Goodnight, funny man.

Nice one, there #1, we should be so lucky.

Davis was pretty funny in 'Trading Places'.

Franken on the other hand, not so much and when his ability to be funny failed him he ran for the Senate and used rampant voter fraud aided by Minnesota's Secretary of State to steal the election.

How? Rule changes in mid-recount as well as several hundred votes found in polling bags that conveniently showed up as the re-count progressed.

Throat and neck cancer. Smoking I assume. Even more sad.

He smoked a ton of pot and did lots of coke and heroin but I don't know if he actually smoked cigarettes.

I can heartily recommend his book. It's the best SNL autobiography and it's an excellent look at the 60s from someone who was in the thick of it. He was a talented guy and I'm glad he and Al had patched up their differences. Also their movie "One Saturday Night" was an underrated 80s gem.

"I wake up in the morning, delighted to be waking up, read, write, feed the birds, watch sports on TV, accepting the fact that in the foreseeable future I will be a dead person. I want to remind you that dead people are people too.... We're all going to try it sometime. Fortunately for me, I have always enjoyed mystery and solitude."

I want to read more

Meh, one of the more revealing lines(double-entendres?) in the SNL oral history is "jokes about cancer cease to be funny when your friends start getting it". This thread is a eulogy to the author of "The Brain Tumor Comedian". WelcomeToFark.jpeg

I read it too, hoping, as the subtitle said, to learn about "The Early Days of SNL from Someone Who Was There"; what I got instead was 300-odd pages of Davis rambling about his prodigious drug abuse.

And those were some of the best parts. I also enjoyed Al Franken telling Henry Kissinger's secretary to go fark themselves when they called for Rolling Stones' SNL tickets for Henry's son.
