My brother Steven was diagnosed with Leukemia a while back but was lucky enough to find a stem cell donor and received those stem cells at MD Anderson down in Houston, TX a couple of months ago. He was doing really good but developed stage 4 lymphoma last week. He seems to be doing a lot better right now but I am asking for financial help for them. He is married with a 5 month old daughter and has been unable to work since the transplant. His wife has also found it really hard to work and at the same time, they are having to pay rent on an apartment in Houston, TX as well as their normal mortgage. Their goal right now is $3000. They are halfway there but could use our help. Please give anything you can. Everything helps. It's hard for me to ask for this but I want to do something more than I am capable of. You don't know me but please help a fellow Farker's family. Thank you.

I expected to hear them asking for $30,000, not $3,000.

I can certainly kick in a few bucks.

Are you saying you want to somehow make this funny? I can Google some cancer jokes if you want, but I don't know, that's kind of sick really.

Is there a PayPal account or some details?

I don't really want to make this funny... I would just like to see it greenlit. They are not asking for much just enough for them to get by for the next month. I have done all that I can exept for Fark.

I'll help: you don't pluralize with an apostrophe.

Ok, I'm in.

I do not have the debit card on me at the moment but will add some to the pot as soon as I get home today. I would like to add that as someone who has gone through the cancer I am wishing for the speedy recovery of the brother of you. MD Anderson is the absolutely wonderful place; moving from the south to the Northeast, if I must undergo further treatment I would not hesitate for the moment to get the happy ass of me to Houston. He is in good hands.

By the way one of the favorite parts of getting chemotherapy--which were not many--were the cancer jokes. People who are going through this can put up quite the wall. It seriously impacts the family more than the person going through this.

Forsooth!

God doesn't think he's a Doctor!

Cancer.

I would also be interested in donating diapers, toys etc. for the little one if that's needed.

Done. Best wishes to your brother. Really hope he gets better.

Actually I can't help at all. Paypal won't accept my credit card. I don't know why and that is the only way to donate. If you come up with another way send me a message and I'll donate. Maybe try another site like cloudrise?

2012-07-20 10:07:47 AM
I would need to know if he votes Republican or Democrat first - if Repub. then this is what we are all headed for under them and he is on his own. If Dem. them I will chip in.

2012-07-20 10:08:20 AM
That should be crowdrise. It allows donations through Amazon.

2012-07-20 10:08:49 AM
Donated.

Hoping for the best for you and your family.

I am broke and what little my ex deems to not try and extort from me barely makes ends meet.
And yet, this comes very much home for me. Lost too many of my family, friends and pets to this POS killer.
As inconvenient as my life gets I am not rowing the same boat as this man, not by a galactic measure.
I will send something, and get my ass to my chosen house of worship to plead with whatever entity will hear me to give this man a break.

Damn cancer to hell. Why can't it just go DIAF.

Your brother didn't develop leukemia. Someone else developed that for him.

I will be donating money. I worked in a BMT Clinic, and I know I don't have the balls to go through the treatment if it ever happened to me. Seeing kids bravely suffer through it was always heartbreaking.

On the donation page, it says the treatment resulted in Lymphoma. That's now how that works.

Cleaned the mold off the side of my house AND donated a few bucks to a random stranger. I have done my good deeds for the day. I'll be in my bunk.

Just gave $50. My wife is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, So I know what it's like.

I can't get from the "Donate" button to PayPal. Fundrazr just hangs at the "connecting to PayPal" part. Got a direct link to the PayPal account?

I am not sure how to make cancer funny,

What you do is put together a montage of clips showing people going through chemo and speed it up about 25%. Then you play the Benny Hill theme song in the background (I believe it's called "Yakkity Sax").
After you get all that together, you punctuate all of the needle sticks with a laugh track.
Done.
NEXT!

Can't give much, but a few is better than zero.

2012-07-20 11:02:02 AM
Wish I could give more for them than I did. I know MD Anderson's good at what they do, so hopefully he'll do okay.

I'm sure there are a lot of farkers outside of the US who, like me, are baffled and horrified that the richest country in the world puts many of its citizens in a position where they have to ask for handouts when they get sick.

The rest of the modern world has universal health care pretty much figured out FFS. This is depressing.

Best of luck to this family, I hope it all works out for you.
