There's no debate really. I don't own a car so I ride my bike everywhere. I don't do it because of the environment or because I'm a hippy or anything, I just can't afford auto insurance and I don't have a driver's license. I live in St. Petersburg, Florida which is not always an easy place to navigate (but a lot better than Tampa, damn!)

There is only one thing you need to know: Never trust anyone driving a car, and never expect them to stop for you, pay attention to you, or notice you. Stop for them. Always, no matter if you have the right-of-way. You may not like them and may want to yell at them for being ignorant of your divine rights as a biker, but you will lose this battle every time, so just shut up, stay on the sidewalk where you belong, and quit acting like drivers are ever going to treat you as an equal because "that's the law."

When you get on a busy roadway on a bicycle your only thought should be how to stay alive. Never think the guy behind you isn't methed out of his skull right now.

The "law" won't do you much good when they are scraping your brains off the roadway.

Might be coincidental at this point, but it seems like when I added the helmet cam, drivers actually started noticing that they were on camera and began behaving a little better.

And, runners. Stop wearing those little farking belts with 10 little water bottles in them for a 6 mile run. You look ridiculous when regular people are out there doing 10 miles just drinking out of the fountains on the trail.

Maybe those have electrolytes in them instead of just water?
This time of year though, I take two 24 oz handheld bottles on a 6 mile run and drink them both.

I see you live in Massachusetts. I also see that Massachusetts doesn't have a keep right law. That's god.

Here in Texas you have to stay right unless there's an obstruction or the lane is narrower than 14 feet. It's a stupid law. Most lanes are narrower than 14 feet.

May I ask what types you use? I have an older Oregon Scientific (I think) that's mounted on my handle bars, but it's too bulky to use as a helmet cam and the sound is only good when i'm stopped. I think I need to upgrade and get a rear facing cam too.

ContourROAM, all 3 of 'em. Sound isn't that great, mostly just road noise, but you can hear honking horns, skidding tires, yourself screaming profanity, that sort of thing.

I kind of think it would be cool to start up a business that makes cameras specifically for bikes, where they all connect to one battery/storage so it's not such a hassle to charge and download the videos.

When preparing for a left turn at an intersection or into a private road or driveway; or 3. When reasonably necessary to avoid conditions including, but not limited to, fixed or moving objects, parked or moving vehicles, bicycles, motorized pedal cycles, pedestrians, animals, surface hazards, or substandard width lanes that make it unsafe to continue along the right-hand curb or edge. For purposes of this subsection, a "substandard width lane" means a lane that is too narrow for a bicycle or motorized pedal cycle and a vehicle to travel safely side by side within the lane.
(b) Any person operating a bicycle or motorized pedal cycle upon a one-way highway with two or more marked traffic lanes may ride as near the left-hand curb or edge of such roadway as practicable.
