Even though china doesn't have social security; the party(read the government) is expected to provide at least somewhat for retirees. That has always been communism's main attraction / downfall; everyone gets an equal amount of everything. China has become increasingly capitalistic; but at the core, China is a communist country.

Nope; it was only intended to control and reduce the growth of the population if I remember correctly. But; the decrease I'm talking about could easily cut the Chinese population by a 1/3 or more. Here in the states; that would create an artificial "boomer" generation. What I mean by that is; the older generation would seriously outnumber the younger generation. Thus; to abbreviate the situation; the number of retirees would overburden the system.

except there has never not been stratification there. Now, 5 years ago, 10 years ago, 20 years ago, 50 years ago, 60 years ago....stratification. Meaning, not equal amounts.

And except that "provide at least somewhat" is not the same as "comfortable retirement after 20 years in an industry." I know several people pulling two retirements, and who are are still fit, active, and in their low 60s (ie, who would have to still be working, were they in China). Not just one retirement...two.

There is a stark difference between tossing people into some cheap housing until they die, and giving them enough to run around playing golf for 30 years.

first off, is a that big drop in population coming in china even a bad thing? maybe they can tweak their laws or tax boys or something to balance it out? I'm not saying laws like in china are the answer, just a bummer stupid people make so many babies and there's no easy way to solve the problem I guess. Should we really let a person pop out 14 babies? Do we as humans have the right to keep expanding our numbers at the expense of all other life on earth including our future selves? As the poorer countries become wealthier there is always a corresponding drop in the birth rates. The answer to overpopulation isn't draconian 1 child policies but helping 3rd world nations get their shiat together. Most rich countries actually have to have immigrants just maintain their current population levels so we don't need to legislate anything in regards to population controls. We as 1st world countries just need to stop exploiting other countries and they need to get their acts together.

But as we advance technology, we don't need the labor force we once did to get the same or more done, so maybe the smaller younger generation could care for themselves and the larger elder population fairly well in the transition.
