Slives: Yea, I have said it before, but the president has about as much control over the economy has my 4 year old strapped into her child seat as control over my car.

Obama does have a pretty bad economic record, but at least some of that is because of GOP interference.
If the Republicans had just sat back and let things happen and the economy had still been as bad, I could blame the Democrats. But they could not risk the economy turning around on Obama's watch, so they had to help make sure it did not. They have shown pretty clearly that their need to be in power is more important than the welfare of the country.
And they stand a pretty good chance of getting rewarded for it.

You might want to read up.

Yeah, we need to start more unnecessary wars without funding and give more money to rich people, then the economy will magically fix itself, right?

2012-07-23 01:31:34 PM
And yet Mittens will STILL lose by over 100 electoral votes. Because the reality is that the Republicans have absolutely nothing better to offer than platitudes about being "job creators" and thinly veiled handouts to billionaires.

And your chosen candidate is an animatronic Yankee Richie Rich who wants you to ignore that he was basically an Obama clone when he governed Massachusetts.

That must suck.

The economy won't improve until Romney releases his tax returns.

Someone needs to introduce a bill that would place a plaque above the entrance of the Capitol building that says, "Republicans are obstructionists."

Barbecue Bob: Forget the politicians. They are irrelevant. The politicians are put there to give you the idea that you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice! You have OWNERS! They OWN YOU. They own everything. They own all the important land. They own and control the corporations. They've long since bought, and paid for the Senate, the Congress, the state houses, the city halls, they got the judges in their back pockets and they own all the big media companies, so they control just about all of the news and information you get to hear. They got you by the balls.

They spend billions of dollars every year lobbying, lobbying, to get what they want. Well, we know what they want. They want more for themselves and less for everybody else, but I'll tell you what they don't want:

They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them. Thats against their interests.

Thats right. They don't want people who are smart enough to sit around a kitchen table and think about how badly they're getting farked by a system that threw them overboard 30 farking years ago. They don't want that!

You know what they want? They want obedient workers. Obedient workers, people who are just smart enough to run the machines and do the paperwork. And just dumb enough to passively accept all these increasingly shiatty jobs with the lower pay, the longer hours, the reduced benefits, the end of overtime and vanishing pension that disappears the minute you go to collect it, and now they're coming for your Social Security money. They want your retirement money. They want it back so they can give it to their criminal friends on Wall Street, and you know something? They'll get it. They'll get it all from you sooner or later cause they own this farking place! Its a big club, and you ain't in it! You, and I, are not in the big club.

The obedient and ignorant guys that "run the machines" are the software jerks that are so abundent on Internet forums. You know who I'm talkin about. The idiots who act like having the most narrow form of knowledge is proof that they are a big deal. The Dunning Kruger effect personified.

Pocket Ninja: Look. The fact of the matter is that, for three years now, Obama has walked into the Oval Office every morning (assuming he wasn't on some taxpayer-funded jaunt to Asia that tied up half our available naval fleet and cost hundreds of millions of dollars), sat down in his leather armchair that cost more than most Americans will earn in a lifetime, and chosen to press the "ruin economy" button on his desk. Every single time. Most presidents learn to not press that button after two, three months. They learn that the button next to it, "maintain economy," or the button next to that one, "improve economy," are the ones they should use. But not Obama. Obama just keeps pressing the same button, over and over and over again. Einstein told us that insanity is doing the same thing again and expecting to still be fooled. But you can't be fooled again, that's the thing. Unless you're Obama. He's choosing this and that's what I think is unconscieinshaeable.

Hm, actually that's a fairly accurate description of what Obama has done for the last 3 years.

But it's nice to see you admit to it anyway.

The Homer Tax: Quoting myself from another thread:

61% of people think that either: Congress, Wall Street, or George W Bush are "most to blame" about the economy compared to 34% who think Obama is.

This is bad news...for Obama.

Which is also pretty much the exact % of Americans who are die hard Republicans. Strange that.

The only reason we haven't created 20 trillion jobs is because he didn't fast-track the Keystone pipeline and instead used all the money to take a 400 trillion dollar trip to India.

It's the American way... according to the GOP.

So we just need to wait a bit longer for that "trickle down" shiat that they keep telling us about?

I know right. Because if it really were that easy, of course Obama would be pushing the "Improve economy" button. I mean, why would he continue pushing the "Ruin economy" button?

Unless, he's...

Dear Sheldon,

You apparently don't understand the difference between plurality and majority. Let me explain. When the highest proportion of respondents give a particular answer, but that proportion is no more than 50%, the result is a plurality, not a majority. A majority only exists when the proportion is more than 50%. For example, in the poll a plurality of likely voters (34%) said Obama is "most to blame for America's economic woes", but a majority (61%) said the cause was something else. On the other hand, when asked whether Republicans in Congress have done the right things to revive the economy, a majority (57%) said "No". Do you understand now?

Sincerely,
DarwiOdrade

2012-07-23 02:00:55 PM
Alternatively: 2/3 of likely voters do not believe Obama is most to blame for our economy.

HAH! That does sound pretty stupid like that. I think I meant to say his effort has been pretty bad IMHO. He could have spent a lot more time and effort with pushing bills that were designed to help the economy. Instead, he spent much of the first 2 years getting the healthcare stuff passed and otherwise spent a lot of time trying not to ruffle too many feathers.
I sort of hopes he wins a second term and decides to forgo the bipartisan crap and starts pushing hard. Either he will steam roll the Republicans or prove that he really is in over his head.
