Ishkur: Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck et. al. must be taken to task one of these days for the hateful rhetoric they spew day after day. There are a lot of damaged people with mental disorders who depend on these pundits to validate their paranoid insecurities, and I wouldn't put it past this gunman that, due to the whole Bane/Bain coverage this week, he was convinced that the movie was an evil liberal socialist propaganda film and he needed to save people from its corrupting influence.

Listen. I'm going to let you in on a little secret here. Crazy people are crazy. If you feed their craziness, are you more likely to set off lots of crazy people? Sure.

But here's the gimmick about crazy people. The reason they're crazy is because shiat that would not normally set a person off sets them off. Yeah, maybe it's Limbaugh. Or maybe it's the fact that 4-corner simultaneous day earth is not taught to educated stupid kids, or because Queen Elizabeth II is a reptilian, or chemtrails, or their tea wasn't hot enough, or their tea was just right.

They're farking crazy. It's what they do.

Speculation at this point doesn't help anything. You know why? Your speculation that it was [PET VILLAIN HERE] could set off another crazy person to go on some lunatic rampage of "revenge" because of accusations just as spurious and possibly as untruthfully as BANE = BAIN and then the next thing you know you have some twenty-something pharma-resistant guy who thinks his olanzapine/clonapine cocktail is a polite suggestion deciding that his daddy's thirty-ought is looking like a real good solution to all the problems the voices in his head keep telling him about.

Not. Helping.

Phinn: muck4doo: I see the usual gang of morons had to come in here and turn this into a politics thread.

Blame ABC News. They started it.

Funny, I don't hear the same level of clamoring for political restrictions on media, along the lines of "something needs to be done about these media figures," being aimed at ABC News, compared to what one typically hears when Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity is supposedly to blame for one of these shooting crimes.

Such as was said earlier in this very thread, for example. Back when the shooter was a Tea Partier and not an Occupier.

Thanks Phinn, for reassuring me on my beliefs. See, I'm a dirty, dirty lib. I arrived to this position through life experiences but also through what I like to perceive as logic and common sense. When people were saying that this shooter is a Tea Partier in this very thread, I asked for a citation. I didn't want to just blindly believe that this guy was positively a Conservative because I believe if you're trying too hard to find out why this sort of thing happens, you're merely trying to project your politics on the other side. I didn't just rush to claim a political "victory", so my conscience is clean.

The truth is, there is just no "reason" for this. That implies that there is a justification and tragedies like this are simply unexplainable. It's senseless carnage. No one should die in such a horrible manner; sitting in a theater, with their loved ones, waiting to see a move they're stoked on.

You, on the other hand, are. You are screaming to the world this guy is a allegedly liberal, and you are rejoicing in pointing that out and that's just farking sad. It's sad and it's pathetic. Not because of the nature of your politics, but because you're just missing the entire point. That being that there isn't any. Some crazy asshole shot a bunch of people and the truth is, this maniac is hardly a representative of the human farking race, let alone liberals or conservatives.

So, thank you. I am too, passionate in my politics but I try to live my life compassionately and deep in my heart I know that I don't care about this guy's politics. I am a huge Batman fan, and I was stoked to see this movie, and now I know I won't fully enjoy it because I will be thinking of the people that died so senselessly. I may be angry, and visceral about what people on the other side of my fence do, but I have never subscribed to hatred, and I'm not so sure people like you can ever say the same.

qualtrough: MythDragon: And this is why I carry I gun when I go to the movies. And well, everywhere else.

If you are that afraid to go out in public it would probably be best just to stay home.

Who says I'm scared? I live in a high-crime city. You can't just cower in your bed all day. It's not healthy. See you seem to think that people who carry guns are either frightened little rabbits or gung-ho vigilantes who can't wait for the day they can shoot someone. That's not how most of us are.
I carry one just in case. I'm not expecting something to happen. If I was, I wouldn't go to that place. I don't want to shoot anyone (there is way too much paperwork involved). I carried a rifle for over a year in Iraq. Never had to shoot at anyone, and I am glad I was never in a situation that required it. I can go the rest of my life and never draw my gun, and that would be just fine with me. But I rather be able to defend myself if some crazy situation happens than just end up dead. Let me replay a conversation I had with my girlfriend's mom who saw me holster a gun before going out.
Mom: What's with the gun? Are you expecting trouble?
Me: No. Wouldn't go if I was.
Mom: Then why have it?
Me: Do you have fire extinguishers in your house?
Mom: Yes.
Me: Are you expecting fires?
Mom: No.
Me: Then why have them?
Mom: Well in case a fire....oh, I see.

If I was in that situation over at the theater, my first thought would be to get the hell out of there. Not start a firefight. Now if I was running toward an exit, and my path was blocked by the gunman, and I had no where else to go, then I would fire. Or if, during my escape, I saw that he had someone cornered and was about to kill them, and I had a *very* clear shot. (Like 5 feet away and not on the other side of the theater with people running inbetween) then I would probably shoot. But that's about it.

Most CWP holders are highly responsible. But you don't hear about them. You hear about the one asshole that shoots a window repair man because he thought he was breaking into the front window of some other guy's house at 1pm, while the homeowner's car was parked in the driveway and the front door was open. There are always idiots who make countless others look bad wether they carry guns, drink alcohol, or walk their dogs in the park.

Mrs.Sharpier: I'm sure it's been mentioned in the thread already but, wtf was a baby doing there?

This is why I hate going to the theater to watch movies. Not the baby in general, but the people that bring the baby, then loud noises spook it and it cries. It's not the baby's fault the 10,000 watt THX surround sound system scared it, it's the farking parents! And if it's not them, then it's the teens all grouped together and texting back and forth or the low rent mother farkers that like to talk at the screen, or the dumb GF that can't follow the plot and is constantly asking what's going on, or her tool boyfriend that actually answers! Or the fat guy who's body temperature is just below boiling in his fat rolls and he sits next to you and the convection heat poring off this human radiator makes you sweat!

I quit dating a chick that texted during movies, and even quit seeing movies with a friend because he'd answer his phone in the movie. We got into an argument because he answered and I kept telling him to hang up and he couldn't hear the person on the other end of the phone so he told me to shut up. Really?

Farking hate inconsiderate self centered asshats in theaters. Though, having someone open fire is a first!

Imagine if you were a parent of a teenager who lives in the area who was going to see the movie and you didn't pay very close attention to which theater. I imagine a LOT of frantic voicemails were left for kids last night, and a lot of parents sat up for hours terrified and wondering when/if their children were coming hom.

I don't think anyone making a joke about this literally believes there is anything funny about it, but people often deal with tension via humor; it's called "having a sense of humor." A hundred people per day die on the roads that are designed, built and controlled by government. 35,000 people every year, not counting the amputations and permanent brain injuries.

That death toll could be greatly reduced by changing the design of roads, the safety design of vehicles, the layouts of urban areas (which are created by governmental land use regulations), speed limits and other enforcement changes. Simple things the State refuses to do => thousands of people who would not die, day in and day out.

But 14 people die in what appears to be another lone wolf nutjob shooting, and THAT is somehow grounds for depriving 300,000,000 people of the opportunity to use guns for their self-defense.

Why is the Statist response to complex social problems always less freedom, more state control, and encouraging more helplessness?

Leeds: What are the gun control laws like in that part of Colorado?

Because so far the scenario is that that this guy strolled in, tossed tear gas, shot the ceiling, then ran up to the loft and started shooting anyone who left their seats. He was picking people off as they tried to run to the doors...

So how is it possible that there wasn't a single armed citizen in that theater? I have heard no reports of anyone exchanging fire with the gunman and I found that to be shocking. I only hope that this was a fluke and not the result of the state or local government.

Ugh, Colorado is gun friendly to say the least. They still cling to their Wild Wild West heritage. Further, Aurora is the home of Buckley Air Force Base and is full of active and retired military.

This is hardly surprising. Most gun nuts would shiat their pants faster than Ted Nugent at a draft board if they were actually being shot at.

Babies keep strange hours and they sleep a lot. It is not necessarily a crazy or stupid thing to take a baby to a movie, even a midnight showing. When it gets rude is if the child starts to make noise and the parents don't immediately take care of it, leaving the theater if necessary. If that did happen the poor child was probably asleep.

The Antifederalists feared that the Federal Government would disarm the people in order to disable this citizens' militia, enabling a politicized standing army or a select militia to rule. The response was to deny Congress power to abridge the ancient right of individuals to keep and bear arms, so that the ideal of a citizens' militia would be preserved."

Strictly legally speaking a correct interpretation; but anyone who realistically expects a mob of citizens with small arms of hundreds of different makes and calibers to take a stand up fight to the US military hasn't been paying attention to world events for the last 20 odd years. The days of rapidly training some guys to stand shoulder to shoulder with hunting muskets (loaded with home made Minies and black powder) while shooting at the other guys standing shoulder to shoulder until one side breaks is long past.

/Against all enemies
//Foreign AND domestic
///Yes, I took it

I took that oath too. Still serving (Army National Guard).

Here's a little secret. If somehow "they" tried to take the American people's guns, we'd have a freaking mutiny in the armed forces.

Many soldiers, maybe even most, would go along with it, but a lot of soldiers, officers and enlisted, would refuse, go AWOL/desert and resist.

There would be huge resistance from the people, including veterans. Veterans who know the US's counterinsurgency doctrines well, because they used to implement it.

Some shadowy gun-grab would be the start of a second Civil War. It wouldn't bring peace to this country by eliminating gun crime, it would bring a persistent insurgent conflict.

You don't have to win a straight-up shooting match to win a war, the Afghanis know this and Iraqis knew this. It's "hearts and minds" issue, and if the people see the government as oppressive tyrants, they've lost.

The Second Amendment provides a check on governmental power that is more implicit than explicit. Nobody expects shooting matches between citizens in an anti-government uprising and police officers and soldiers, but it's implicit as something that could happen, and any victory that the government could achieve militarily would be Pyrrhic in nature. They will win that showdown with that one guy and his guns, no matter how big his private arsenal is, but in doing so they turn countless otherwise neutral civilians against them.

I am a Police Officer. I've had people completely change their attitude with me when they realize I am a cop and not a "Security Guard". My duties often involve patrolling government facilities, and sometimes people see a guy in uniform at an office building or and think "rent a cop" and brush me off because they know that they are just for show. When people see a sidearm and a badge that actually says "Police" and see that the patch on the shoulder of my uniform is of a well-known agency, their attitudes change. Part of that change is the implied capability for the use of force that comes with police powers and a sidearm. I don't want to ever use those powers and weapon, and am very glad I've never had to draw my weapon outside of a firing range, but I know just having it there changes people's attitudes.

The Second Amendment is much the same way for the American people. It's that unspoken sidearm at the side that makes government take things a little more seriously.

From what I read it's not a "group" but a concept and they form up via flash mobs and take advantage of protests and such to cause chaos?

The Black Bloc is a loose affiliation of mostly anarchists who want to watch the world burn and leftists who believe that policy in the country cannot be changed through peaceful or political means. They show up at protests dressed in black balaclavas specifically to riot and cause property damage. OWS organizers are trying their best to root them out and differentiate themselves in the media because the association undermines their legitimacy, but how do you stop people who are dead set on it from showing up and causing chaos?

As for that right wing blog link, there was ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE offered to support the claim that the shooter identified with Black Bloc. Just the headline claiming a guy is Black Bloc. Now just watch how it gets picked up and repeated, and weep for the journalistic practices of the present.

All I can do is speak from personal experience. Years ago, my wife and I moved to Van Nuys & I was asleep when the wife woke me up saying somebody was trying to break into the house. I got out of bed, and sure enough 2 guys were trying to get in through the living room glass glass door. They were so intent on what they were doing that they didn't even notice me when I walked up to the glass door, until I tapped on the glass with the barrel of my pistol and yelled GET OUT OF HERE. They left in a hurry. We called the cops and they came & told me to "next time, call us. We can be here in 2-3 minutes." OK now, Imagine this scenario: They've broken in, you're dialing 911 and the cops are coming. The thugs have grabbed your wife and are coming at you with knives. NOW COUNT TO 120 and see just how long that really is when every second counts. Today, we live in a remote area where the police response time can be at least an hour at night. Keep your phone. Like everything else government does, the measures it takes to deal with complex social problems are grossly inefficient, insanely expensive, and more successful at promoting its own interests than achieving its stated goals.

14 more dead won't even register as a blip in the US death toll for the month of July 2012. No major changes will be implemented to reduce the deaths on government roads because of the 100 or so that will die on the government's roads today. Nor after the 3000 dead this month, or the 3,000 dead next month, or the 3,000 dead the month after that. No TV news anchor will talk about it.

But I guarantee that this lone wolf shooting incident will spawn hundreds if not thousands of hours of prime time TV, and have major political repercussions affecting the lives of 300,000,000 Americans.

All of which proves that Leftists, statists, authoritarians and other scumbags do not actually care about saving lives. They care about increasing control, and thus they care about sensational media-friendly stories that are their best means of doing so.

No, they ALWAYS occur at Schools, malls, courthouses, theatres, cruise ships, and the like. Places where the perpetrator expects to find unarmed, relatively defenseless victims.

They laughed at him so hard he decided to commit seppuku on the spot. (actually a little bit off from there, but same general area.

That's what happens when someone spews hate at sane people. They laugh it off. The nut balls who take it seriously are responsible for anything they do personally. They weren't riled up to do it, they were going to do something insane and chose that random straw to grasp at.

Now if you go through the trouble of grooming them and making an organization, like Al Quaeda, then the guy at the top is responsible BUT THAT STILL DOESN'T EXCUSE THE GUYS AT THE BOTTOM. They're still guilty. That's why the Manson Family is behind bars. Charlie told them to kill. They went and killed. They don't get a pass because it was Charlie's idea.

Unfortunately you're right. There is too much money involved in getting people to watch television news, buy newspapers, read news websites, etc.

It's the old "If it bleeds, it leads" method of news reporting.

And the political groups are all over it as well. Trying to get people to form their opinions on knee jerk emotional reaction rather than informed and thought out action.

"What? A bunch of people got shot?! Quick let's ban something!"

The Brady Bunch is working overtime to get people to sign petitions and send them donations while they are reacting and emotionally charged. Once people realize that if he hadn't had a rifle he had an apartment full of explosives and therefore clearly had the skills to make bombs. I'll bet there's a good chance he could have just brought a bunch of pipe bombs with him and used those. In fact in a room like that a few nail bombs may have been more deadly.

And the NRA will will work overtime to point out the anti's screaming at the top of their lungs as a reason gun owners need to sign their petitions and and send them donations.

And in the end we will realize like we did with the VT shooter that the solution isn't to try and anticipate and ban any kind of weapon a crazy person will use but to try and identify and intervene to get those crazy people the help they need before they kill a bunch of people. I'm sure once they look into his recent past there will be all kinds of signs that he needed help like there were with Cho, Hasan, McVeigh, Harris, and Klebold.

What happened in that theater wasn't a failure of laws to ban/restrict/regulate the weapons used. there will always be another weapon to use. It was a failure of society to recognize someone's problems and to help them.

And I'm not discounting in any way the responsibility that the killers themselves bare.

And if he were unable to obtain the magazine he wanted, he would have switched to using some other type of weapon.

In economics, it's called a product substitution. It's what people do when they want something, but the government doesn't let them have it. They adapt.

It's what happens in a market economy when the government "regulates" some unwanted behavior -- it happens anyway, but in a different form. It's what happens when the government bans drugs -- price goes up, potency increases as a hedge against risk, new (riskier) products get developed to avoid the rules (e.g., bath salts).

Adaptation is basically the reason behind the so-called Law of Unintended Consequences, and is the reason these half-baked product prohibitions fail.

Wrong. You can easily get off 70 rounds in a minute, even with reloads.

More people would be alive now if he had been forced to reload. Plus, that short reload pause might, just might, have been enough for someone to exploit.
Anyway, this nutter got inside everyone's loop and had complete advantage over his victims.

So, according to you, (presumably) somebody carrying a concealed weapon would make no difference, and would actually make things worse, because honestly, even with training, who would be able to react accordingly, BUT that that extra 1.5 seconds to reload could have made a difference, in that somebody could have gone after the guy in a darkened, smoke-filled theater.

The cognitive dissonance, it hurts. It's stupidly easy to reload an AR-pattern rifle. Easier than on an AK even.

Also bipolar disorder, early 20s.

Wouldn't be surprised to find out he was taking psychotropic drugs as well, particularly an SSRI.

What level clear are you?

If only he had had access to the tech.

One doesn't have to be a Scientologist to know that SSRIs really are the most common cause of hypermania these days (since their introduction). It's a known side effect of this class of pharmaceuticals. It's rare, but when it happens, it can lead to the deaths of many people other than or in addition to the one actually taking the drug.

SSRI-induced hypermania is implicated in a substantial percentage of the school shooting sprees of the late 1990s through now, in the postal worker rampage a decade previously that added the two-word idiom "going postal" to our language, in the death of actor-comedian Phil Hartman at the hands of his Zoloft-addled wife (who also killed herself in that act ― she had Zoloft in her bloodstream at the autopsy), etc.

No other hypothesis for the rash of premeditated multiple-target school shooting sprees that I know of explains all of the observed facts, including the demographics of the perpetrators and the schools in which the incidents happened: they were overwhelmingly white upper middle class ― exactly the class of people who could afford child psychiatrists and expensive SSRIs for their precious snowflakes, and even considered such a status symbol, like driving a Beemer or wearing a Rolex.

As of the time of the Virginia Tech massacre, there had been, to date, only two exceptions to the "white upper-middle class" rule among the recent rash, and both of them were known to have been on SSRIs at or shortly before the time of the crimes: Jeff Weiss of the Red Lake, Washington Indian reservation (himself a Native American), and Cho himself (Asian-American, definitely at least upper middle class though). Not a single such incident to the best of my knowledge has happened in poor neighborhoods or inner city ghettos or "da 'Hood." None have been committed by blacks.

There were no exceptions at the time that Michael Moore made Bowling for Columbine or even as of its release. Weiss and Cho were both still well into the future. Cho at least was still in the future when Moore made Sicko, giving himself yet another chance to do the right thing (since it was on the subject of the medical industry), and he still didn't do it. Only later would he finally admit that SSRIs were indeed the most likely cause (video of this is on YouTube). But he could've blown the lid off of this years previously, back with B4C, if only he could've let go of his insane hatred of Charlton Heston and the NRA long enough to try to find the real answers. I mean, at the time, 100% of the perpetrators were white upper-middle-class or higher youth. Gee, you'd think the author of Stupid White Men would've noticed that!

Really not CSB time...

I live in Denver. I was out of town for business, flew back home last night. My GF picked me up at DIA around 8:30, she had an audition for a local theatre production in Aurora right across the street from the movie theatre where this happened. The auditions were in a strip mall, she went to do her thing, I was extremely thirsty so I went to the Panda Express next door. There were people in the restaurant wearing batman shirts, talking to each other about the movie, how excited they were, etc...

I drank a disgustingly sweet lemonade, she sang her song and we hopped in the car and left.

I was woken up with a call from my dad, also on business, from Germany. He was asking if I had seen the news and if I was still going to see the movie at noon with two of my brothers (huge Batman fans, we had a marathon last Saturday with '89 Tim Burton through Dark Knight).

I have a strange delay with tragic events...deaths, attacks and other forms of trauma. We still went to see the movie this afternoon but afterwards, it finally hit me.

Those people in the restaurant, that stupid Panda Express in a strip mall in farking Aurora, people I didn't know but were just going to the movies, were there. Some of them might have been killed. Some of them injured. Hopefully neither.

The thing that is really bothering me is that we never go to Aurora. It's the butt of jokes in Denver, a dump, the ghetto, Saudi-Aurora. But for some reason I was there last night just before this awful thing happened and saw these people so happy and jovial.

It's a very strange mood, a very strange afternoon.

C) no one who is in a position to train and create training scenarios interacts with individual privates or lesser ranking soldiers/Marines the way you describe... it's just not how training works. its not like in the movies where salty sergeant just takes private pile out for various training montages. Gleeman: Silverstaff: "The "militia" comprised all males physically capable of acting in concert for the common defense.

It's not about a "stand up fight" it's about being a big enough pain in the ass to make the country ungovernable if tried. If you'd like to see what a small guerrilla group can do to a large superior army trying to hold ground look no further than recent military history.

dlp211: Fail in Human Form: I have no problem storing my firearms safely but that doesn't mean they can't be stolen and I have every right to sell guns I own to other individuals. I have done so many times in the past and bought guns at those "evil" gun shows without incident.

I don't necessarily agree with everything that the poster was saying, but I think the point he is trying to make is that you should be responsible with the weapon and when you want to transfer ownership there is no reason that you can't go to a FFL, pay a small fee, and have him do a background check and other paper work.

The idea that having a national registry will somehow place your weapons or your right to own weapons is laughable. What force is the government going to use to take your guns? There is no political will to outlaw weapons in the US, the military can not be used against its citizens and most of the military would sympathize with the citizenry being that they are typically gun owners as well.

If a gun is stolen it should be promptly reported and then you would no longer be held responsible, this can obviously be abused, but when you are try to traffic guns and attempt to report 50 guns missing for the 3 straight month, someone will (hopefully) think something is up.

I am typically a big fan of the right to privacy, but when you choose to own weapons which have one purpose (despite what you may think, a gun may be fun to shoot, but at the end of the day, it is intended to shoot and kill/destroy) then I see no reason that there shouldn't be some form of registration, just like a car.

If I had a gun that was stolen I would promptly report it along with the serial number (I have a list of them along with pictures). If I have 50 guns suddenly go "missing" I'd have no issue with the police looking into the issue. In fact I think that would be prudent. I don't support a federal registry because I do believe the 2nd amendment is there to protect us from a possible tyrannical government. The idea that it "can never happen here" is simply naive. In our lifetimes probably not, but what about our grand kids or their offspring etc.

This guy was found (correct me if I'm wrong) sitting in his car, seemingly waiting on police.

I want to ask: why? It was going really well for him. Sure Theater 9 panicked and ran away, but the the folks in the other theaters were (at this point) assuming that all of the noise is movie noise. If he had just walked out into the main hallway, he could have gotten many more.

So riddle me this: in the middle of an extraordinarily successful plot to murder innocents in a movie theater, and after wounding 59 and killing 12, the guy just goes and sits in his car.

WTF? I mean, we should all be thankful it wasn't worse, but the guy had just shot up one barrel (theater) and had 8-12 more he could have shot up to devastating effect.

Instead he just goes back to his car and sits?

That seem.... odd... to anybody?

The average US annual firearm fatality rate is 10.6 per 100,000 population which is more than the entire industrialized world combined

So what are some reasonable restrictions? What new laws do you want to see?

First, I think at MINIMUM the requirements to obtaining a CCW here in Ohio should be the requirements to obtaining any firearm ... those include:

- You must be at least 21 years of age.
- You must be an Ohio resident for at least 45 days.
- You must be a resident of your home county for at least 30 days.
- Find a qualified CCW instructor and complete the required 12-hour course to obtain your Certificate of Competency.
- Knowledge of carry laws. You may get a printed copy during your training course.
- Have a passport-sized (2" x 2") color photo taken within 30 days of your application date.
- Take your documents to the sheriff's office and apply for your license. As part of your application, you must:

Present your completed application, Certificate of Competency (or documentation of equivalent experience), and passport-sized color photo.
Present a valid photo I.D., such as your driver's license.
Pass a criminal background check and mental competency check.
Submit to having your fingerprints electronically scanned or inked and rolled onto a card.
Attest that you have read the Attorney General's pamphlet on Ohio's concealed carry laws.
Pay a non-refundable fee by cash, money order, or certified check made payable to your sheriff's office. The fee is $67.00 if you have been an Ohio resident for more than five years, $91.00 if less than five years.

Additionally, I think the requirements to Concealed Carry should require even more in-depth safety and training courses (think police tactical firearm training), yearly psychological exams, and aptitude in gun marksmanship (if you want to conceal carry, you better have X number of shots in X grouping area) updated at least every few years.

These are not unreasonable, they are not hard to achieve for those that want to, and they promote a more educated and proficient gun ownership.

My understanding is that the recent Supreme Court decision that overturned city handgun bans as unconstitutional would also prohibit such restrictions.

Of course the liberals would agree that the license fee is the equivalent of a poll tax, right?

HotIgneous Intruder: People are going to start to realize there's no reason for civilians to have these kinds of weapons.

A least not in a totalitarian society, no.

Free and representative societies are armed. Its not a U.S. thing. Mass shootings are just a U.S. thing.

Mandatory weapons training and/or ownership is common in many countries, this kind of thing is mainly an American problem. Don't often see things like this even in countries where every adult is REQUIRED to have a machine gun at some point.

So, lets stop blaming the guns and start looking at the problems in the social fabric.

1. Rush Limbaugh introduced his derp in the form of Bane/Bain comments earlier in the week.

Wrong: Link
Money quote: ""It has been observed that movies can reflect the national mood," said Democratic advisor [sic] and former Clinton aide Christopher Lehane. "Whether it is spelled Bain and being put out by the Obama campaign or Bane and being out by Hollywood, the narratives are similar: a highly intelligent villain with offshore interests and a past both are seeking to cover up who had a powerful father and is set on pillaging society," he added."

Rush then talked about this quote and gave his analysis...he didn't start the Bane/Baine bullshiat.

But, of course, this is isn't the first time someone's invented "facts" about Limbaugh in order to attempt to destroy him...some people - failing to have a valid, intelligent argument of their own - will fall back on trying to destroy their enemies...in this case, a person much smarter and wealthier than them.

Very rare that I consider a 300 pound oxycontin addict to be "smarter" than me...still not the case here...

Without knowing all the facts, I believe that he is going to be much closer to, if not exactly, the Occupy type. To me it just sounds like something an unstable person from that group would do. A midnight premiere of a Batman movie (probably the biggest in franchise history), dressing up like Bain, young white overstressed medical student with probably a ton of debt before he even gets out of school...I'd honestly be shocked if he was a conservative.

Please note I'm not saying that Occupy is filled with this kind of person, merely that the circumstances (to me) point to someone that would identify with Occupy more than Conservatism.

A movie theater seems like a weird target for someone angry at the government/banks/whatever, regardless of whether liberal or conservative. My money's on 'nutbag.'

The best reaction to this whole catastrophe would be greater investment in mental health programs, early-detection and intervention programs for young people and, just possibly, short-term daycare at the multiplex. (I really don't like people who bring babies because the sound system's usually too much for their tiny ears and it can lead to serious hearing damage, that and y'know, crying's annoying, plus a movie-long daycare for, say, $20 extra would encourage new parents to get out of the house more, which is always good.)

Other than that, I think everyone, including the black-humor crowd who manage shock and grief with dark comedy, the political candidates who EACH released statements of support for the victims and 'there will be other days for politics,' the pro- and anti-gun enthusiasts and political partisans who make every thread into a battle on their favorite issue and the journalists who wouldn't know a Glock from a Walther PPK unless James Bond was holding it...everyone's behaving exactly as expected.

Nothing to see here, place your flowers for the victims, maybe make a contribution to a medical-bills and trust-funds-for-victims-kids fund and move along.

1) Media people run around like headless chickens to figure out all of his political interests.

2) Media rails on believing shooter's political interests have to do with the massacre instead of you know...a broken brain.

3) The government half-arses a regulation. Either putting one security guard in every movie theatre or sticking a "No Guns" sign on the front door instead of either figuring out how to stop the flow of illegal firearms (if anything this guy carried was in fact illegally obtained) or regulating gun distributions to less people with questionable histories.

4) Radio nutjobs/political cartoonists end up blaming the victims for not fighting back/not carrying guns/bringing a baby into a midnight release

5) Some big guy at Congress blames rap/videogames/movies for the cause of the killing. Nevermind the indication of how hosed we are if these things REALLY cause people to kill since millions of people play games, go to movies and listen to music.

6) Mental healthcare isn't even looked at. The cycle repeats in a few years.

Immediately after a traumatic event is obviously the best time to have a non-emotionally weighted debate about how best to ban all guns. Just like it was after Columbine, and just like it was after the Reagan assassination attempt.

Fact: Rifles have always made up an insignificant fraction of the total gun deaths every year, but they are the apple of every Statists eye when it comes to "reasonable limits".
These weapons stopped looking like hunting guns and started looking like black death in the Vietnam era. Mass production making cheap weapons for the common man, and many of the features you fear most, have been around for over a century.

The time to have this discussion was in the 1920's.
It was had, and the results are what brought us here because those bans and all the following ones didn't work as advertised.

We need to try dealing with mental cases in some way other than a new round of bans on everything.

Newer SA handguns like the xD (which I've owned) are just very, very easy guns to use and in that way, they are more perversed by the criminal factions. We aren't talking about Dirty Harry .44 Magnums anymore ... we're talking about guns smaller than the size of your hand (for instance the xD .45) with the same lethal punch much larger guns had 30 years ago.

I agree. I suppose it's like any other wedge issue. People get so polarized that they can't have a sensible discussion about it, or even agree on laws that make absolute sense.

Instead, it's like the yin to abortion's yang - one side thinks it should be legal and widely available, and the other side just passes trolling laws that are thinly veiled efforts to accomplish what the side really wants to do - ban it.

The .45 ACP was first introduced in 1904. If you want more power you have to go .50 AE (made 20 years ago) or .500 S&W. Please, show me how often these 'new and more powerful' guns are used in a shooting.
The Springfield 30.06 cartridge was introduced in 1906. The 50 BMG was produced in 1921. You don't get much more powerful than that.
But again, how often do you see these 'super powerful' guns used? You don't. Because no one is gonna drop a ton of money on a gun just to go on a shooting spree when you can get a Hi-point .40 for like 200 bucks.

And tell me when a gun owner that droped $30,000 of a legal fully automatic Thompson machine gun has ever used it to commit a crime. Automatic weapons that are used in shootings come from blackmarket or illegal modifications that no gun regulation in the world is going to prevent.

The people who are most likely to commit a crime...such as people with a felony record, people who have been found to have a mental illness, people with current restraining orders, people with spousal abused records, ect ARE ALREADY NOT ALLOWED TO OWN GUNS! So unless you want to severily restrict or eliminate car ownership unless you can "demonstrate a compelling need to have one", then shut the f up.
By the way, law abiding citizens kill fewer innocent people than police do. Look it up, I'm not doing your research for you.

No, the sick thing is you think he shouldn't.

yeah you're right. I'm sick because someone who was just caught killing 12 people and wounding scads of others deserves our taxpayer money (and the victims' taxpayer money) to pay for court costs, etc. just to make sure he is actually guilty. Plus, it's a great idea to give him more exposure in case he has some sort of important message to share with the victims and the American people. Good point. Good job. Good effort!

Public humiliation and pain is what he deserves. Start making examples out of these freaks.

Look, I understand the thought process. Why should this sub-human monster get a trial? He killed people. Its pretty clear cut that he killed people. Everyone agrees he killed people. Gut him and be done with it.

But the problem is, where do you draw the line? Its a slippery slope. Which is the reason the judicial system has developed into what it is today. Like people often say, our judicial system isn't perfect, but its one of the best in the world.

If you argue that this monster's rights should be forfeited based on what we "know", then the rights that you and I have are illusory.

With that said, if he's shiv-ed in the jailhouse tomorrow by an unknown assailant and dies slowly in a pool of his own blood, I'll nod approvingly.

That is just a shiatty situation, these people were farked.

I'm a big supporter of CCW permits, and I have one, but this is a situation that went above and beyond.

I support the 2nd amendment and I have nothing against CCW. I can't carry in my state (NJ) but have my CCW from GA from when I was in the military which is good in a bunch of states. But in this instance, there is nothing that a reasonable person would have been able to do. Like I said, shiatty.

People can be sympathetic to the victims and still go on their "blame Fartbongo" screeds.

Let's be clear here .. when you read the newspaper article about local fatal car accident, you dont read the first sentence stating a man died in a fatal accident, take a 5 minute moment of silence to mourn their death, and then proceed with the rest of the article stating the cause of accident or whether they were drunk or texting, etc. You take in the who, what, when, why and how all at once. The fact is there are 300 million people in this country, and neither you nor I have an emotional or sentimental attachment to 99.999999%. Unless you personally know one of the victims, you're following this story because it's a news item and a spectacle.

A hundred people per day die on the roads that are designed, built and controlled by government.

Yes, if you reduce the speed limit to ten miles an hour, very few auto accidents will occur. But that has nothing to do with the shooting in question and is a very stupid analogy.

America has a tradition of private ownership of guns, as well as a constitution mandating such (although it's pretty damned hard to kill a dozen people with a flintlock pistol). The consequences of such is that sometimes people shoot other people with said guns.

But both sides need to grow up here. The anti-gun side needs to realize that guns aren't going to be banned any time soon, and even if they were, such a ban would be amazingly difficult to enforce due to the large number of guns already in existance (and enacting such would probably trigger the Second American Civil War). The pro-gun side needs to grow some humility and stop saying stupid things like "Guns don't kill people, Lincoln Town Cars kill people".

LAST NIGHT IN AURORA

By Tim Kelly · 07.20.2012 · Movie News

I've been living in movie theatres these last few days. It's the sort of hysteria I live for. I could have seen The Dark Knight Rises earlier, and I waited. I waited because I didn't want to see a movie I so looked forward to in a room full of press. I wanted to see it with my friends, my family, with an audience: a collective group of human beings all gathered to share a moment in time in a cultural ritual we've celebrated for almost a century. We shuffle in with our popcorn, our candy and yes, our cell phones. We're families, friends, lovers, strangers, and we're there to celebrate not only our entertainment, but our communities. And no matter how much we tire of the chatter, the texting, the crunch of popcorn, it's a beautiful part of who we are.

And last night in Aurora, Colorado, a very sick human being tainted all of that.

I don't know how things will change; I just know that they will. It could be minor - it could be that a mother thinks twice about letting her son or daughter go to a midnight showing with their friends. Or it could be significant - patdowns, metal detectors, security.

The headlines will read "Batman Massacre," "Movie Massacre," "Dark Knight Rises Movie Massacre," and it's not that. It's just a massacre. Senseless and heinous. And it's not video games, it's not media, it's not violence in our movies. It's a disease so rotten and an impurity so deeply rooted that evil doesn't seem like the appropriate word. It's a sickness. And if you're here and if you read sites like this one, that same sickness was just imposed on something we've all loved, celebrated, and have taken for granted for our entire lives. Our community has been shaken.

There will be time for finger pointing, for blaming, for magazine covers and an endless glurge of talking heads to try and make sense of it all on our televisions. We can't. We never have. There's no answer to this. Only sickness.

My thoughts and prayers and, I'm certain, your thoughts and prayers are with the victims and those affected by this awful tragedy. I'll find myself in a movie theatre later tonight, I usually do. And for the first time in my life, my mind will be in a theatre far removed from the one I'm sitting in. Because a horrible thing happened in our community last night, and we can't find any answers for it.

You cannot stop evil people from arming themselves in ways that hurt the innocent. 6,000+ years of history is proof of that. You cannot disarm the evil, just doesn't work, as 6,000+ years of history prove.

What we can do is adhere to the wisdom of Free Men and arm ourselves accordingly, not to take lives but to prevent the taking of lives of those around us."

a) This is Colorado we are talking about. You honestly think no one in the theater audience had a gun? Hundreds of people who like watching stuff blow up were congregated in that room, and there wasn't a single guy carrying? My hunch is that at least one gun totin' dude was in there. And guess what? Didn't help. But yeah, you can join Marky Mark in thinking that if YOU were in an emergency situation, you would be the big hero. You just keep thinking that in the safety of your living room.

b) Yes, keeping everyone armed is surely the way to preserving peace. And since we aren't making distinctions among weaponry (i.e. it is people who kill people, and it doesn't matter if they are going to do it with guns or knives, they will still do it), let's just arm everyone with thermonuclear devices. As long as we train everyone how to use them, that should work out.

Ah, only the government and society can make you successful (you can't do it alone), but a monster shooting up a theater is completely operating on his own. When it serves the liberal mindset then society can take the credit, but not the blame. Well, it was the president who made this stupid argument. At least be consistent. Or maybe, just maybe, people are responsible for their own success. And their own evil.

The problem with concealed carry is this - in a similar situation to Colorado - in a dark, crowded movie theatre, with a smoke grenade that just went off - if all the other concealed carriers pulled their weapons and tried to fire back, it's almost a guarantee that they're going to wind up killing more innocent people in the cross-fire rather than helping the situation.

How well do you shoot when there's smoke from a smoke grenade in a dark, largely unlit enclosed space with lots of scared, screaming, panicking people? Be honest.

I was just thinking of the history of the sentiment. The second amendment as we know it was lifted in part from the Virginia state constitution. However as originally penned, the use of arms was only unrestricted upon one's own land. The wording was changed, in part because there was land that wasn't really anyone's, but people would hunt there and such. However there was no sense of completely unrestricted, carry it wherever you want stuff going on. Hell if you'd had told someone 120 years ago that the ban on carrying a weapon in any number of western towns, was a violation of the second amendment you'd have been considered insane.

It worked pretty well for a couple bank robbers in California some years back. And also it depends on exactly what type of protection it is, is it cloth only or cloth with ceramic panels? Cause the latter will not only prevent bullet penetration but also absorb a lot of impact.

Have you ever been the victim of a violent crime or have had someone close to you be?

It must really suck living in a world of constant fear.

Having a weapon in your home is living in constant fear? No dumbass it is just called being prepared, in the same way you might keep a flashlight and rations in case of a natural disaster, particularly if you live in an area prone to natural disasters such as Hurricanes for example. I don't ever worry or "fear" for my life, but should the worst happen at least I might be prepared for that.

Funny, I've never had a gun in my home for protection (however, my vertical barrel Remington is in the garage in the back yard for skeet shooting). In 25+ years, and the 55+ years my parents have been alive, and the hundreds of hundreds of man-years my extended family has been alive, we have never needed or used a gun for protection.

The "home invasion" gun is nothing more than you being a scared little pansy living in suburbia ... I have to say the reactions to people calling for gun control makes a good deal of you sound like a bunch of farking fruit cakes. Anyone would think people would be taking your testicles!
It's called control, not a ban. You can have your hunting rifle or shotgun, that's a tool! You don't* need a Desert Eagle or an AR-15. Your reactions are just like taking away a child's favorite toy! You like your guns, you don't need them. They are just toys!

"But how would I defend myself and my family?" Easy, all you dip shiats that are spouting criminals will be able to get guns one way or the other... Well not here. What little gun crime there is, the offending weapon is usually an antique or a converted starter pistol or a replica with a drilled out barrel. Gun crime here is mostly wannabe gangstars that shoot each other 'cause they were "dissed" or ripped each other off... or whatever the disagreement might be. See they SHOOT EACH OTHER, not random people in their homes in the suburbs. When you have gun control something is in short supply - BULLETS - that's right, without a gun shop on every corner endless supplies of cheap ammo is not happening. Do you need a lesson in supply and demand? Well in a nutshell it means bullets will be in short supply and expensive. How much? I have no idea, but I am willing to bet expensive and scarce enough that they are used sparingly!

Remember this ??
2.bp.blogspot.com

Yeah you get the occasional hit with a more "advanced" weapon, but they tend to be proper criminals or professional killers. Again, they have their target and no one "innocent" should get hurt . Lets make a point here, no matter how sad it is when some kid gets shot, chances are he did something to deserve it! Like I said bullets aint cheap here!!

Now is this all just hear say? Let's see what the facts say. We will use 2009 ( first year that came up on Google, despite my 2011 addition to the search - feel free to check 2011, if you can be bothered but I imagine it will show pretty much the same results)

US population = approx 311,000,000 - Murders by fire arms in 2009 = 9146 - Deaths/Population = 1 per 34,003 people

UK population = approx 60,000,000 - Murders by fire arms in 2009 = 39 - Deaths/Population = 1 per 1,538,461 people

Pretty shocking figures really. And how many more non-homicide deaths by guns were there? I can't be arsed to look that up, but I'm guessing a fair few.

There you have it, like it or not, gun control works. A shiat load more than I bet you guys thought too, cause I am certainly surprised!

HOWEVER

*You do need your guns, the US is sodden with with guns. You will always have to live this way. But I guess you are happy as you get to keep your toys. But come on, just between us, you got to admit, you know the right to bear arms thing was written for a different time, when Indians prowled and wolves and bears roamed the land. So my advice is stop spouting that shiat as an excuse and just say it how it is "it's too late to go back now"

It's ugly, but relevant.

okay, I'll bite.
Why is this remotely relevant?

Do you think it is part of the Tea Party's secret plan to murder people in theaters?
If he is also a member of the Book of the Month club, do you think that it is part of their plan to do the same?

If he is a member of the Steam or Origin community, do you think they are partially at fault?

Face it, it is only relevant because people hate the Tea Party and are willing to do anything to smear them.

Because, like it or not, the Tea Party has become a crazy fringe political group. What it once was and what it is now have no relationship to one another--it began as a group of citizens upset with what they felt to be overtaxation--and yeah, they mostly happened to be Republicans, but whatever. What it is now, though, is meanspirited, ignorant, and populated mostly--not entirely, but mostly--by violent-minded, unintelligent, easily led and fundamentally angry Americans. And so if he is now a member of the Tea Party, it's relevant because Tea Party members by and large listen to and eat up the violent, inflammatory rhetoric of the right--and not only that, but they are a group who demonstrate an uncanny willingness to parrot all the talking points and do what their masters tell them.

In the last few days, an unoffical leader of the Tea Party has started positing that this Batman movie is a liberal conspiracy or some such nonsense. It's not a stretch, then, to wonder if there is a link between a Tea Party member committing this atrocity at a premiere of this very movie.

OWS has become a fringe political group, too. It used to be mostly people just angry with the perceived mistreatment of "Main Street" vs. "Wall Street", and has turned into a movement of people who, no doubt, will one day blow up a building in some midwestern town and call it Freedom.

If this guy was a member of OWS, in other words, I'd say the same damn thing: it's relevant.

cameroncrazy1984: Frank N Stein: While someone at this theater returning fire might not have been successful, it would have given him/her and the others a fighting chance.

No, it would've gotten him/her and the others near him shot. The suspect was wearing body armor, nobody else was. Shooting at someone who is wearing body armor (especially with a pistol) does nothing but draw the suspect's attention to you. Especially at a distance of more than a few meters, you have very little hope of putting him on the ground unless you get very, very, very lucky. The chances of a headshot (outside of two to three meters) is very small.

I'm a gun owner. I understand the limitations of the weapon.

All the news channels are saying he set off tear gas in the theater. I doubt someone armed would have been able to even identify him while battling the effects of tear gas.

Ban guns, make martial arts compulsary.

The funny thing is that with a lot of Conservatives health care is evil because people abuse it. They'll go ape-shiat over someone getting health care without paying for it, saying it is socialist and horrible and that its taking money from them.

Yet, with guns, attacks like this make them want LESS regulation, stating the stupid argument that if someone was armed they would have prevented the attack.

So if a shooter opens up a public place and several CCW cowboys respond, how do you know that the person you're shooting at is the gunman or another vigilante who's shooting at you? Without communication and cohesion, any gunfight has a tendency to become very tragic very quickly. More guns means more innocent bystanders being hit.

I've been assured this is a completely impossible situation, because responsible gun owners are responsible.

Not. Helping.

So your argument is that everyone who has ever gone on a rampage for political reasons would have done the same thing even if there were no extremist movements for them to sympathize with or no inflammatory rhetoric for them to spend years wallowing in? Yeah, that's bullshiat.

There are people who do this sort of thing as a result of alienation, anger, hopelessness, and mental derangement, but there are far more people who carry out acts of violence motivated by political, social, and philosophical considerations which they feel justify what they've done. Mental illness does not make you a murderer, and the purveyors of political violence -people like Tim McVeigh, Scott Roeder(the man who shot Dr. Tiller), Mohammed Atta, and Anders Breivik- aren't insane anymore than their actions are fated. The ideologies people choose to follow, the ideas they choose to believe are true, the rhetoric they expose themselves to all have an impact on how they think and thus how they behave.

I'm not saying this attack was so motivated, but the argument that every act of mass violence ever is the result of someone having a screw loose, and that the purveyors of said violence would have carried out those acts no matter what -regardless of the political environment, regardless of the accessibility of guns, regardless of what they believe- is hogwash magical thinking.

This is absolutely mind-numbingly horrible. But let's be honest with ourselves: we can't have nice things. The gun control debate in the United States is effectively over unless some of the folks who are avid 2nd amendment advocates start re-thinking their position in the wake of these types of shootings. I do not plan on holding my breath for this to happen.

There is a large percentage of our population who cannot bear the thought of ANY restrcitions on their ownership of firearms, no matter how sensible, and the Supreme Court has affirmed such ownership as a fundamental right. The only thing you can do is shake your head and try to point out the idiocy of folks saying this situation could have been somehow avoided if members of the audience were armed. Maybe one day folks will feel differently. I hope so.

...using the incident to explain how there needs to be more restrictions on gun control (as though there aren't countless other methods for inflicting high casualties on a small concentration) and ignore the complexities of "why people kill", spanning economic, psychological, educational, and political purposes far beyond "LOL IF HE DIDN'T HAVE A GUN HE COULDN'T HAVE SHOT NO ONE", complexities which haven't come close to being understood as they apply to this particular incident.

...an inane urge to immediately and indirectly pin the violence on their most hated political talking heads, a shooting which centered on a movie theater playing a screening of a movie series in which "Some men just want to watch the world burn."

Car seat + blankets/padding/hats/etc and that kid isn't hearing anything close to 90db. Driving on the highway in a car with the windows open produces about 70db +/-... I think you're going a bit over the top with "child abuse".

Driving a car with the windows open is about the same as a normal conversation? Hmmmmm, you must talk really loud or have a really really REALLY quiet car.

db is logarithmic I think, double the sound for every 10 db if I remember correctly. Whisper in quiet library, 30 db. Normal conversation is 8x louder at 60-65 db, which is half as loud as the 70 db of a car, which is 4x quieter than 90 db movie, which 4x quieter than a 110 db concert, which is 8x quieter than a jet engine at 100' at 140 db which causes permanent damage even with short exposure without protection, which iis 32x quieter than the loudest sound possible at 194 db. If I did my math right that is...

To prevent occupational noise induced hearing loss, you can tolerate

85 dBA - 8 hours
90 dBA - 4 hours
95 dBA - 2 hours
100 dBA - 1 hour
105 dBA - 30 minutes
110 dBA - 15 minutes
115 dBA - Ceiling limit.

See, here's the thing...if I were to ever decide to go wipe out a bunch of people for some reason, I would at least have the foresight to spend 6-12 months littering my internet history with links to some political celebrity that I hate.

I would also make it look like I was this person's biggest fan - posters, campaign buttons, etc., maybe even some of their favorite quotes printed out and hung on my walls.

Then, one the night of the snappage, I would post something to Twitbook about how I was "Going to make ________ proud." or something along those lines.

That way when I make the headline news, they can spin it as "__________ supporter kills ____ and wounds ____."

Luckily for everyone, I'm not the "snap and shoot up a theater" type.

If you were correct, you'd have a point. The fact is that you aren't, so you don't.

Perhaps you'd like to point out where I'm incorrect then. Are guns not designed to kill people? Keep in mind we're talking about hand guns and semi/automatic weapons here, not long guns (which could be used for hunting). They're designed solely for use on people, with the intent to harm/kill.

So what part am I wrong about?

Having a kid doesn't mean giving up your life, but I don't think people are being unreasonable to assume that it involves some minor sacrifices, like not going to a movie at midnight.

How does one take part in Lycanthropy? Is there some secret passage under a forge somewhere that you can go and drink werewolf blood?
And wouldn't taking part in lycanthropy actualy be a good thing if it keeps you from taking part in vampirism by making you resistant to the disease that causes it? I mean if you become a werewolf in order to not become a vampire, you'd think the two would at least cancel out.

Large capacity magazine in either or both, shooting into a densely packed and panicked group as they all go for the exit to escape the gas. Can't miss at that point, you are going to hit someone with every shot, and if its a rifle very likely penetrate more than one with some shots.

This is FARK. People here dont like breeders or their babies. Especially in theatres airplanes or restaurants. Shooters eventually get forgiven by this mob (and heaven forbid one gets the death penalty) but a baby in a movie theatre will NEVER be tolerated on FARK.

Of course a Raider fan would be an asshole about this. How naive of me to expect otherwise.

. All the other people have spent $12-$18 a piece to watch the thing and they don't want to listen to crying babies, calling phones ringing, bright screens, or people having loud conversations. As I had said, get a freaking baby sitter or don't go to the movies.

I'm a "breeder" and babies do not belong at a theater? Especially at a crowded midnight showing for adults. If you absolutely cannot wait go to an early matinee. A lot of theaters around here don't allow kids under a certain age after 8 or 9. It's a good policy.

Then again, I live in an apartment complex that, up until a month ago, had a pedophile priest living next door-- who was supposed to be on the sex offender registry (I looked up the complex before I moved in) and wasn't--that I knew nothing about. U.S. Marshals knocked on my door and asked if I saw any kids going in his apartment after they escorted him to wherever. Eight previous counts, apparently....

ALF and ELF are currently active. You're not very well-informed, are you?

Oh? When is the last time they shot up a place, tried to assassinate a senator, flew a cessna into a building, set up an ambush for police officers, or blew up a federal building?
I can think of all of those recently, but none of them from the left for some reason.

bringing up the ghost of the SLA from 40 years ago, or listing a current group known mainly for spray painting slogans on shiat, will not make us all magically forget the building number and intensity of violent right-wing racist and christian identity groups.

When was the last time ALF or ELF carried out a major domestic terrorist attack, with actual deaths caused to innocent civilians?

Wikipedia says that ELF spray-painted a McDonald's in Oregon. ZOMG

you mean the old dude who stopped a robbery in progress...........good for him
maybe he saved some lives........or maybe the kids were just out to grab whatever valuables they could get (one had a baseball bat as a weapon, IIRC) and were not planning on doing a columbine.
maybe the kids who were involved had a gun because guns are everywhere........thanks to 2nd amd freedumz

Actually we're evolving.

Back in the 70's someone lines up a bunch of kids in north africa and puts some bullets in them and nobody's the wiser... except the kids who died. Now, that kind of shiat starts riots that overthrow the government of the country.

A random public attack is nothing new. With modern technology one person can do more harm than previous, but at the same time there's a lot less attacks per capita. So really we're much safer and more civilized. Also, we no longer put entire cities full of people to death after winning battles. Agincourt, for example, was nasty stuff.

No;

"Mentally ill" specifically means only a far-right white guy with provable right-wing ties.
"Liberal" is what they call all other white terror suspects if they have no known ideological links, or a known but unprovable (or at least hideable) links to right-wing groups.

Remember, there are no violent Right-wing domestic terrorists - only violent Left-wing domestic terrorists, and "mentally ill" people.

I have never heard of a left-wing domestic terrorist. Don't be deluded. White guys with no known ties to Islamic groups are usually called "right wing militia extremists".

That was the shooter according to the feed from the PD and FBI feed I'm listening to right now.

yeah, I'm sayin' it sounds more like somebody who decided to wait in the car

It wasn't. The report from the police chief and the FBI agent says they don't presently believe there was another shooter.

I was listening to the report too pal, I also understand that there is currently a very active investigation into what happened, and that currently statements are to the effect that they have found no evidence of another shooter. Have they printed the suspect and the gun found in the theater yet? searched all nooks and crannies for a second discarded armor? No? k

/thanks

There! she pulled her shiat back together and is being professional about this again

I'm wondering how she even knows. All the bodies are still either in the theater (pending forensics) and at the hospital.

Several witnesses have now described a baby being shot at (near) point blank... given the number of reports from different witnesses, I'd be surprised if there isn't a large element of truth to it.

Which again raises the question why anyone would have a baby in a theater at midnight, even WITHOUT a threat of gunfire. Although I do doubt the "point blank" scenario, and what probably happened is a baby got shot from very close range. In a dark theater, there's no way a shooter could accurately target a baby.

I'm not gonna second guess parents who had their kids shot in the theater tonight... however it ends up, those parents are going to be pretty wrecked in the head even without our always helpful critique of their actions.

Oh, dear god, I hope none of them is or is related to anyone here...

Nope. He's a paranoid schizophrenic... they make the nutters on both sides look like Ghandi.

Thanks.

He was paranoid schizo and WAAAAAY out there, but people close to a person with that disease have an inordinate amount of influence on them.

Since at least one person in close contact with him was a serious white separatist/racialist, what is considered normal 'colorful' talk in those type of circles about evil federal government/liberals/revolution/etc very likely at least directed if not incited his violent behavior.
Spew enough irrational random hate around unstable people, one of them will eventually act on it. Whose fault is that? You can blame it on the mental illness only so far.
