tacos4jesus: I'm sure this will be lost in the sea of comments, but I'm more than a little disappointed in the flippant comments made here. I'll give the first handful of folks a pass, as things were a bit murky at first, but this is a tragedy and nothing to laugh at.

Imagine if you were a parent of a teenager who lives in the area who was going to see the movie and you didn't pay very close attention to which theater. I imagine a LOT of frantic voicemails were left for kids last night, and a lot of parents sat up for hours terrified and wondering when/if their children were coming hom.

I don't think anyone making a joke about this literally believes there is anything funny about it, but people often deal with tension via humor; it's called "having a sense of humor." You're the same type of twat that got Don Imus fired over nothing, and forced countless comedians to apologize for words that came out of their mouths. I loathe people like you. Get the fark out.

The Muthaship: HotWingConspiracy: So, the military?

Sorry, I thought you were making a sort of passive aggressive defense of Fast and Furious with your Mexico crack. My mistake.

I was. Though I don't feel it was passive aggressive. I was just keeping it rolling.

Tommy Moo: Another question: how did this guy know to set off his tear gas "during a scene where the same thing happens during the movie"? Did he have access to an advance screening?

From the sound of things, I'd say it's a good bet that he was an employee of the theater, so maybe.

Also looks really, really weird. But cool.

So, an AA12?

If it was an AA12, i'm gonna be so annoyed.

Yeah, fark the Constitution! What a courageous patriot you are!

As far as I'm concerned his Constitution rights were null and void when he pulled guns on a theater full of innocent people.

//There comes a point when a trial is just a formality.

that point is generally not within 3 hours of the deed and previous to official police statements regarding an ongoing investigation. They will be updating the nation at 11 BTW

Ishkur: HotWingConspiracy: Have you ever read one of these threads? There are people that would forgo pay just to be able to trot around with a gun and play hero.

The problem with vigilante justice is you can never be sure you're the only one. So if a shooter opens up a public place and several CCW cowboys respond, how do you know that the person you're shooting at is the gunman or another vigilante who's shooting at you? Without communication and cohesion, any gunfight has a tendency to become very tragic very quickly. More guns means more innocent bystanders being hit.

Most gun nuts perpetually daydream doomsday post apocalyptic scenarios in which they and a handful of their white brethren are able to fend off large hordes of unwashed urban minority hordes from acquiring their built up food and water stores. (because, you know, no urbanites or minorities have ever served in the military and trained in something as rudimentary as how to overtake a lightly defended position). They honestly believe that the best case for survival is to fight off the numbers, rather than join them.

They're not what we like to call "tethered to reality".

Has there ever been a single instance of this happening? I can't remember ever hearing about a time when a gunman opened fire and multiple CCW holders responded and it ended up in an OK corral type shootout. Are you referencing a specific event?

Unless the guns this guy had were obtained illegally or through gun show loopholes, there isn't a gun control debate on this right now, so you can save your talking points.

There are no gun show loopholes. These things don't exist - it's a false talking point made up by people who think they know better than you about what you can and cannot own.

ronaprhys: HotWingConspiracy: ronaprhys: HotWingConspiracy: I hear ya buddy. If the occasional massacre is the price to pay for my child-like notions of rights and freedom to be protected, I say it's a fair trade.

What I like is your child-like notion that banning something would prevent such an occurrence. It shows that you've really sat down and thought this one through.

I never said a ban would prevent a massacre. I can say for certain that continuing to loosen regulations won't either.

BTW, are we back to guns don't kill people now? Because it seems like they do if you send them to Mexico.

Your statement clearly showed that you believe a ban would prevent this. If not, why call for a ban or even insinuate that it's a good thing?

I never even used the word ban. You wanted me to, because that's all you can argue against.

The second part, however, appears to be purely conjecture on your part - and conjecture that's not supported by the facts. Note that in every area where firearm laws have been removed or loosened death and destruction have not followed. Oddly enough, the reverse does appear to happen.

Go fetch me some numbers. I doubt they say what you want them to.

Firearms that have been banned in major metropolitan areas have seemingly always led to an increase in violent crimes, shootings, etc.

Not really.

As for your last statement, strawman. Try harder.

Darrell Issa is no strawman, you take that back. He's a car thief.

So, you're either taking up a seat you didn't pay for, or blocking the aisle with all this breeder support paraphernalia ?

Oh, btw... before you even insinuate it... I am a parent. We did not go to movies until my daughter was old enough to understand what was going on... then it was matinees, and then finally evening movies when she was 8 or 9.

There is also a world of difference between 70db and 90db.

/You've obviously made up your mind, and I suppose this is neither the time nor place for this conversation anyway, so I will shut up.

No, that's not the loophole. If I sell a firearm to an individual, as a private seller, there is no background check required.

cc_rider: TommyymmoT: thejoyofpi: TommyymmoT: White guy, according to Fox.

There would be more conspiracy theories, and " ooooooTERRORISTS! MEXICANS! NEGROS! MUSLINS! LETS TIE THIS TO OBAMA!"s, than any sane man could take before he snapped.

I'm also hoping this guy doesn't turn out to be an ex-combat veteran or something. Those guys are dealing with enough shiat already.

If it was a PTSD-having disturbed combat vet, it doesn't help any of the victims. That said, if that were the case, it may have the effect of forcing the military and VA (mostly the military) to spend a bit more attention on working out the psychological damage multiple tours in a combat zone has on many people.

My money's still on a generally crazy guy like the nutjob in Tuscon.

2012-07-20 08:15:14 AM

ronaprhys: Perhaps you'd like to point out where I'm incorrect then. Are guns not designed to kill people? Keep in mind we're talking about hand guns and semi/automatic weapons here, not long guns (which could be used for hunting). They're designed solely for use on people, with the intent to harm/kill.

So what part am I wrong about?

How about the part where you started typing? Firearms are designed for many different things. Are some designed to kill people? Yep - but not all are. To type what you did shows a complete lack of understanding or that you're willing to lie just to try and score political points.

Couple that with the idiotic notion that banning such things would prevent anything and you really demonstrate where you're coming from.

Perhaps you'd like to re-read my statement.

I think it can be safely said that the movie will do just fine despite this incident, though I'm sure some wingnuts out there will be calling for showings to be cancelled, or for security to be added inside all theaters, or for costuming at movie showings to be banned, or some other such nonsense...as if any of that would change a damn thing.

Even if you have a suppressor most gunshots are still really loud (around 130 Db). Unless the movie theater had the volume really cranked up to rock concert levels you'd still hear it.
