Ishkur: of course, you know what this means? ...TSA style pat downs and screenings at all theatres for now on.

Well, if that's the case it's a good thing I stopped seeing movies in the theater years ago. Got tired of all the cell phone talking, seat kicking, people talking BS. Nowadays movies are out on DVD so quickly that I don't have to wait that long to watch them in the comfort of my own home.

asciibaron: why is a 3 month old at a midnight movie?

Because white trash.

A sigh of relief from me (white) as well.
There would be more conspiracy theories, and " ooooooTERRORISTS! MEXICANS! NEGROS! MUSLINS! LETS TIE THIS TO OBAMA!"s, than any sane man could take before he snapped.

HotWingConspiracy: I don't think you really understand the utility of policy and gun free zone designations. I'll give you a small hint though - nobody thinks they magically keep weapons away.

That's strawman idiocy pushed by the people that think guns make us safer.

As opposed to the idiocy pushed by people who think that banning inanimate objects make us safer?

Endive Wombat: HotWingConspiracy: I sincerely hope the NRA lobbies for a bill requiring theater ushers to be armed, it's the only logical response to this.

The Brady Bunch will be calling for metal detectors and pat downs at theaters now. I can guarantee that the theater has a "no weapons" policy and signage...so if this place was a "gun free zone" how is it that he was able to get guns in there? He violated the rule? Whaaattt???

Because a large dark room with an uneven floor and hundreds of people in it is a fantastic place for a shoot-out.

TheNyquilKid: tinfoil-hat maggie: Gyrfalcon: Fluorescent Testicle: Gyrfalcon: So does this prove Limbonehead right or wrong?

I'm worried that this was caused by Limbaugh's comments.

So was I. I wasn't kidding.

Wait, I don't listen to that kind of thing but what did he say?

That Bane was used as a villian by the liberal media elites because Romney ran Bain. Then the next day claimed he never said it.

Uhmm if I'm not mistaken the Obama campaign has also been running the Mitt Romney as Bane idea, see that pic early on in the thread?

So yeah, I'm going to say that while Bane wasn't created by the Liberals to target Romney, they sure hammed up the false comparisons give room for Limbaugh to say what he did with some degree of truthfulness.

I get the feeling that most of the people asking that don't have want kids farking up their movie experience. Pure speculation though.

Agreed. Three kids myself. Would never take any of them to the theatre under 6 years old.

Doesn't matter here. Question why, sure. This is Fark however, so there will be people who somehow construe the baby being there as meaning it's the parents fault the kid got shot.

freewill: Jim from Saint Paul: I would assume the 3 month old was there because they couldn't get a babysitter, didn't want to just leave the kid at home and the kid was a heavy sleeper.

Not to get into a fight about it, but I think you're missing the obvious alternative, "not going", which really carries no significant or life-altering drawbacks.

Having a kid doesn't mean giving up your life, but I don't think people are being unreasonable to assume that it involves some minor sacrifices, like not going to a movie at midnight.

steamingpile: tinfoil-hat maggie: Damn, what the hell is wrong with people.

Obviously its because of guns, ban them and everything will be great.

If the others in the theater had guns, do you think they would have made the situation better or worse?

Remember, they were in the dark, probably blinded by tear gas, and had at least 300 people screaming around them and climbing over each other to get through 2 very small exits.

Unless the guns this guy had were obtained illegally or through gun show loopholes, there isn't a gun control debate on this right now, so you can save your talking points.

Close2TheEdge: Are you kidding? The Internet virtually ASSURES that it will get national news attention.

"it" what? "It" some journalist who has to earn his/her pay and write the obligatory "why do we like to be entertained by violence" piece for the millionth time? There is only already one on Drudge.

If you mean "it" some fringe religious person is going to be invited on national news to say this nut was really an average person that was tempted by the evil in this film, I really doubt it, because not only is that a retarded argument, it isn't even the reason this person did this. I can tell you without even knowing the reason, it wasn't because of Satan.

Besides the fact that the child should not be there, exposing infants to 90db+ intentionally for your own entertainment should be considered child abuse.

2012-07-20 07:55:58 AM

thejoyofpi: ChaoticCoyote: My guess? The shooter is someone who's fixated on Bane's "message" of class warfare.

Too damned many parallels.

Aurora, CO hardly sounds like an enclave of the wealthy. Most are describing it as a mall in a heavily minority area.

He should have taken out a movie theater in Aspen if that was his motive.

True. I have heard a lot of rhetoric from assholes about the movie's message, but most of those people are nitwits who don't know which end of a gun to point at a target. Aurora is pretty much lower-middle class, unless it's changed since I lived in Denver.

In the darkness, smoke, panic, and confusion it is far more likely that you would have added to the death toll, not reduced it. If you are that afraid to go out in public it would probably be best just to stay home.

You think all these people did something to this guy? No way. He randomly chose to attack a theater full of strangers.

There are no gun show loopholes. These things don't exist - it's a false talking point made up by people who think they know better than you about what you can and cannot own.

Perhaps you'd like to point out where I'm incorrect then. Are guns not designed to kill people? Keep in mind we're talking about hand guns and semi/automatic weapons here, not long guns (which could be used for hunting). They're designed solely for use on people, with the intent to harm/kill.

So what part am I wrong about?
