Movie giant AMC Theatres says it won't be allowing people to wear costumes, face-covering masks or fake weapons into its theaters after the Colorado theater massacre.

Why would I want to bring a fake weapon?

Random act of violence by a mental patient seems to always cause immediate knee-jerk idiocy from big companies.

Thank god. I was petrified of being hit with real magic spells at the last Harry Potter movie.

2012-07-21 01:18:09 PM
I wonder if AMC did any ligament damage after jerking their knees that much.

2012-07-21 01:18:40 PM
I think we need some kind of organization, like a Theater Security Administration, to check everyone and their shoes before they are allowed into a movie theater.

...Damn it, I demand to have someone in a uniform rape me with their finger before I go to see the latest Rob Schneider film! At least that way, I'll get some enjoyment out of the day!

2012-07-21 01:31:19 PM
I knew this would happen, it was just a question of which theater would move first. -_-

Obviously you've never seen people waiting in line for Star Wars movies. Light sabers everywhere. WHAT IF THEY WERE REAL??? AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

2012-07-21 01:59:13 PM
Yeah, that will help. Help what though I have no idea.

Yeah, so the guy left the theater, propping open the un-alarmed "emergency" exit, went to his car and got his gear and returned. This move is solving for what, exactly?

2012-07-21 02:22:07 PM
Which would have stopped the guy who bought a ticket and entered without a costume or any real or fake weapons... went outside through the emergency door, put on battle gear, and brought in 4 guns and started firing on everyone.

Fake weapons? But real ones are still okay?!

I mean how the hell would we stop violence if we can't bring REAL weapons?! It's just farking stupid....stupid libs.

I would suggest instead that maybe there should be some kind of law passed that makes it illegal to kill people (we'll call it "murder").

2012-07-21 03:28:33 PM
People dressing up as their favorite characters and bringing fake weapons in is totally what caused this tragedy.

Anytime there's violence or weaponry during TDKR, we cut to THIS.

AMC? Didn't they quit making cars 25+ years ago? Why would they care about Madagascar or go full Madagascar?

so fake weapons are banned, but do you honestly think that any ban will prevent a motivated person bent on creating real fake harm from bringing a fake weapon in?

No, and you're an idiot to think otherwise.

Now we've got a pretend maniac in a theater full of law-abiding patrons who are sitting ducks. A few people in there with proper fake weapons training could prevent anything from happening, but AMC's overreaction is now setting them up for disaster. Thanks a lot, Obama.

Some people might call it "Covering Our Asses", you know with all the lawyers and such circling overhead and all.

Definitely thought the headline meant they replaced all showings of Batman with Madagascar.

FTFY.

The lawsuits from Friday's attacks will cost them millions. Were it to happen again without them banning the costumes, you can at least triple that amount.

2012-07-21 03:34:55 PM
I don't mind the weapons.

But can AMC ban cellphones? How about throwing out people who talk?

That's why I don't go to the movies.

I don't give a fark if someone is packing heat as long as he isn't texting someone.

Reminds me of my hometown High School. After Columbine, they felt like they had to do something. After much thought, they finally hit upon the solution.

Ban trenchcoats.

I'm familiar with the concept of CYA, but how in the fark is a policy like this going to save them from any kind of lawsuit? What kind of scenario are we imagining here?

WorldCitizen: Yeah, that will help. Help what though I have no idea.

It'll help them tell their insurance agency that they took full and reasonable steps to prevent a repeat. It's something that they CAN do something about: you can't effectively screen for crazy people likely to shoot the place up, but they can keep people with fake guns out. It's stupid, but I can see where the stupid came from.

We're just going to have to cosplay as commissioner Gordon this time out.

Kevin, did you go to school in ohio? I had a friend who wore a trenchcoat for years, and they made him stop wearing it right after columbine.

Anything to make it less fun to go to a movie and encourage people to stay home. Looks like they'll have to raise concession prices to make up for the short fall.

Well, so long, AMC. I'm an avid cosplayer & have Star Trek, Harry Potter, Marvel, DC, and Star Wars costumes. I'll go attention-whore outside at Theatres and spend my money there.

/Would have worn my Batgirl costume last night but didn't feel like getting hassled or thrown out
//Figured this directive from AMC wasn't too far behind.

We are right here where Columbine happened, and they came up with an even better one if you recall;
Ban trenchcoats -AND- Marilyn Manson.
Which the kids who did Columbine didn't listen to or apparently even like.

/Administrators and coaches passively watching and covering for bullying approaching felony assault went on as usual, however.

The same company that sold out to a Chinese firm and put its flagship theater in its home town up for sale to a company from Texas.
