A user on social news site Reddit wants to start a Facebook campaign to have Christian Bale dress up in a Batman outfit and visit kids injured in the shooting.

That's a great idea. I'm sure having a guy in black body armor burst through the door to your hospital room will give them a thrill.

Despite his injury, the football player was eager to go for a morning workout.

Now if that ain't just the most gad damn heroic thing I've ever heard.

well, if Hellboy can visit a kid dying of cancer, then Batman can go visit kids who got shot.

What about Adam West dressing up in his Bat-costume one more time? Its not like Christian Bale is the only Batman out there.

This kid: "I got shot in the farking neck but i'm not going to cower in fear and let it change my life"

Most of America: "shiat, some muslims attacked us, and killed fewer people than die on our roads every year, let's give up all our rights and go invade some random countries full of brown people"

He might not be the world's greatest hero, but I really wish more of your country had his attitude

I'm tired of watching reporters and newsmen furiously beat off to the idea of covering a mass-killing 24-hours a day.

Diane, we're on the scene here with the guy that served him breakfast eight days ago!!! Sir, Sir!! What did he have on his eggs? Did he mention he wanted to kill a lot of people? Did he make a frowny face or a happy face with his bacon and eggs?? He made no face at all? So would it be safe to say he viewed the world as faceless victims waiting for him to savagely tear it to pieces with the same regard an Asian has for their turn-signals?

Oh, Hi! You're a random guy on the street, did you know the murdered? No? Oh... well, can you answer me hypothetically, like you knew the killer intimately? Great! So, when you witnessed him masturbating to the 9/11 videos of planes crashing into the buildings, did you think that was odd? If we restricted full-access to those videos, don't you think this tragedy could have been averted ?

Well, Diane, the twists and turns of this story are truly shocking. We've now learned how he taunted his victims and viewed them as faceless piles of meat to be devoured by his uzi-machine-gun glock and he was a sexual deviant with a terror-murder fetish. We'll be keeping you up to date on the latest as it occurs, LIVE! I'm Chris Jansing reporting live from Old C*nt Gossip, in the foothills of Colorado. Back to you Diane.

Methinks you have summed it up nicely

It's f*cking ridiculous. For the next week I won't even go near a cable news station. I have some books to read and work to wrap up that I've been phoning in for months.

I don't think a massacre should be turned into a gossipy, reality TV show where they sit on the sidewalk staring at a building asking random people to tell their random stories in bad English... and half the time the people were only tangentially involved.

It's f*cking sick and it disturbs me to watch those sick f*cks give phony heartfelt statements about the dead and their reverence for them while they chug water, eat oysters and lube up so they can return to their stroke-fest when the coroner wheels out the bodies.

I can't stand news channels for anything because of this (except CSPAN).

Boyfriend was talking about how I seem so certain that Romney doesn't have a chance in hell, and how none of the tv news networks seem to agree. I gave him the spiel about how they have to fill time and try to keep people hooked enough to watch. Not sure he believed me fully.

Human beings tend to transmute normal everyday actions in "heroic" actions following a tragedy, as it makes us feel better.

Also, a natural media phenomenon to sell newspapers and generate airtime.

Lt. 'Doc':
That's mostly what makes physical heroism. Opportunity. It's a reflex. I think that seventy-five out of a hundred young males have that reflex. You take any one of them. Say even Frank Thurlowe Pulver, here. Put him into a B-29 over Japan, and you know what you'd have?

Doug Roberts:
No I don't, Doctor.

Lt. 'Doc':
You'd have Pulver, the Congressional Medal of Honor winner. Pulver, who single-handed shot down twenty-three attacking Zeros. Pulver who, with his bare hands, held together the severed wing struts of his plane, and with his bare feet successfully landed his mortally wounded plane on his home field. Reflex. It's like the knee jerk. Strike the patella tendon in any human being, you produce the knee jerk. Look.

(Doc hits Pulver in the knee and nothing happens)

Ensign Pulver:
What's the matter, Doc?

Lt. 'Doc':
Nothing, but stay out of B-29s, Frank, my boy.

Before I started training and educating myself in self defense and matters concerning firearms, I learned an extremely valuable lesson.

I've never saw active duty in the military, I've never been suited up expecting a firefight. But I've been in a couple of them. Neither time was I a participant, but both times I was in the crossfire. Both times, the firefight erupted suddenly and unexpectedly.

It's one thing, my experience tells me, to act when you're ready for something to happen. Working as a legal investigator, especially when you specialize in finding and dealing with people that the supposed "professionals" are too afraid to deal with, you make a point to be primed for anything to happen at any time. Surprises don't really catch you flat footed in that mental state. They startle you, sure, but you're already thinking about what you would do if such a thing happens and you act.

But this situation is different. It's comfortable, it's familiar. You're with friends and family, you're zoning out and immersing yourself in another world. Just like a block party in your childhood (gunfight #1). At the very least, even when you're making effort to be aware, it is still a situation in which you're at a relaxed state, as if working a routine (gunfight #2).

All of a sudden, hairs on the back of your neck are raising and something seems amiss. It's hard to put a finger on exactly what's going on or what's about to happen, BAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAMBAM.

Know what your head is doing? What's going through your mind? Let's put it this way, it would make a drunken sailor with Tourette's Syndrome blush.

Acting at all, and being coherent enough to be compassionate for others and act to secure their safety in a situation where it is quite obvious that danger is imminent and deadly and you have no idea where it is coming from, is not just heroism. It's brass balls. It's bad ass. It's what I undertook thousands of hours of education, training, and practice to overcome my inability to do.

Hats off to everyone who acted, anything that didn't involve sitting there dumbfounded. Trust me, even that took some balls.
