I doubt Holmes had time for video games. He had his education going, his target practice, and his bomb-building hobby..

Blaming video games for violence. Is it 1994 already?

Maybe it was Minecraft for all you know. Sheesh.

Interests: Glimpses into Holmes' apartment show that he had a poster of the video game Soldiers of Misfortune

I don't play ANY paintball and I can see, with my eyes, that this is not a video game poster. Those are photographs. Of people playing Paintball.

The worst "news" publications in the US are really getting a run for their money in terms of the sheer awfulness of the Daily Mail.

I was all geared up to comment on how it doesn't look like they're blaming video games so much as just pointing out what type of nutjob he was--like if they'd said he had a million cats, that wouldn't be cat-blaming. But then I got to that part of the article and changed my mind.

/ It even says "the new DVD from Something Productions". These people are bad reporters, and they should feel bad.

Just create a mandatory death penalty for going on a killing spree. That would stop all killing sprees, right Republicans?

I think tax cuts for not going on a killing spree would be more effective. Tax cuts can fix everything.

Soldiers of Misfortune?

FPS are like World of Warcraft?

BBwahahahahahahahahahahahaahah.

Oh. Oh boy. You guys in the media crack me up. Stick to reporting about the latest trend of wearing an onion on your belt, guys. I hear there's this new-fangled electricity thing that's all the rage.

2012-07-23 11:44:42 AM
It also suggested that a recent breakup from a girlfriend could've pushed him over the edge.

So, lessee:

World of Warcraft make you crazy? Maybe.
Women make you crazy? OH HELLS YES

We should ban women. Do it for the children!

/or something
//hey, stupid conjecture deserves an equally stupid post

2012-07-23 11:47:48 AM
God this crap is stupid. Unless the guy went in there screaming "LEROY JENKINS!" then you don't have any evidence that a video game (or any video games for that matter) contributed to him going farking crazy.

And I hate Daily Fail for writing such terrible articles with such bad information. It's a PAINTBALL poster you limey bastards.

Anti-social: Holmes was thought to be a recluse who covered his windows with black garbage bags so that no one could see in.

or he was too cheap/poor to buy blinds??

Since it's the daily fail we can assume safely that those are garbage bags being put in place after the cops broke the windows to get a peak inside.

Wait, not wanting to let your neighbors stand around outside your windows, staring at you is being 'anti-social?'

I'm a misanthropic recluse, and even I don't do that, since my neighbors aren't constantly face up against my windows peering in.

At least not anymore, after that whole clown/watermelon thing.

Even if video games were the reason he did this, given the millions of people who play video games without incident, it's a pretty good ratio.

nope
video games are not even CLOSE to correlated with this kind of behavior. IF violent video games caused violent crime in the real world, the number of violent crimes would have skyrocketed. Religion and political party are more correlated with violence than video games. so we should start by banning them.

LOL

Yes, because playing swords and sorcery games automatically make crazy people want to use guns.

I developed a video game addiction after I broke my leg last fall. I was playing twenty hours a day. Then when my leg got better, I had this crazed notion that real life had become the game. Almost on auto-pilot, I went out, bought a farm, and started caring for animals. And now it really sucks because these things actually shiat all the time, like twenty-four hours a day of shiatting. My back is killing me and I'm seriously considering just burning this motherfarker down.

Sounded like they were blaming losing his job and his girlfriend more than video games.

And I agree that those are more likely why he snapped. The video games just gave him ideas to use while snapped.

Why is mass murder in fantasy and media mass OK while real-world mas murder is not?
Seem to me the popularity of murderous violence in video games and other media is a tacit validation.

Let's see. Dude dresses up like the Joker (a copyrighted character, amirite?) and shoots up a theater full of people there to see a Batman movie.

Why no shootings at, "Sound of Music" screenings?

The article also mentioned a "lack of romance" in Holmes' life. Hell, if a lack of romance causes killing sprees, I should change by name to Joesph Left-hand Stalin.

Also, I've notticed that there's been complete silence about any political beliefs this nut held. Given that he was a phd grad student, I'd bet my next paycheck that he's some kind of leftist and/or liberal, and if there were any evidence at all that he distrusted or disliked the government, we'd be treated to endless rejoinders and speculation about how this had to be part of his motive, and we'd move right along from "act I: video games" into "act II: conservative talk-radio" of the blame game.

My grandmother and aunt almost came to blows during a game of Uno. Grandma wasn't even playing. But the cards were in the room so I think it's fair to blame Parker Brothers.
