All of the victims were acquaintances of Smith. The incidents allegedly occurred over the past two years.

Smith said there could be other victims.

So the victims were friends of the cop and the perp mentioned other victims? How bout some first names, journalist person.

I think a much bigger story is the FBI now wanting all people who get inked to be entered into a database, including type and location of tattoo. You know. Because of terrorists.

Sad to say I've not seen that come up on Fark this week.

pissnmoan: A permanent expression of a temporary feeling.

I got my first tattoo in 1996 and have never regretted it, nor have I regretted any of the others, with one exception: I got my ex-husband's initials on my ankle shortly after we got engaged. I very much love the bird that I got to cover them up, though. :)

I feel like I waited a long time before each one I got and they have never felt remotely "temporary" -- regardless of the significance (or lack thereof) of the art/design/words.

Some people get them done right, some people get bad ink on an impulse. I only kind of regret one. The artist that did it put a great piece on my back, so I had him do another on my shoulder. It's good, but it didn't come out as well as I had expected.

Let's see:

PHYSICALLY: The risk of getting a disease like Hepatitis from a tattoo artist that is not careful about sterilizing his/her equipment, the pain involved in getting one, the bleeding afterward

MENTALLY: Why would anyone think they need a tattoo to make themselves "better"? Also, if you get a tattoo because you think it's "cool" then you're applying the standards of the world.

SOCIALLY: People who have tattoos are often looked down upon as rednecks or low-lifes simply because they have tattoos, and people who have visible tattoos often get passed over for jobs by people who believe tattoos present an unprofessional appearance

SPIRITUALLY: Can't speak for any other religion, but there is a passage somewhere in the Bible (I believe it's in one of the New Testament letters written by Paul) that talks about branding your body and why it is of no benefit to followers of Christ

Dude, of all the reasons you could possibly have to not get a tattoo, this has to be the most absurd. The christian bible is a mix and match collection of short stories, taken from multiple religions and folk lore, highly edited and revised. Why would you view anything the bible has to say with any degree of seriousness?

That's why you go to a reputable artist. They sterilize and use new needles for all customers. They really don't hurt much. They also don't bleed much at all. Maybe a little while it is being done, and it is stopped before they wash it down and put on a bandage.

MENTALLY: Why would anyone think they need a tattoo to make themselves "better"? Also, if you get a tattoo because you think it's "cool" then you're applying the standards of the world.
What's wrong with "I like this and think it looks nice on me?" Seems to be what most people I know use as their reasoning. That's why I have all of mine.

SOCIALLY: People who have tattoos are often looked down upon as rednecks or low-lifes simply because they have tattoos, and people who have visible tattoos often get passed over for jobs by people who believe tattoos present an unprofessional appearance
I don't want to be around, or work for, people who have an issue with how I look, so it weeds out the idiots for me. I am ignoring the "spiritually" part, as that in no way applies to me or most people I know.

Really? You've never been into a shop, have you? Both places I went to used sealed needles. Both shops I've visited have been very clear about after care, provided initial care and have stocked antibiotic topicals for sale in the shop.

And yes, it bleeds and hurts. You're getting stabbed with needles. What would you expect?

I wanted both of my tattoos for years before I got them and I still like them a lot. The problem with tattoos is often the spontaneity involved with some, not the actual act of getting them. Though getting one on your genitals just seems like a bad idea in general. And face tattoos, I have a buddy who was drunk and got a clover leaf on his farking face....he regrets its as one would imagine

2012-07-22 02:18:52 PM

skinink: Let's see:

Screw it, I got two tattoos and a few minutes. I'll bite.

PHYSICALLY: Reputable tattoo parlors are easy to find and they're extremely paranoid about sterility and cleanliness. As for the pain and bleeding, I embraced it as part of the ritual.

MENTALLY: I got my tattoos to commemorate creative achievements, something I'll never regret. Bonus: I also got unique, tasteful art commissioned by friends.

SOCIALLY: See above. When tattoos don't have skulls, Chinese characters and ex-girlfriend's names people (including employers) tend to compliment a neat piece.

SPIRITUALLY: I'm not going to take religious criticism seriously from someone posting on Fark on a Sunday morning.

So yeah. There's your bite.
