Tyranicle: So what? Ban body armor? Like I said, a fully armed theater would knock him on his ass due to the kinetic energy from multiple bullets fired. The armed could then run up and give him a headshot.

You're right. I'd feel pretty comfortable in a theater with dozens of other armed folks knowing that if somebody started shooting I could pick out who was shooting at the good guys and who was shooting at the bad guys by psychic magic and that they'd extend the same courtesy to me. Or are you living in a GI Joe world where the bad guys all have red lasers and the good guys all have blue?

Maybe one armed person or two could get lucky but a "fully armed theater"? I can't imagine that'd be anything but a bloodbath even more tragic than the one that occurred. At least that one would feature the black humor of a bunch of testosterone overdosing Rambo reenactors plugging each other because they wanted to be the hero that stopped the bad guy.

What happens when the other people in the theater gets panicky over hearing gunshots? Humans do that you know,it's this weird thing called fight or flight. Wouldn't you think there would be some friendly fire casualties in that scenario? Also you don't aim for the farking head, you aim for center mass.

All this "walking arsenal" crap is just news-speak crappola.

Anyone can commit mass murder with a six-shot revolver.

The problem in this case wasn't guns or ammo, it's the 9/11-level news hype going along with this story.

Obama should not have spoken on TV about the shooting. Flags should not be at half mast. The nation should not be shaken.

We should just say nothing, or if we do, say it at about one percent of the energy it's being given now.

If we can stop feeding these trolls, maybe they'll stop trolling.

I agree 100% with you and I believe that if Aurora was a right to carry town we wouldn't be having a discussion about twelve innocent lives lost. Granted, not every spree shooter booby traps his apartment either. Nonetheless, if more citizens were given the right to carry, the less incidents like this will happen.

Well if it was a right to carry town and even one person had your mindset there would have been even more people dead because an idiot like you would have started shooting at the asshole in a dark, crowded, smoke filled theater with people while people were running panicked.

Colorado is a CCW state and is very pro-gun. The shooter was wearing full body armor, so shooting back at him wouldn't have done shiat.

Not all apartment buildings have supers, let alone on-site managers.

Plus this:
Super: Hey everyone get out! There's a bomb!
People: Right, Charlie. (roll over)

OR 100 hundred police cars and fire trucks, sirens blaring, lights flashing: (Loudspeaker) EVACUATE THE BUILDING. THERE IS A BOMB.

CraicBaby: DON.MAC: It could be one of the many things related to the same processes that cause schizophrenia to kick in. With some sort of bipolar related issues, the adrenalin rush may have kicked him around to a different personality which wasn't a homicidal maniac. This guy was about the same age as Breivik when he started his plan but he took far longer to execute his. Are we looking at two cases of psychopathic schizophrenia? There is also the case that someone who knows a bit about neurology might notice they have some issues and incorrectly self diagnose or become too paranoid to seek treatment or actively block it.

Yeah, could be the reason he dropped out of his PhD program. He was pursuing a doctorate in neuroscience, so he obviously knew quite a bit about neurology. Maybe he recognized that he had some serious issues, so he got scared and dropped out.

He dropped out last month, he was planning this for atleast the last four months. I doubt he dropped out due to that. More likely he did not want any distractions.

Except he was wearing a bullet proof vest and had set off tear gas bombs. Anyone with a gun would have likely shot someone else and or prolonged this shooting. Arming the population will not lessen incidents like this, it will only make the situation worse.

This was odd. Maybe he got antsy to find out if phase 2 went through? He attacked at about the same time he set the music to go off. There was a report that he got a call and then went outside. This could have been an alarm set on his phone.

Well, if it turns out he has schizophrenia, his lawyer could make a case for an insanity plea. He's at the right age where it starts to pop up. However, schizophrenics tend to be disorganized, and he has clearly shown he is pretty organized as far as his planning. He may simply be an evil farkhead like the guy who shot up Virginia Tech. I'm sure his lawyer will still go for an insanity plea, but those almost never work. Just because someone is mentally ill, doesn't necessarily mean they fit the legal definition of insanity. He will undoubtedly undergo a myriad of psych evaluations leading up to the eventual trial, fir to see if he is fit to stand trial, and then likely to see if he fits the legal definition of insanity.

Do you think he just wanted to be famous for being infamous( and hated) just like Jared Loughner. Take a look at the current police photo of Holmes and you see the same batshiat crazy grin. Even through tear gas and smoke bombs? One of the first things you learn about gun safety is that you don't shoot if you can't clearly see your target. And I didn't say anything about banning anything.

And the kinetic energy wouldn't have knocked him down and out. Watch the video of the North Hollywood Shootout. Those guys were hit multiple times by the LAPD, and you can see the hits on video that don't even phase those guys.

I'm all for concealed carry and guns, but I don't think it would have made much of a difference here. You've got a surprise attack in a dark room with a movie playing though tear gas. It's possible someone with a weapon and some training might have managed to get a few shots off and changed the dynamic of what happened that night, but I have my doubts.

Well if he wanted that why did he tell the cops that his place was rigged? My guess is that after what he did at the movie he got hit with a heavy dose of remorse and didn't want anybody else to die. So if there was a chance his place wasn't already on fire he didn't want to send anybody else to their death.

Thinking about and planning to kill is easy, but actually going through with it and living with it is hard.

Musto: Most reports state that the music was set on a timer so that it shut off at 1:00, just about the same time as he started shooting. The lady went back to bed after the music went off and was asleep when police evacuated the building. This guy seems to have planned for everything so to me this sounds like he had the timer to trigger the explosives if no one opened the door by 1:00, and that failed. I agree, once he was under arrest he was expecting his apartment to be destroyed or at least an inferno.

TFA says she phoned in a complaint and they said they'd try to get an officer out there. No one showed up, so she phoned again a bit before 1am and they said they were in an emergency situation (the shooting) and couldn't send anyone out. So, he was shooting before the timer went off. I'm thinking he was hoping the cops would show up, trigger the explosives, and then be distracted while he was shooting. Though, nbothing explains why he just stopped shooting. Though, apparently, he tried to get into the theater 8 via the emergency exit after a couple girls ran in to escape, but a dude had the prescence of mind to block the door after the girls got in.

There is some truth in this.

Want to buy a 50 pound bag of ammonium nitrate to fertilize your garden? Show some ID and sign your name on the dotted line because you just might be the next Timothy McVeigh.

Want to withdraw $10,000 or more from your bank account one day? Sure, go ahead, but your bank will report it to the government under the Bank Secrecy Act because you just might be in the Mafia or an Al Queda supporter.

Not to mention all of the TSA checks to buy a ticket and get on a plane.
