While I do approve of their action, I am quite worried that it will come back to bite the marriage equality sides ass. Bigots will use things like this as evidence of the ongoing "homosexual agenda". And, being a kid centric piece, you can bet your ass the bigots will do what they can to stomp this company to the ground to prevent further "brainwashing"

I don't give a good goddamn how bigots 'use' doing the right thing against those who are indeed doing the right thing. History will not look favorably upon them. They've already lost.

Problem is is that I can see them using this as ammunition to send to their newsletter friends of the "homosexual brainwashing" that is going on. Those farks are a powerful voting bloc. And, although the world is changing, we are still no where close where we need to be in relation to civil rights for homosexual couples. Until someone at the federal level moves this to a federal civil rights issue, them we will never be anywhere near close.

Good on 'em. Jim would be proud. Heck, even Dominar Rigil would be proud...

The Skeksis, probably not so much, but the Gelflings and Mystics would.

Lesson: don't side with the Skeksis...

Screw em. Their kids won't care, because their kids are growing up in a different generation that isn't scared of gay people. Let the bigots whine about Kermit and Miss Piggy. It just makes them look more marginalized and ridiculous. I hope they make a huge fuss about this, all the better.

I've never seen a muppet toy in any of the hundreds of the Chic-fil-a kids meals I've bought for my kids. Lately, all I seen is booklets in the Chic-fil-a kids meals. And what toys my kids have received in their Chic-fil-a kids meal usually are tradied for a kid's ice cream cone.

Whatever. I say do the right thing and be damned the response. The greenlit "One Million Moms vs. One Million Muppets" thread tomorrow will be soon forgotten.

50 years from now this will all seem so silly.

Honestly, it's a moot point. Their numbers are dwindling. Their own children simply don't care about what someone's sexual orientation is. You can have all the ammo in the world but when it's you against the world...you lose.

It's just too bad you did it the hard way and made it take longer.

Chick-fil-a's owners break my heart. They make an excellent product, treat their employees exceptionally well, run the business with a conscience rather than solely for profit motive, and are, in most respects, excellent and admirable people.

But, they are also bigots, and that cannot be overlooked or excused.

Saddest of all is that it is so farking unecessary. They take this stance on gay marriage because they believe it conforms to their Chritistian beiliefs, yet Christ never said ANYTHING about gays, much less gay marriage and in fact the bible itself is silent on the subject except for one ambigious line in Leviticus (back among the prohibitions on shrimp eating and wearing cotton-poly blend clothes) and one oblique reference by Paul, who was actually condemning the general moral excesses of NERO for fark's sake. (and Paul was almost certainly a self-hating closet case himself who thought EVERYBODY should be celibate , because why make babies when christ was coming back before the end of that generation anyway? Since he blew that call so badly I wonder if he really should be christianity's go-to guy on this stuff anyway)

You make it sound like they need actual legitimate material to "publish in their newsletters" so to speak. Things like this don't happen often, what happens during those offtimes? Gay Threat Level: Blue, general risk of gay activities?

This.

History will look back on people who have discriminated, lobbied against, and persecuted people for their sexual orientation with the same horror and shame as they do those who did the same to people because of the color of their skin, or the gender they were born with.

And let us not forget that the Muppets are made of mixed fabrics and deserve smiting.

Muppets are irrelevant and past it's prime.
Chick-Fil-A is irrelevant and never had a prime.

I think I've been to Chick-Fil-A once or twice in my life and I was not impressed. My kids don't like Sesame Street, Muppets, etc.

Having said that, I'm not going to question every business that I do business with to make sure their political agenda fits with mine perfectly. Do you support gay marriage? Do you support a woman's right to choose? Who did you vote for for President? Are you a Democrat, Republican? Do you support RON PAUL? Death penality? Are you an atheist, Christian, Muslem, Jew, Hindu, etc.? Did you support the Iraqi war? Do you support our troops? Do you employ illegal aliens? Does anyone in your supply chain employ illegal aliens. Made in America?

Yes, if I find out some business is supporting some organization that morally offends me, I'll be less likely to go there. But I can't survey everyone, and I am fairly sure many businesses support causes I may disagree with.

/ Sort of went off on a little tangent.

Meanwhile, very few companies or organizations with anti-gay-marriage leanings have severed ties with Starbucks or Levis or other companies that have come out in support of gay marriage. Could it be because they are tolerant of others' beliefs and/or don't think you should make your purchasing decisions based on the social beliefs of some company's executive?

Which side is the intolerance on?

Basically my view. Who cares how much ammo they have, when there aren't enough people to fire it?

The bigots have lost. The younger generation doesn't care, and never will. And for ever subsequent generation, this will just be part of the new "normal" like woman voters and integrated schools. Our kids are going to look back and wonder how we were ever such backwards ass farks.

Next time I go to Subway, I'm going to ask the servers what their beliefs are. If they don't match up with mine, I'm walking out. But what if the one who cuts the roll and puts the meat on agrees with me but the topping person doesn't? Can I still get the sandwich but not get toppings? What if the company that makes the mayo agrees with me, can I still get mayo? And what if the person who checks me out doesn't agree? Do I just not get a drink?

And if I order a pizza, do I make the purchasing decision based on the beliefs of the guy who makes it or the beliefs of the guy who delivers it?

This being tolerant thing gets complicated.

Because money talks louder than words, and negative publicity is bad for business.

WanPhat: Which side is the intolerance on?

So we're supposed to tolerate the intolerant? Argument fail. Your personal beliefs are irrelevant, and I really don't care about them. The point I do, OTOH, is when you start using your personal beliefs to affect the lives of others who have done nothing wrong.

The one that isn't contributing to organizations that fight every day to strip rights away from citizens based upon their sexual orientation.

That's all you really needed. Difference is that ChickFilA made its stance quite public about how the correct definition of marriage is the biblical definition. Nobody is saying to screen everything you purchase, but if it concerns you enough or the company is vocal enough then you can act accordingly.

Through their WinShape Foundation, they've been a major supporter of Focus on the Family, which is an anti-gay hate group. As well as Eagle Forum, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family Research Council, Exodus International and the Marriage & Family Legacy Fund, all of which fight gay marriage or "the gay lifestyle" in general.
