Carr can read the writing on the wall and doesn't want to make adversaries of the (future) Obama administration.

That and he was misquoted.

So, a Republican complaint against Obama is that he doesn't treat our allies well. And then Romney pulls this with one of our strongest allies?

Aussies are so far up Americas arse. First, along with the U.K they have been Americas most loyal war on terror stooge. Then allow U.S to set up bases on Aussie land to fight Chinese influence in the South Pacific.
In return for their loyalty, Australia gets mentioned quite a few times in the epic adventure tv show "Lost"
and accepts Keith Urban and his wife as one of their own

A source told me that U.S threatened Australia into joining both Afghanistan and Iraq wars.
That if they didn't, that they wouldn't only be geographically isolated from most of the world but also economically because the US would behind the scenes put the screws to other countries and force them to stop being friendly to Australia

Canada helped behind the scenes during the first week.. but after that we weren't much help
and Canadian government is still paying for it

2012-07-23 09:20:04 PM
The quote was correct. Where Mittens went wrong was telling the Aussie minister what he meant when he said it.

"America is one step from ending their economic trouble."

"What you mean is America is one step from economic disaster! OBAMA IS TO BLAME!!"

"What I meant was America is one step from ending their economic trouble, douchebag."

I'm getting really tired of the 'take our country back' BS. Especially after a week of central Missouri political ads while I was on vacation. No, you can't kick the other 70% or so of the nation out of the country for the crime of not being a hateful bigot.

Harper was in turns, pissing off Europe, Russia, South America, and much of the Middle East and Asia. Mostly immigration shenanigans, but gloating about our banks rubbed everyone that was paying attention too... That they take credit for our strong regulated banks is a joke. The only reason we(Canadian Banks) didn't flame out like the states was because they hadn't been able to get their de-regulation legislation through before the melt down.
No we screwed that seat all by our selves.

'Take our country back' is just the standard dog-whistle evolving.

First it was blatant: "Segregation now, segregation tomorrow, segregation forever"

Now it's all about "states' rights" and "taking our country back" because racism isn't widely accepted anymore.

parliamentary government. as to the second question, we'd have to ask an expert on the subject - assuming george clinton is available, of course.

Our PM at the time, Howard, was a hardcore US kowtow-er. No idea why you'd imagine that we would need to be threatened, there was strong support for going into Iraq/Afghan from both sides of the political spectrum.

The citizens of the country, well that's a different story. When 5% of your population protests^ in one mass organised event, it's not very popular.

On topic, Carr is a hard-leading leftie. There's no way he'd support Romney.

There was a lot more to it than that (you are correct). Sure we pissed off a lot of people but for the last 12 years it's been habitually self preservation. From the retarded cousine that is a slap in the face to most countries. We came out on top and it fries people's asses. We snotted the bank fiasco, the Iraq war, gay marriage etc. We are being punished, fair
and square.

the prime minister (and other ministers, such as the foreign guy in question here) are drawn from the ranks of what would be equivalent to our senate. think of it as if the president, and his cabinet being formed from the leading party in the senate. the atomic dog is still on the hook for elucidating the paycheck situation, tho.

Austrialian Foreign Minister: And all of a sudden, with energy independence crystallising, with technological innovation, resurgence of American manufacturing,[and] people who spoke about American decline could be revising their thesis

Given the current intransigence of the Republican party, the odds of getting all three of those issues into one budget deal, let alone one budget conversation, are astonishingly small. That's the reason people might talk about an American decline - the cold war being fought by half our political system.

Do you guys really care if we swing left or right? I know I don't really care about Australian politics. It's your island, run it how you see fit and all that. The US-Australia relationship is probably as good as it gets between two countries. I can't imagine internal politics of either country changing that relationship in any meaningful way.
