In my day, we saw movies about gangs like Colors and The Warriors with gang members in the audience. When fights broke out we cheered and made bets. After the film ended, we'd head back to our cars in a zigzag motion to avoid any potential gunfire.

Do us all a favor and stay in Ontario, OK?

The Abbreviation for Ontario is ON.

Movie theaters suck because of "antitrust" mandates. The government forced the disassociation of movie producers and theaters, and in the process destroyed a perfectly viable, working system.

Studios now cater to low-quality, high-hype blockbusters. That's why we get all the sequels, reboots and adaptations of other media -- they have a built-in market, and are thus more hype-friendly.

As a result, theaters have had to continually raise their prices. Most first-run movie revenue goes to the distributors, so the theaters are basically in the candy business now.

Who buys candy and has an endless appetite for mindless, over-produced sequels? Teens. Snowflake 20-somethings.

Theaters won't police the scumbag teens and 20-somethings, because that's who movies (and movie theaters) are primarily targeting now.

Adults who want to see a movie in peace are out of luck, unless they also enjoy listening to the Scumbag Steves, Lakeeshas and Rafaels of the world talk about their star-crossed ghetto love-life problems at full volume, and aren't bothered when one of them resorts to scrapping to settle their ghetto disagreements.

Flakeloaf: You're confusing "the people of Ontario" with "Rob Ford and Dalton McGuinty". Those are two pretty much mutually exclusive sets.

Sorry. All you Canadians look alike to me. With your flappy little heads, and beady little eyes, and your farting on each other, and your Newfoundland sodomy.

/Disclaimer: South Park is NOT a guide to how culture in Canada is.

I was waiting in line for the next DKR showing in the adjacent theater when this went down. The first guy out of the theater was running at full speed; he was going so fast he couldnt take the corner and wiped out into the cordon next to the ticket taker. Within seconds, he was on his feet and pressed against the wall by a cop that was asking firmly (but not over the top) what was going on. he said he didnt know.

Lots and lots of screaming followed shortly thereafter, plus a small flood of scared people coming out of the theater. Saw another cop enter the theater with his hand on his holstered weapon. We moved away from the theater and toward an emergency exit until it was clear that there was no immediate threat.

Only casualty was my wife's diet coke that got kicked over as we all moved quickly away. Theater gave us a new one for free.

If someone had been armed in that theater, they could have ended the fight very quickly and saved a lot of raisinets and junior mints from being left behind.
