especially the government, ever helped him with his career.

I'm glad the GOP finally found something they could attack Obama on, even if they have to lie about it.

Cletus C.: mainstreet62: Cletus C.: If you're a president accused of being anti-business, even socialist in your policies, and you say something like "If you've got a business -- you didn't build that. Somebody else made that happen," even if it comes after a comment about roads and bridges, you said something stupid.

Politically, at least. Take your lumps and move on.

Looks like someone spun the wheel and landed on "Intellectually BANKRUPT".

Idiots took Obama's words out of context completely. He said nothing wrong, anyone with a brain knows this.

However, feel free to keep farking that chicken. I didn't make the chicken breast I bought at the store, someone else made that happen.

He left room for interpretation of his comments. Talking first about roads and bridges then saying "if you've got a business - you didn't build that" isn't definitive. In fact, it appears to lean more toward him referring to the business than the roads and bridges, as they would be the plural "you didn't build them."

What about the part where he literally tells you what the point he is making is?

"The point is, is that when we succeed, we succeed because of our individual initiative, but also because we do things together. There are some things, just like fighting fires, we don't do on our own. I mean, imagine if everybody had their own fire service. That would be a hard way to organize fighting fires."

If your opponents have to engage in quote mining in order to attack your statement, then you didn't commit a gaffe. Darwin's quote about the evolution of the eye is constantly misused by creationists, but that doesn't mean Darwin screwed up. All it means is that creationists have no interest in honest debate. The same principle applies here.

propasaurus: Game show hosts tend to be conservatives.

From that link.

A tiny island of Reagan Republicanism in the vast sea of liberal Hollywood, television's greatest arbiters of luck and love-including Chuck Woolery, Drew Carey, Wink Martindale, Merv Griffin, and many others-have regularly loaned their support and opened their wallets to right-wing candidates and causes, collectively donating more than $100,000 since 1998.

Holy crap, I was just making a joke and used him cos his name sounds funny.

Did not realize Wink really was wingnut.

CSB time.

I went on a game show once. It was called 'Lingo' and was filmed here in Vancouver back in the 90s. Over three episodes I "won" 8,000 in cash and prizes including a trip for two to Australia. Never saw the money or the trip. Nobody did. Everyone who went on the show got ripped off. People sued, launched a class action suit, all that and to no avail. The guy they got to host that game show was Reagan's adopted kid, Mike Reagan, who was at the time an out of work used yacht salesman desperate for a gig. He eventually went on to become a loathsome RW pundit, of course.

So... getting a real kick, etc.

/CSB.

You didn't get to where you are without help either, Pat. Vanna has been carrying that show since the eighties.

What is it with game show hosts? I heard Chuck Woolery shilling for reverse mortgages the other day.

Anything that's not complete and total capitulation and submission to our rightful corporate overlords=anti-business.

Sorry, Pat. Merv Griffin was the Job Creator, you're just the aging eye candy for midwestern housewives. The only job you create is paying the escort service an extra $100 to "make sure he's fully shaved AND wearing the Trebek mask."

When deciding whether he was joking, keep in mind that Pat Sajak writes occasionally for the National Review Online.

The man is a moron.

NewportBarGuy: Wait a second here. Are you trying to tell me that you don't have to be intelligent to host a game show? When the f*ck did this happen and why did no one notify me?!
