stuffer: Darkraven: I'm confused.

They say he had a rifle and a handgun now?

A shotgun makes sense. But a rifle? Handgun? How do you accomplish mass shooting like that, in a dark theater, in a short amount of time, with a rifle and a handgun?

once you start shooting, I bet muzzle flash lights things up pretty good.

Actually, it blinds you more than helps you.

However, in a crowded environment like that, you don't really have to aim much. With a semiautomatic, which I am assuming these both are, you just point it in the general direction and keep pulling the trigger. Sadly, it would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

thejoyofpi: JustinCase: Gyrfalcon: JustinCase: Greywar: Reports are that the perp in custody was wearing body armor.

That's what I head shots are for...

Yeah, too bad for us all it was a) dark and b) the guy surrendered when the cops got there.

A head shot is not a workaround for body armor?

What if the "perp" had other associates - maybe he was working for some domestic terrorist group - and interrogating him might lead to good intelligence about those networks? You still want the cops to fulfill your "boom! headshot!" adolescent wet dreams?

Oh good grief. Chill.

Darkraven: doglover: Darkraven: A shotgun makes sense. But a rifle? Handgun? How do you accomplish mass shooting like that, in a dark theater, in a short amount of time, with a rifle and a handgun?

I don't play video games. I was on a rifle squad for years. Granted, I used some cheap ass guns, but the principle is the same.

My point is, dark theater, you have to aim at shiat and actually shoot your target. And yes, you do have to reload, which takes time.

A shotgun, you aim at nothing, hit a ton of people.

I feel like the media misquoted and am willing to bet it was a shotgun.

I bet you could take out a bunch of people in the dark with an assault rifle

2012-07-20 06:56:45 AM
So all the people who, in a gun thread, say that guns are needed to protect people from exactly this sort of thing, where are the masses of statistics showing where an armed member of the public has saved people from being killed by stopping an incident by using their gun.

I bet there are more cases of a martial arts instructor doing so.

Ban guns, make martial arts compulsary.

swahnhennessy: Gyrfalcon: stoli n coke: 20 miles from Littleton?

I have to ask. WTF is wrong with Colorado?"

It is the most liberal fascist state I've ever encountered. Seriously, it's full of 30-something white hippies who like gunz & Jeezus but are proud of how environmentally conscious they are. Truly bizarre.

Actually, being from Colorado I can assure you that it is very right-libertarian. Sure, you've got places like Boulder and plenty of granola enclaves in the place, but I'd hardly call Colorado liberal. It's run by ranchers, for god's sake.

Not to mention Colorado Springs which I believe is pretty much fundie central.

TommyymmoT: According to these retards, he was sitting in the theater, just waiting for the movie to start before he stood up, and just started shooting, as if nobody would notice somebody sitting next to them full riot gear, with helmet and gas mask, and multiple assault weapons.

LOL, you can't be serious.

Fundie reaction to 9/11: Link

9/11 wasn't a movie and in that segment Falwell is actually blaming segments of America, erroneously of course. How that reaction automatically means fundamentalists will take a movie about very clear cut "good guys" and "bad guys" and then say, "anytime you have a movie with a good guy and a bad guy real life violence will happen," is beyond me. But if in fact some fundy wants to say that fictional violence causes violence....oh wait it's the left that wants to restrict violent video games.

You are now doomed to be an an awful series of movies that should have been limited to one decent hour long X-Files episode.

You don't think two of the victims were wealthy socialites with a kid do you? I mean for something like that to happen to a kid could have damaging effects on his psyche, especially if he saw it happen. He might harbor a deep hatred for the underworld (and guns) and want to take action. He'd want to transform into a symbol that'll strike fear into the heart of criminals.

Maybe he'd use his wealth to become a silent guardian, a watchful protector, a Dark Knight.

EatenTheSun: Close2TheEdge: USP .45: Since it's a given this dude is a nut, you have to then consider the number of people that have seen a Dark Knight film v. the number of listeners of Rush Limbaugh. It doens't even compare.

Let me speculate that this nut is roleplaying one of the Joker's henchman and is doing exactly what the Joker would do - cause mayhem.

Unfortunately, that will play into some fundie Christian's alking points. They will bemoan the breakdown of morality and decency in society, as exemplified by the sick fantasies of some 24 year old. Throw in a few jabs at "liberal Hollywood" and voila, tailor made splooge material for the Hannity listening crowd.

Really? Seems more likely to play into the talking points of those involved with the upcoming U.N. firearms treaty.

That's the magic of horrific violent acts like this. Everybody can twist it to support their own paranoid theory.

Cyno01: Soiled Underwear: It's gonna suck if they start patting down everyone at theaters now.

That would kill the theater industry soooo quick... if i have to get across the country i dont have much option but to fly, i have to put up with being molested unfortunately. If i want to watch a movie... i cant wait a few months and watch it on my hdtv w/ surround sound. Yeah i prefer the theater for certain types of movies, but if i have to get searched and cant sneak snacks in anymore, no thanks.

Little infants like that are likely to sleep right through a movie and if not, you can give them a bottle and they're likely to drink that and pass back out. It isn't that uncommon really.

Sir Cumference the Flatulent: They just interviewed an eyewitness: "It was just like something you would see in a movie."

Well, duh.

In a way that speaks volumes. Whenever someone tries to make e argument that our violent culture might stem from the media we consume, be it video games or movies where people are slayed by the thousands, that argument gets shouted down as impossible, everybody can tell the difference between reality and fiction. Yet their first thought was that it was like a movie.

We have big problems. How about using your head and not trying to immediately shout down potential solutions? Freedom isn't free, be it the 2nd Amendment right to have weapons, the 1st Amendment right to say whatever you want, or any of the other ones. Think of the consequences of your ideology, all of you.

yes, I deny the quote and I deny your defense of the quote. I'm sure soooome fundy nut out there will be so silly as to say ANY depiction of violence, even when it's is a story of the good guys winning over evil "caused" this. As for major media attention of such claims? Nah, complete nonsense because it isn't a case where someone otherwise good was desensitized by Hollywood violence or any sort of societal trend.
