Yeah I love the careful selection of data. Lets see- what happened between 2007 and 2009 that might have had a greater impact on the rich's share of wealth? Anyone?

I've always wondered about that. Is there something in the ad contract that stipulates their ad content has to be the first to load? Why would a content provider care if the ad gets seen or not, so long as they get their pageview?

Never attribute to contractual requirements that which is adequately explained by employee incompetence.

I saw Jon Stewart making a big deal about Romney's tax returns.

Let's see Jon Stewart's tax returns. He is supposedly worth $80M and makes $15M a year. What does he do with all of that in supertaxed NYC, where they have taxes on their taxes?

It's also funny to see a Jew whine about greedy bankers. Unintentional comedy, indeed. Who takes care of your money, Jon? A box in a closet at home?

When the bottom 99% have far less money to sponsor tax cuts for the top 1%, the bottom 99% then have no money to buy the goods produced by said top 1%.

Now that no one is buying said goods from top 1% they end up losing lots of money. It what happens when you destroy the middle class who are your main customer base.

You can see his tax returns when he runs for President. The problem with Romney isn't that he made the money. The problem is he's very shady about it.

/Really, really wants Jon Stewart and Colbert to run for president.

I don't know if they'd work out as politicians. Colbert can't always keep a straight face while being insincere.

After tax income, which means dollars they're being paid, not options, personal use of the company jet, etc. They're not hiding it, just changing executive pay to make incomes smaller for tax purposes

Maybe they've taken everything from the rest of us and there's nothing left to take.

All the jobs have gone to Wal-Mart and McDonald's.

Thanks to the recession, all jobs now pay about minimum wage.

The banks own every house that hasn't been paid for.

America has been bled dry. Hopefully the parasites will starve now that the host is almost dead.

Although I would vote for them at least as many times as the law allows, either/both of them would be the first to admit that they're not cut out for the horrible soul-reaming realities of higher public office.

/Not sure I'd wish that on anyone that I liked, really.

And once again, it's not about how rich the rich are or how poor the poor are, it's the DISCREPANCY between rich and poor. Wealth is a relative metric; your wealth only means something when compared to someone elses wealth. The gap between rich and poor is what matters, not the absolute values of each.

If the rich are getting less rich, that's bad. It means everyone else is getting more poorer, and faster.

So what? We're expected to believe that if you fire all the people who buy the stuff your corporations make that this will somehow magically make us poorer? What complete and utter bullshirt. What we need are more tax cuts for the rich.

2012-07-21 08:01:05 PM
Let me see if I get this argument.

During the stock market crash (and associated mayhem), three to four years ago, in 2007-2009, the richest 1% lost money and so when pundits and governments tell us that the rich are now back to Gilded Age levels of wealth (now) they're talking BS?

But I know what some of you are going to say, the rich made all that money back when the prices of stocks and such rebounded. Yes, yes they did. With bells on. And they also started to spend freely on luxury goods and services again shortly thereafter.

But the author of the article admits all of that any way. So I forget what the point was. Maybe it was that the thatch does not match the snatch. Yeah, that must be it.

I don't know. Seems rather pointless to tell people that the rich aren't really getting richer absolutely and relatively and then to use data from three years ago and to acknowledge that that has all changed now, and that really they have resumed getting richer with barely a blip in their on paper wealth and their high-spending, high-flying lifestyles.
