Obviously didn't have enough time on the slip & slide as a kid.

looks to me like he slides just fine.

It makes sense if he was pretending the base was the last clean plate at the buffet table.

He should just roll.

I remember being at a Brewers' game a while back where Prince actually stole Second. The crowd didn't cheer. They laughed, and they started laughing as soon as he left First Base.

The pitcher had no farking clue what was going on, and I guess he thought there was a streaker on the field or something. I think that's how Prince wound up being safe.

After watching him repeatedly hit the ball 470 feet at the home run competition, I'm pretty sure he doesn't need to slide very often.

Hates sliding. Loves sliders. Not the pitch.

If you're going to stop that side of beef you'd better be more bulky that that scrawny little thing he knocked into deep left field.

I am not sure which was funnier, Fielder stealing bases or Jason Kendall doing a sideways bounce walk 90% of the way to second then running 3 or 4 steps to the bag. Kendall's was surreal, he just kept moving like he was leading off, never stopped, and no one noticed. And that was in a real game, in the middle of an at-bat, not Spring Training like the guy who kept going after getting walked this year.

//Gotta respect Fielder's speed. Heck, he's got 2 inside-the-park homeruns.

Heh, he's like that chubby kid who couldn't do anything right in gym class except CRUSH that softball/wiffleball every time.... hit it a mile. So, for like six weeks of the year, gym class was actually fun for him.

roc6783: //Gotta respect Fielder's speed. Heck, he's got 2 inside-the-park homeruns.

One was because the ball took a crazy bounce off a speaker in the Metrodome, the other was because an outfielder was stupid enough to try and draw a ground-rule double out of a ball stuck in the wall, then was like, "Well, maybe I'll pull it out and see what happens." [insert "your girlfriend" joke here] They were both pretty funny, but neither was what you'd call the typical inside-the-parker.

I played baseball for 20 years and I never learned how to properly slide, either. Got the sliding pants, the whole bit, just was always kind of chicken about it. The shots of Geoff Jenkins' and Jason Kendall's feet hanging off their ankles on non-sliding plays made me very reluctant to stick my toes under my body while it's moving, much less throw my head towards the ground and/or someone's body at full speed. The worst thing that happened to me on the diamond was one time I was playing short and I collided head-to-head with a second baseman going for a ball up the middle. That hurt bad enough.

/Never had a Slip-N-Slide, either

That's because he rattles the ground when he runs and nobody can pick the ball up.

17 career steals in 27 attempts. Not bad for a guy of his size.

May wanna get that sarcasm detector checked. Also, on the second one the ump could clearly see the ball under the pad and the fielder tried to play dumb after misplaying it.

Whenever somebody comments on how fast and hard Fielder can swing *despite* being so heavy, I always think "yeah, now imagine how much better he would be if he dropped 60 pounds."

Maybe if he covered his jersey in butter, like he covers the northern pike he swallows whole each night for a snack, he'd be able to slide better.

We took 3/4 from them in Baltimore and Derek Lowe got his ass kicked in that series, too. We'll be fine.

I literally just said "Derek Lowe got his ass kicked in that series, too". He's the weak link on the pitching staff and it really isn't surprising when he gets blown up for 10 runs, but it's not indicative of our overall performance as a team.

Was present at Tiger Stadium for dad's steal number two.
Catcher never threw - had the look of wtf just happened?

All we saw from behind first base was a huge cloud of dust, then, when all the dust settled, the biggest grin I've ever seen on Mr Fielder Sr's face. I don't think he believed it either.

/Not surprised at Prince's steal record - watch him run to first on any grounder - treats every one as beatable - more speed than one would think.

Thankfully it was a double, and not an inside the park homerun.

He's not fast as far as players go, but he surely isn't slow either. He runs hard and I'm pretty sure he could bear Mauer in a race.

As long as opp. managers keep that shift on I'll be happy. Fielder seems to take extra delight in hitting it where the 3rd sacker used to be. He is an all around better hitter than I expected, and he doesn't take any plays off.

Yes, I was there. It was a piss-poor showing by our offense, again. Oh well.

The Tigers have to feel pretty confident after sweeping the White Sox and taking 3 of 4 from the Angels before that. You guys had a nice late rally today in the 9th but it wasn't enough.
