This is a case of social imbalance. Yes, there may be a lot of rich people in South East Asia but the economic divide between the rich and poor over there is so huge, being too wealthy becomes immoral if you are not doing something about it.

Sure. A lot of Chinese families earned a $1,000 a year just a decade ago. Now they earn $2,000!

A lot of people in this world get by on a dollar or less per day. China has brought more folks out of poverty than all other nations combined, I think I read. Of course, this is mostly because the commies kept them poor for so long.

I say give credit where credit is due. With any luck this world of first, second, and third world countries, with the first two fighting a Cold War whilst plundering the third for resources is over. Now we fight for human rights.

On a percentage of people in prison by country, for those countries that report it, the US is number one, ahead of Russia. 715 per 10,000 people in the States, 584 per 10000 people in Russia. China is ranked at 119 per 10000

I'm pretty sure those statistics are inaccurate. In china, most of them are probably dead or not reported. In Russia, there's probably still the Gulags around.
