Just a question for those that are pissed at the idea of a patch advertising some company being added to the jersey. Why? Will it change the game in anyway? Will it interfere with anything?

/serious questions, not trying to be snarky. I just don't get the uproar

They started doing this in the CFL several years ago. Two small patches are on the chest. At this point I don't notice them anymore.

Give 'em a break! The players and owners are barely scraping by!

This increased revenue is sure to be reflected in lower ticket prices for all.

Will paid jersey advertising negate the "TV Timeout"? Doubtful.

WWE could beat them to the punch and sell advertising on the wrestlers' trunks.

Subby obviously has never been to Europe.

Or...maybe he has and he's bitter.

Either way, don't care, will make for funnies if companies get into trouble like AIG.

European sports have very few commercial breaks.

And in other news, according to the link on the left, the NBA has overturned a one game suspension on Suns forward Charles Barkley.

What a weird "related news" catch by their software.

The ads as seen on the CFL jerseys. You barely even notice them. The ad spots on jerseys are a non-issue.

Also, nobody seems to have a problem with this:

Considering that Wade was not suspended for his hit on Collison, I doubt this will actually help.

Also, where are the fines/suspensions for floppers?

Are you kidding me? The Big 4 have been waiting for one another to take the plunge on this for years. The NBA will take the heat on this as sports writers run for their fainting couches, but I guarantee the NFL, NHL, and MLB will follow suit within 5 years. The only question is which league will be the last one to do it. Tempting to say baseball, but remember Selig is a former owner.

The reason why no one has a problem with ads on soccer jerseys is because soccer consists of uninterrupted 90 minutes of play which leaves no room for TV commercials.

That is also the single biggest reason why soccer will never be "big" in the states. Can't have TV commercials during the games. *sniff sniff*

Possibly, oh well gotta run to RONA for some paint and then talk to a Primus representative in an hour.

a downside sure, but the upside is it's still not the MLB and thusly infinitely more watchable

I heard David Stern totally own Colin Cowherd and Jim Rome in two different interviews this year. That guy is steady and sharp.

It was a pleasure hearing Cowherd and Rome both get knocked off their game and stammer around.

Let;s see, what looks better on my Samsung HD? Majestic Baseball parks, or the same dimension basketball court over and over?

I like the NBA but MLB is awesome. So much more to the game. With the NBA it's pretty much just running back and forth and shoving a ball through a hoop, and little defense.

You know how I know you don't watch or understand basketball? What an ignorant comment.

As for the jersey ads, the NBA better not expect me to buy a jersey with a McDonalds or Bank of America logo, it's so tacky. People can point to how soccer has big ads on their jerseys, but I still think it's tacky plus they have an excuse since they barely have commercials.

People that think there's a ton of strategy behind baseball and less in other sports tend to be the dumbest people alive. Oh, pitch away from the guys that suck at hitting pitches away? Put in your best players? Take guys out when they're roughly 7 innings/100 pitches in unless they're going for a no-hitter or perfect game? Man, it's just so complicated!

IAmRight: People that think there's a ton of strategy behind baseball and less in other sports tend to be the dumbest people alive.

I could see someone make the argument for football (American or Canadian), but baseball? The catcher/pitcher interaction and the catcher's knowledge of opposing batters takes the most strategic and planning skills, but that's just one or two guys.

Exactly - there are tons of coaches in basketball and football and days off in between. Just because baseball is slow doesn't mean there's a whole lot of thinking going on between pitches. And given how easy it is to determine probabilities, strengths and weaknesses with the data available? C'mon.

Azz: That is also the single biggest reason why soccer will never be "big" in the states. Can't have TV commercials during the games. *sniff sniff*

Either you think people want commercials or don't understand that the consumer makes things 'big'.

Soccer won't be big because we don't really like the sport.

I wouldn't care about jersey ads if it meant less commercials. Now we'll have ugly unis like Europe and long boring ass sports like the US

2012-07-21 10:07:06 PM
Jersey ads huh? Guess I'm not watching the NBA anymore or purchasing any of their merchandise or tickets. Bye assholes.

I love baseball. It is my favorite sport. But a guy can play for one team one day and a new team the next. It is far from the most complex, in my opinion.

Well, I appreciate that you can enjoy it without needing to pretend it's something others "don't get." That puts you above pretty much all other baseball fans (and a lot of soccer fans, who also assume that anyone that doesn't like their sport just "doesn't get it.")
