Also ... 82. Damn. Sheriff Arpayoso is 80. They can live an awful long time, can't they?

So, he fired the whole town? Yeah, I can see where they might be pissed off.

No, there's eight-tenths of a person still employed by the city. Apparently he didn't want to fire the short guy.

THIS is why I love fark.com. Small town craziness is the best craziness.

I won't stop laughing about the mayor's deeply penetrated wife for hours.

Mechanic 2: Ain't never seen anyone so shiat-all stupid as you driving off that road. You musta got manure for your brains.
Clark: Yeah, well, we're from out of town. How much do I owe you?
Mechanic 1: How much you got?
Clark: No, I'm asking how much the repairs are.
Mechanic 1: And I'm asking how much you got!
Clark: You're out of your mind. Look, I don't have time to fool around so how much is it?
Mechanic 1: [waving a wrench] All of it, boy!
Clark: What does your sheriff think of your business practice?
[Mechanic 1 laughs and shows Clark his sheriff's badge]

Heh, it sounds like he tried to fire the cops as he was being arrested, there's a bit of an oversight in that headline there.

Jobs Americans can do after 65:

- WalMart Greeter
- "Special" Security Guard
- Various careers in the arts (acting, writing, music)
- Making legal decisions for thousands of people at the local level or millions of people at the national level.

"One of these jobs is not like the others... one of these jobs just DOESN'T BELONG."

Reminds me of a short sci-fi story. A town get the first robot police. All seems well, until they start arresting people for violating Blue laws and other trivial (but technically illegal) actions. Then the robot cops start arresting the cops that try to interfere in their arresting the people committing the trivial offenses. Heck, one cop gets arrested for theft and mis-use of official property for taking a paperclip "to repair a private lingerie strap".

In the end, a reporter wonders who'll come out on top- the mayor, who is the only person with the authority to shut down the robot cops, or the robot cops who are bound to uncover the mayor's bribe-taking and corruption.

Arpaio is older than what Wikipedia and his bio say. He and his crew have been lying about his age for a long time, and this last election were very diligent because they felt he'd lose if people knew he was over 80.

as the mayor to my city. Things can absolutely be worse.

Marginally.

2012-07-24 01:31:00 AM
A bit surprised this just now made it on to Fark, but meh. I apologize for my town's southern neighbor (I live in Auburn, immediately north/northeast of Pacific) electing a complete and utter farkwad who thinks he can get away with anything just because he's mayor.

And for those wondering, he's been in power all of about 7 months. I have no idea what political party he sways towards, but he's like a Republican from Hell in terms of what he's done. The City Clerk took out a restraining order against one of Sun's cronies, and he himself apparently has also been pounding on her door which is what lead to her asking the police to lock up her office. He's laid people off left and right, scared the crap out of a lot of others with his antics, and even named himself as the "Public Works/Community Development Director, and Engineer" of the town.

In a nutshell, he's kind of like a rancid peanut, wrapped in the county's flag, seasoned with delusion, and planted in a fetid swamp.

Although I did laugh my ass off at the one idiot claiming it was "unconstitutional" to arrest the mayor...

2012-07-24 01:43:16 AM
Apparently from a Google search the prior mayor, Hildred, had warned that the city would regret having Cy Sun. No statements anywhere as to party affiliation but by statements made he fairly much matched Tea Party rhetoric verbatim. Not only have people been fired and he's been arrested but the town is losing critical insurance coverage due to his stupidity.

And nobody can build anything in town because there's nobody to deal with permits.

They have had town meetings that have fun full of people begging the guy to step down and he refuses. He's power hungry and has no idea of the damage he's been causing and has no clue how things work in city government.

No, not HIS stupidity, remember. The blame has to go to Obama, liberals, degradation of of Christian morals, Gays, Moose-limbs, and high taxes that caused it all.

I am horrified that they would refer to a maimed person as eight tenths of a person, but simultaneously intrigued that they can be so accurate that they feel confident expressing that to the thousandths. Does their doctor use a digital micrometer to measure stumps or something?.

This is part of the story that gets me. The cops are preventing him from doing something that is completely legal? Really? Grounds for firing might not be so sketchy after all..

I've been using "Fetch Text URL" add-on in FF for a long time now. It's superior to the built in one, because it sanitizes mangled URLs, like removing spaces, line breaks and extra characters in front.

The original add-on was abandoned by the author so you'll have to use the fix version.
