The article was poorly written. It actually does reference the assumed pepper spray earlier in the article. If I worked there, I would have gone all ITG on his ass and laughed at the pepper spray.

There is no law that a patient needs to take pain killers like these just because your doctor wants to prescribe them. You are allowed to "talk" to the doctor and indicate your reluctance and to request alternatives. You get hooked on these things, it is just as much your fault as the doctor's. It's called a doctor-patient "relationship" for a reason.

Exactly.

I thought the new, harder to shoot or snort oxys were a good idea, however, until recently - oxy abuse down, heroin up with new formula - maybe the answer is to just let the addicts have it so they don't resort to crime.

Jesus christ competent doctors monitor their patients who are on narcotics anyways. My mom gets hydrocodone and her doctor drug tests her,has her see a psych guy every month and when he writes her prescriptions out he doesn't write refills on any of her meds that are narcotic. Her doctor also regularly checks the KASPER system to see when she gets her meds filled,it's also how he catches people doctor shopping. I really think the pain clinics are the sources of these stupid ass problems cause with the people I've known to go to them all you need is a clean piss test and woooo you get oxy. Lol my mom's doctor won't even prescribe anything oxycodone if it's higher than 10mgs and the first time you piss dirty or don't have your meds in your system you're no longer welcome in their office.

You are forgetting a majority of patients will implicitly trust what the doctor will tell them because after all HE'S A FARKING DOCTOR.

I'm not saying getting hooked is completely the doc's fault. But does he have complicity? You better believe it.

There were two pain doctors in Jersey who just got into a huge amount of trouble - one was just dumping oxys and other stuff into people's hands with literally advice to "take two and call me in the morning" and the other one was doing SPINAL SURGERY that he wasn't qualified for.

Some people, when they run out of smack, just shrug their shoulders and go find something else to play with, others get obsessed about it, I wonder why?

I do know that doing painkillers when one is actually in pain is supposed to minimize the addiction potential. Myself, I'm 52 and have never been sick or in an accident, touch wood, so I wouldn't know.

That's so true. All those rich junkies out there with millions of dollars and all sorts of great insurance, just lining those doctors pockets as they spend, spend, spend on pharmaceuticals. I guess the junkies just have to steal whatever they get in order to keep up with appearances, and then send the doctors a check afterwards. It's a brilliant little scheme, really.

Haha saddest shiat I've ever seen was this strung out looking guy going door to door trying to sell a beat up vacuum cleaner or maybe the people who stole my neighbors ferns. It's not safe to leave anything of value outside around here, nor is it safe to appear intoxicated outside if they think you have money,it's not safe to be openly seen carrying bags from pharmacies unless you want random people showing up at your apartment asking for pills though the only things you picked up from the pharmacy were seizure meds and blood pressure meds and it's sure as fark not okay to leave your doors unlocked if you have a reputation of openly dealing cause they'll rob you and damn near beat you to death. This neighborhood is farked and it's mainly due to meth and oxycodone.

I had no idea they could check that. Which is probably why my one doctor keeps prescribing me and is willing to try a variety of things for my insomnia...when I say it didn't work and I didn't even fill the next script she knows I'm not lying. Wow.

My medicine cabinet is a graveyard of pills (that didn't work out for me) that would make a druggie swoon.....

Depends on the state. Ky has the KASPER system because of the rampant pill abuse and because of what they were calling the Florida pipeline,ie people from KY going to FL to visit multiple pain clinics so they could bring the oxy back here to sell or use.

I've been taking Vicodin for several years now. My doctor writes a new Rx every 90 days. I have to have blood tests every 6 months. About 4 months ago, his nurse called and told me I had to come in with my Rx. She counted the tablets left to make sure I didn't have more/less than my last refill. I thought that was a little over the top, but my doc flat said - you don't like the way I do it, find another pain management doctor. A good doctor really doesn't screw around with this stuff nowadays.

I don't blame them really. You have a pill that makes people feel good, is it really a surprise that people would go to great lengths to get their hands on it? I blame the DEA and the drug war. Why not make it legal without a prescription? Opiates can't be that much worse than alcohol or cigarettes. People can decide for themselves what they want to do with their bodies.

The doctor's office my mom goes to does this also but only if they highly suspect you're selling them but they make you bring in all your meds in anyways to every appointment. They have that printed out on a sign at the desk you sign in at. All of that is why I trust them so much,it's because they're not a pill mill and they will kick out patients for having the wrong counts, the wrong meds in their system or if the patients have drug seeking behavior. The doctors around here aren't farking stupid.

Goddammit that is stupidest and most inefficient route of administration ever for opioids, excluding heroin but it's an opiate so whatever. If they wanted a buzz that goddamn quickly they could just plug the bastards but no those are the same kind of idiots that would probably snort pain pills containing apap.

In other news I walked to my local Family Dollar to buy a box of generic Coricidin. The manager and the cashier can see me the entire time. So I pick up a box of them and walk to the register to tell them my birthdate, because the dumbass teenagers figured out that dxm can get you high, and to pay for them. The manager notices that one end of the box is bent in. Someone had stolen the pills out of the box and put the box back on the shelf. It blew my farking mind cause the farking things are only $2 a box. So I go pick up another box, making sure to shake it this to check, while the other cashier goes to check the entire cold section for empty boxes. It pisses me off because now they'll probably put them behind that damn glass cabinet that locks because some asshole didn't want to pay $2.12 to get high. Gaaah these farking people here.
