I can see her being an indirect security threat. Picture it: you are a young, badly conflicted Muslim lad, living in a poor, wretched nation. you have fallen in with a bad crowd, and are being groomed by your associates - but you have qualms. You think: "They say i must kill Americans. But the Quran says that Allah is the word of peace, and compels me to love and honor my fellow man, and protect the innocent - so how can I kill innocent Americans in pursuit of my faith?"
Then you turn on your TV, and see Michelle Bachman.
And you think: "Right, then!"

Bachmann's district is so solid, that any donations to her are a waste of money. IFshe tried to build a war chest to run for governor or senator, the state would reject her so hard that Marcus' ass would hurt.

She has so much negative press from all the crazy shiat she's said that she would have to move to a red state to have a shot at any higher office.

So the more money to her, the better.

I'm never joking when I say the GOP is the greatest threat to America today. They prove it time and time again, whether engaging in a trumped up war with no way to pay for it, shipping jobs overseas to decimate the American middle class and rebuild a cheaper version of it in Asia, or dismantling our educational system to replace it with faith based indoctrination.

The GOP is the greatest threat to America today, period.

That is the part that baffles me too. From my foreigner's understanding of it none of the derpers of any creed can just write and pass a law that says X religion's law are now the law of the land as that would be tantamount to a state sponsored religion, verboten by the first amendment.
To amend the constitution requires 2/3 of both federal houses to pass the proposal, then it requires the approval of both houses of 3/4 of all the states, then it can become an amendment. At that point it would pretty much have to be the will of the people, could you get that many people currently to sign a statement saying that golf is fun?

This lady that I saw in the store the other day was defending her. She said that she doesn't care if there is proof or not, we need to bring every Muslim in for hearings about their ties to the Muslim Brotherhood. She said she doesn't care if it was violating civil rights or discriminatory because we have to do everything we can to keep Sharia Law from taking over in the U.S.

So when you see people defending Bachmann over this, this is the mindset that you are dealing with. You can't reason with that.

OK. I have something to confess. I am poor, but I have enough $$$ to contribute to politicians, because they are so cheap.

Anyways, here is my confession: I donated to Michele Bachmann's presidential campaign. I donated early and repeatedly. As a result, my comments to her would find their way into her publicity campaigns, word for word, despite my being a staunch liberal. Apparently, she did not hire the best editors. Or, she is mentally retarded.

I have a theory that the GOP knows Romney is a lost cause for president... so their real strategy is to make it SO obviously leading up to November that Obama is a shoo-in that dems will be overconfident and stay home, allowing the GOP to win the Senate.

I think picking Bachmann as the VP would solidify that strategy.

The only way to reason with them is to have them experience the same treatment they demand others go through. She doesn't care about how the end result is achieved because it doesnt directly concern her or her stances. If this was applied to her religion, she would be protesting everywhere to stop it because now it hinders her.

The only way to reason with them is to have them go through the annoyances personally as all they care about is themselves.

It's not just that, I don't think; we as humans love our tribalism - we're hardwired for it, all of us - but I've noticed that there are a lot of people who don't want their tribe to to be very big. Name almost any movement and you'll find a handful of people who remember a time when that movement was small and intimate and they had it all to themselves, as opposed to loud and widespread: "I liked them before they were famous." Anything that hits the mainstream can lose its shine for the first people to get inspired by it - you can see the pattern in everything from third-wave feminism to Doctor Who conventions.

Bachmann's version of movement conservatism is based in part on the idea of American aristocracy. She wants her movement to remain small and concentrated so that she has power within it. The fact that she went national with it means that she's one of those twits who sees herself as one of the elite - she's setting herself up as a "dispenser," a manufacturer and distributor of leadership. I think that's the reason behind the whole crazy-eyes thing - she wants to sit on top of America with her tiny little movement of select God's-Chosen people and show all those poor misguided souls where we went wrong.

This may explain why she has to keep getting crazier, too. If she adds people to her movement, she has to go far enough to the right to keep her group of Select the same size so she can continue to be special. Like the twerp who likes the rock band, she can't believe she's surrounded by such fools and philistines, but if enough fools and philistines like the band to make it mainstream, she'll drop 'em like a hot rock and go looking for something even farther outside the mainstream. That's why she's going full McCarthy - it keeps enough people hating her that she doesn't have to worry about going mainstream. It's an act of desperation.

If I were able to stomach the evil of that site, I would be tempted to do an experiment:

Make two profiles (One whose name is simpyl the other backwards. Like, say, Backwards and Sdrarwkcab or something.)

One responds as a slightly lukewarm conservative to postsl ike that "Oh come on, children have to be allowed to make mistakes, don't flip out. I'm sure she'll come around."

And one who says stuff like is 'Well, you'd better kill her boyfriend and try to frame a liberal neighbor!"

I have to wonder which would get banned first.

/No, I don't, I already know.

I hate to say this seeing as I'm liberal, but this is the price we pay for saying we should respect everyone's opinions/ideas. I think it's an important rule in some situations (like small work groups or school), but it seems to just backfire on us in politics. When your opinions revolve around hate, paranoia, and discrimination, they don't deserve equal respect and they certainly don't deserve a place in politics.

I don't see why we have to allow people who show their true colors like this to keep their jobs. When you come out and say that you are looking to alienate, discriminate against, and harass people because you don't like their religion or face it should be grounds for the American people to fire you.

Of course I can only imagine the backlash and shiatstorm that would occur if some politician came out and said the same thing about Christians. I disagree with their religious beliefs, I guess that gives me the right to interrogate them and treat them as terrorists right? Because you never know what sort of associations they might have or what crazy thing they might do.

Yeah, it's sad. She'll probably retain her seat this November, just because the conservatives in their district won't dare vote for anyone with a (D) next to their name. This series of debacles should've been the end of her. Bachmann will be that turd that just won't flush.

phillyguy1547: I have a theory that the GOP knows Romney is a lost cause for president... so their real strategy is to make it SO obviously leading up to November that Obama is a shoo-in that dems will be overconfident and stay home, allowing the GOP to win the Senate.

I think picking Bachmann as the VP would solidify that strategy.

I think between the teabagger invasion of 2010, and another crop of candidates that may be better suited for a straight jacket than public office, the left and moderates will get out and vote. The idea of someone like Bachmann in the WH, who is mentally ill (y'all know it's true), is scary as hell.

Superjew: OK, serious question: how insane does a person have to be before they are removed from office?

And by "removed", I don't mean voted out, I mean snatch the half-eaten baby from their arms as the restraints go on.

check out allen west from florida. the guy who has a security clearance higher than Obama.

that got him a "pants on fire" rating but even still he got elected.

Serious Black: I know people joke that the modern GOP is the greatest threat America has ever faced, but I say this with absolutely no hyperbole: people like Michele Bachmann really are the greatest threat America has ever faced.

Joke?

probably worth mentioning the reason she actually does this shiat - it increases national donations to her derp.

you guys remember the 'we should investigate the congress to find the unamerican activities of congressmen' bit from the last election cycle on Hardball? i remember thinking 'that woman just made a million dollars'.

anybody with a brain sees her parade of idiocy, and wonders how in the hell she remains in power. the rest of us see the parade of idiocy, and offer her money to continue it.

there are enough of the latter that it's a winning situation for her.

The only other possibility is that everyone in her district is actually saying "YEAH! SHELLIE! You rock girl!" and agreeing with the derp she spews.

So either that guy is lying through his teeth, or he is willing to disown his own daughter for getting involved in the political process when she doesn't agree with him. Sounds like an abusive and controlling piece of shiat, and if what he says is true (doubt it), then she's better off without him. Of course, the "family values" crowd will felate him for being such a stalwart patriot.

He's telling a "what if" story. The problem is he's still serious, and they're still cheering him on. That's what they think is, "funny because it's true." That is what freepers consider good and righteous and moral behavior. That is how they see the world. That is what they would inevitably call, "just a joke," when called on it. That's how right-wing humor works. You say something that you know is wrong, but emotionally want to be right, that is morally reprehensible and then laugh.

Jormungandr: odinsposse: Ironically, the only Muslims could install Sharia law in the US is if we first dismantle the wall between Church and State like Bachmann and other politicized Christians want us to.

No you couldn't. Because golf is a horrible game and a great way to ruin an otherwise nice walk in the park.
