It's a lose-lose type of deal. Lose to Viacom because they don't get the money they wanted and lose to all DirecTV customers because they get the Viacom crap.

direcTV took over 50 channels to push their end of the argument; i dont know that I watch any viacom channels, so I can't say that I felt too impacted.

I was in exactly the same boat. I might have missed Nick in September when the new Ninja Turtles cartoon starts, but the only thing this dispute has taught me is that I apparently never watch anything on a Viacom channel. Take 'em all and lower my bill. I'm fine with that.

i have kids, ages 11 and 2, so teen nick and nick jr have been missed in my household

and i have missed seeing the same 3 movies replayed 20 times each on comedy central in the last week or so

i don't know what other channels we've missed, but my son asking to see dora, spongebob, and diego, and then looking at me like i'm crazy for telling him we don't have that channel now, has made me really glad to see they're back!

I still pray for al a cart cable service through either fiber or Internet. Even if I paid $3-5/month for each channel that wasn't local, I'd still be way below my current bill. 200+ channels, watch maybe 20 with any sort of frequency.

2012-07-20 10:22:44 AM
Hulu Plus + NetFlix + Internet = All the entertainment we need. But yeah, they should do some al a carte service, but there is no money in that, not to mention a loss of power for the telecom's who control "entertainment".

It's amazing what happens when your ratings plummet 27% and advertisers for key demographics start looking at other options.

Viacom shot themselves in the foot with this one, but I'm glad it's over.

in before TV is no friend of mine.

I'm reading things that Viacom forgot they promote the stinking crap out of their motion picture sides through their own channels on TV. Oooops.

2012-07-20 10:48:17 AM
The whole thing was a good excuse to go to the cheapest DTV package I could find. Gotta have the kid stuff at least, and I get my daily show online anyway.

2012-07-20 10:52:10 AM
My friends have DirectTV...this sucked when we were over her house all last week and she and I were trying to can several bushels of vegetables with the kids getting into stuff. Made me appreciate our FIOS when we got home. It's always customers who lose in these deals.

2012-07-20 11:12:15 AM
Yeah! we can get caught up with what snooky and the rest of them are doing now. My life has been incomplete without knowing that.

Just kidding. I probably wouldn't have noticed if it weren't for the banners all throughout the programming guide.

Penguins of Madagascar is quality TV.

Good thing I had them all recorded to VHS.

That's still legal, right?

And this, ladies and gents, is why your cable bills are skyrocketing while the quality of content is becoming more and more retarded with shows like A Baby Story and World's Worst Tenants.

The media conglomerates have the cable & sat companies by the balls. They think that the recession has to effect everyone but them, and they can dictate their price to "whatever we damn well feel like", and the cost gets passed.........no, SHOVED down onto the "little guys".

THANK GOODNESS! My 7 year old has been watching nothing but Disney and I was quite honestly missing iCarly and Victorious. Nick has a far superior product to Disney. Well except for Gravity Falls. That cartoon makes with the funny!

Yay Comedy Central!

Since the Viacom blackout on DirectTV I have been looking online for a synopsis of each episodes of my favorite shows. Then I use my imagination to act them out using sock puppets.

2012-07-20 12:11:19 PM
I have DirecTV and I had already forgotten this was going on. And if not told, would probably never know they were back.

I love Futurama and South Park, enjoy Workaholics, and... well that's it. And I was already happily living with them.

It's never over with Viacom...

I have DirecTV, and I didn't notice. I hope Viacom got farked in the deal - no reason to pay extra for crap I'm not watching anyway.

2012-07-20 02:28:14 PM
Really, not one mention of Tosh.O?

Really?

2012-07-20 02:47:16 PM
I wish they did this every month. I called Directv and received 3 months credit and extra channels, now i am just going to go into the video on demand and load the Futurama and Tosh.O that i missed. Free tv, i missed nothing, Viacomm and Directv stocks plummet. Nice going greedy idiots.

2012-07-20 02:53:56 PM
Sadly, the only show I missed was Impact Wrestling.

I did find it funny seeing (on Comedy Central maybe?) three dueling messages scroll across the screen at the same time.

"They're trying to raise the price blah blah...."
"No, you!"
"Liars!"

2012-07-20 03:17:41 PM
I only got half off Sunday Ticket. I think they could tell I wasn't really going to cancel. Oh well.

In case you all missed the point here, this person feels sufficiently insecure to take the time to post something that he or she believes will impress all of us with how smart and sophisticated he or she is.

Please make a note of it for your records. This is very important to this person.

Yet during that small window, I got my bill lowered by $30.00 per month for 2 years, good deal!

FIOS is the greatest invention since the wheel. I loved that service, but I moved out of the area. They added channels all the time without adding to the bill (they have twice as many channels as any other provider), their picture quality in HD was better than even Directv , their internet never went down on me in the 6 years I had it. It brings a tear to my eye thinking about how awesome that service was. It's the only product recommend to everyone without fail.

I missed Jon Stewart and Colbert.

Effective immediately you'll be able to ctrl+F *** Viacom on DirecTV.

*** Offer only valid on PC hardware.

king of vegas: I missed Jon Stewart and Colbert.

Yep, that's how I feel.

hbk72777: FIOS is the greatest invention since the wheel.

But isn't FIOS at risk of the same situation coming up? With Comcast now owning NBC and it's associated channels (USA, NBCSports, etc.) I wonder if they're going to play hardball with the other providers in an attempt to crush them. Comcast Sportsnet is already screwing with DirecTV by blacking out local sports. So, if you live in Philadelphia, you don't get most of the Phillies, Flyers and Sixers games. Even if you get the extra packages, Like MLB Extra Innings, you don't get your game in HiDef.

Just bummed I missed a week of Jon Stewart. fark Viacom for taking down his web content as well.

If you are spending just the average amount of time a week for an American watching tv & you weren't affected by not having Comedy Central you are either dull as fark are stupid.

The web content is back up and the week before they were still on vacation so you only missed the 4 from this week.

I called the other day and only got 10 bucks off the next couple billing cycles and Showtime for 3 months :P. That's fine I guess, since we were going to drop it after the olympics finished up and we finish watching the hours of it we DVR.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. I can't get the internet to go down on me, either.

I missed two new Futurama episodes, but I was not really concerned since it's not a continuing story and I knew the missed episodes would be re-run countless times in the ... future.
