Hmmm.... This is strange. The University or NCAA didn't consult with Paterno's family AT ALL? I thought ALL prosecutors, judges, panel members, and decision makers ALWAYS consults with the families of the accused or shamed?

Weaver95: the Paterno family should get used to the fact that Joe Paterno's legacy was corrupted and destroyed by his own actions. NOTHING they can say will fix that fact. accept it and move on with life.

And, maybe change their family name to something a little less reviled, like "Hitler".

Let me clarify, if someone were involved in a crime and someone died during the commission of that crime they were facing 5 or 6 felony charges, including the crime of "Murder in the 1st Degree" and they later were convicted (or plead guilty) to the felony of Manslaughter it isn't correct to claim that they were convicted of Murder. They were convicted of Manslaughter and it is a separate crime from that of Murder.

Just like Unlawful Sexual Intercourse with a Minor (according to California law at the time) is NOT the same as Rape. If you claim he plead guilty to Rape, then you are simply factually incorrect.

What OJ didn't wasn't MURDER murder, because he wasn't convicted of it.

Tearing down the statue of Joe Paterno does not serve the victims of Jerry Sandusky's horrible crimes

Appropriate, since Joe Paterno didn't serve the victims either.

From today's statement:

the President, the Athletic Director and the Board of Trustees accepted this unprecedented action by the NCAA without requiring a full due process hearing before the Committee on Infractions

Also appropriate - rather than challenging the sanctions, they decided to look the other way.
