Blue hair? In Arizona you're gonna get sued for age discrimination faster than Joe Arpaio can call a press conference.

I know the younger elementary school kids don't care what the hell you're wearing, and I know people think they're expressing their individuality.

But how farking hard is it to know that in a professional environment, you have to..you know... DRESS PROFESSIONALLY?

I'm just waiting for the flip flop ban outrage .

I'd like to live in a society where we can ban the banning of visible undergarments, visible cleavage, and bare midriffs. (Except for fatty uglies)

You had me until "visible cleavage", then i stopped paying attention.

Of course not... That foot wear is dangerously close to flip flops.

You're an adult working in a field that claims to be a profession?

Then dress like you're an adult working in profession.

Farking morans.

How one decides to style one's hair/clothes/body strikes me as a rather basic right, and unless it's clearly interfering with productivity employers should really go fark themselves about such things. Maybe it's just me, but I doubt kids are going to be deeply offended by Sally's blue hair. Indecent exposure might cause issues, but this code obviously goes well beyond that.

All state, county and city schools need to adopt uniforms and enforce it. Students would be much better off. We are one of the few backwards countries that don't require uniforms. Education is a direct reflection of self discipline and uni's are a great way of teaching that.

Dear fellow teachers, this is why we can't have nice things. It's best to accept highly professional dress codes and then continue to demand highly professional pay (commensurate with our 6 years of higher education). Personally, I'd rather have more money than having a "I wanna wear what I wanna wear" right.

Ban cleavage? I promise you I paid way more attention in Mrs. Austin's science class in grade seven than I did in Mr. Johnson's science class in grade eight. The tight lowcut blouses she liked to wear were a big part of why. Think of it as a bribe to young men at an age where they'd much rather be doing stupid crap like ATV jousting or reenacting Lord of the Flies. The only thing cool about Mr. Johnson was that he was a ginger with a porn 'tache, which was funny for about a week. Slept most of the rest of the year.

There's a big difference between people giving you funny looks and you not being allowed to wear something without getting canned. It's kind of pathetic if the adults are really that uncomfortable with blue hair when it doesn't interfere with the job at hand.

"District leaders created the policy because the organization didn't have a written policy and thought it was time to create one, said Shawn Watt, governing board president."

So in 2012 a company (the school district) with thousands of employees DIDN'T have a written dress code?

I work for a non-profit with 35 employees and we've had a written dress policy for probably 20 years. Only at school boards are there people uneducated enough to NOT have a written dress code in 2012.

On one hand, if you're in a position of authority, it's not hard to dress the part.

On the other hand, who gives a shiat about piercings and tats if they have no effect on your work performance whatsoever?

As long as they parade the fasces around so they know who is in charge.

You could do that by banning excessively large coffee mugs, or something.

Nuclear Panty Heist: There's a big difference between people giving you funny looks and you not being allowed to wear something without getting canned.

Tough shiat, part of employment means following rules. If you want to make yourself look like a super original non conformist it is your perogitive, but its going to limit your options in life. Your right to look like a freak doesn't somehow give you the privilege of not being treated like one.

It's kind of pathetic if the adults are really that uncomfortable with blue hair when it doesn't interfere with the job at hand.

It does intefere with a lot of jobs. In jobs where you have corporate customers you will be judged on the appearance of your office, right or wrong its better to instill professionalism because you can't control your customers judgments.

Teachers? Looking legitimate to annoying parents is part of their job.

If you want to pierce and tattoo the shiat out of your face and dye your hair a silly color, its your right and choice, but don't start crying when your job options are then limited to tattoo shop employee or barrista in williamsburg.

Ha, sure. If only they'd expand the budget and get those third graders more crayons. That'll restore the US as an economic powerhouse.
