Wrong, During Obammer's first two years, the GOP couldn't obstruct anything. That's how we got stuck with Obamacare. During that time, the Republicans in the House were locked out of everything by Pelosi. The Senate was no better. The American people didn't like that, and removed gave the House to the R's, and will likely do the same with the Senate.

Oh, is that what we're pretending happened now. Got it.

It's never too soon to rewrite history.

In that case, I totally spent last night with Jessica Biel and Scarlett Johanson

It's not my problem that the Republicans want to lower taxes and get the government out of my life, and meanwhile, all the Democrats can offer are shallow talking points.

For those of you playing along at home, this is true Irony - you do NOT need to take a drink right now.

This is something I would email my congress members about but they are democrats anyway. This is the first step to destroying NC/AFTA. We need to do away with that stupid bullcrap.

Johnnyknox: "The Bring Jobs Home Act would provide a 20% tax break for the costs of moving jobs back to the United States..."

Awesome! I can save 20% on the taxes...on a one time expense...and then get my ass kicked by moving back to a nation that has become openly hostile to business!

Call U-Haul, Sergi!!!

Openly hostile? It was the finger in the butthole during the third federally mandated blowjob after lunch, wasn't it?

Too bad the Democrats are pussies and will let the GOP do what they want when they gain power again.

Sometime today, I'm going to draft a letter to every sitting elected Republican in Congress. I'm going to use polite yet very terse language.

And I'm going to explain to them, probably with very small words so they understand it, that I will no longer support the Republican party until these asshats are out of office.

The idea of watching the country burn just because you don't like the guy who was elected by the people of this country to lead it, is just jackassery at its finest.

Likewise, immediately after election day (I don't want to fark up my voter registration), I'm quitting the GOP.

Assholes.

All of them.

(Except for the four who voted to allow this.)

What plans are those? You should be able to provide all kinds of cites and facts considering how many plans Romney has put forth.

Difficulty: Tax cuts for wealthy people has been tried for the last 30 years.

So your argument is for three years that ACORN didn't exist, including years that Obama introduced his plans to help the middle class, that it was all imagined, he didn't really get his projects filibustered, and he was channeling the money through some sort of time machine back to when ACORN did exist?

Serious question... Why give up whenever a filibuster is threatened? Why not make the GOP go through with it? Sure, it will waste a day or two of voting against ACA.

But imagine this. A Mr. Smith Goes to Washington type filibuster who be all over the news. The news would have to report that the GOP is against this bill. That would be beautiful. Everyone out there would see that the GOP is not about creating jobs and lowering taxes.

1) There is no longer such a thing as the "Mr. Smith" type of filibuster. There hasn't been in quite some time. Senate procedures pretty much dictate that you need 60 votes (not a majority) to move something through the Senate due to current filibuster rules.

2) There was a vote to move this bill forward and it failed. 58 votes were not enough to succeed because 58 out of 100 is no longer a "majority" in the Senate.

3) You should take the advice Impending Cynic had in the reply you responded to.

Rough Draft #2:

usdailyreview.com
...but you know what? To hell with them.
We have been working diligently to right the course of this nation to avoid a crash of disastrous proportions. We're trying to do good for the country, while all this time these Republicans politicians are blocking everything... everything... in order to to aim us back, straight towards that proverbial iceberg. Republicans in the highest ranks have said, in no unequivocal terms, that their single goal--their only goal... is to make me a one term president. However, to achieve this goal... to take down one person... they aren't just attacking me. They aren't just attacking Democratic politicians, obstructing the government process while hurling the most vile of accusations. No. They are attacking the American people. They are attacking American jobs, they are attacking the American economy, they are attacking this great nation itself... for the sole purpose of political gain. At this point we can only hope... that the citizens of this great country... that the American voters... rise up to defend America... to defend America from these attackers, because if we don't, they could very well have their way. They could very well succeed in their goal... to destroy this great Nation.
Again I say... to hell with them.
Thank you.
Good night.

Here's the biggest problem with all of this - Republicans like outsourcing because it's more profitable for short-sighted businesses to do it.

They quasi-pretend like they're against it during major election cycles, but that's about it.

Remember, at least 50% of GOP election strategy involves conning rubes into voting against their self-interests.

Tax incentives for DOING something is what I have wanted to see happen for a long time now. I know this bill won't help every business in America, but damn it, even if it brought 50 jobs back to the U.S. how could that hurt?

AdolfOliverPanties: Today's GOP is the greatest threat the United States has ever faced.

Every time you post this, I have always chuckled and moved on. I try to be moderate and see both sides and their points. Simple playbook it seems. Obstruct through the election. Hope to squeak out a victory in November. (I fear it's going to be close, regardless of the electoral map - and the GOPers wouldn't throw all this $$$ into the campaign if they didn't think they had a shot). Then, pass the bills Obama introduced, tacking on the ACA repeal and such. Wait for unemployment to go down. Take credit. Carry on more illicit hetero and homosexual affairs.

Simple.

Easy, prepackage all the "food" into microwavable pre-packaged combo units. Boom done, no more cooks just counter staff who take your order, pick a packet up, microwave it and give it to you. Naturally the "cooking" and packaging will be done off shore to save money on labor, probably some where in Thialand or Cambodia.

The first question out of your mouth whenever somebody makes a political statement should always be "But why"? When you were 3, this is the most important (and annoying) question that was always why. Never stop! It may not change your opinion on anything. But, if there is anything that I have learned in my 15+ years in IT support, it is that you should always try and get to the root cause of an issue. Sure, a reboot will make the problem go away, but it doesn't really fix the problem. Take the time and figure out why it stopped working.

Political statement: "Mr. President, unemployment is still high, and you haven't done anything to fix it".

I have never lost the 3 year old in me, so I am still asking why. This article clearly shows why.

Talking about the mistakes that were made in the past is not placing blame, it is doing a root cause analysis. Talking about the Republican Party blocking votes to take a bathroom break is not placing blame, it is doing a root cause analysis. The answer on why the President hasn't been able to get more done is more telling then the statements on what he has been able to get done....

killro: I still have faith that Republicans could someday try and help, but not today.

Out of curiosity - what have you seen them do in the last three years to give you that hope?

Holding the economic future of the country hostage over the debt ceiling?
Dividing the country against a healthcare reform for political gain. A reform almost entirely based on what the GOP had spent twenty years promoting?
The highest ranking Republican in the house proudly saying "our number one priority is to make sure Obama is a one term president" at a time when unemployment was at 9.4%
Demanding cut after cut to severely underfunded domestic programs to shut down agencies or activities they don't like while threatening another government shutdown if the bloated defense budget is cut in the slightest?
Over 3 years of total obstructionism at a level we have never seen in this country that now requires 60 votes to pass any legislation in the senate?

i don't think food prep is a very big part of mcdonalds' unit cost. certainly not enough to justify shipping all of the ingredients to asia and then shipping them back in microwavable packets.

Not quite. There's no difference between a filibuster and normal debate. Unlike the House of Representatives, which has rules on how long debate on a bill is and how long each member has to speak (if you've ever watched C-SPAN, that's what all that "I yield the balance of my time" nonsense is), the Senate allows any senator to speak as long as they want. The Senate also can't vote on a bill unless debate on the bill has ended. The mechanism to shut off debate is a cloture motion, which if objected to (and it always is) requires 60 votes to pass. If the cloture motion fails to pass, debate is allowed to continue, and the bill in question can't be voted on until the filibustering senator decides to stop filibustering, which is never since the filibustering senator doesn't have to actually do anything.

It doesn't matter what has happened in the past. It's only the narrative as told by Fox News that matters nowadays. Here's an actual discussion I had this morning with my step-father:

News station: Obama to speak about Colorado shooting tragedy
Him: Oh great. Obama's just going to use this as an excuse to take away all our guns.
Me: You keep saying that, but he hasn't done anything of the sort.
Him: But you know he wants to.
Me: The only candidate in the fall that has signed legislation limiting gun ownership is Romney, when he was governor.
Him: That's not true. He didn't do anything to limit ownership, just how they're bought. Obama is in league with the UN to take away all our guns once he's re-elected.

You have no idea how frequent, and frustrating, discussions like this are. With the amount of revisionist history and outright lies by Fox News (which is the only news he will watch), a large portion of our country believes in a fabricated reality. It makes honest and open political discussion completely impossible.

It didn't. It just shows me that the democrats tried to score some political points with legislation that didn't even solve the real issue. Then, when people didn't like it and and voted in reps that would vote against it they couldn't see that it wasn't what the people wanted and managed to force it though with procedural bullcrap. The hubris displayed during that entire thing was astounding. The only thing about the law I dislike is the individual mandate, everything else at least helps some people. I just think that it doesn't help the root cause of the problem and will lead to bigger issues down the road.
