The boys are so happy to have the hubby home! They've been flitting in and out of the room all night, curling up on the edge of the bed for scritches. Look at these smiling faces.

Also: domari, I am convinced anyone who hurts a cat or any animal has no soul. There, I said it. You do very good work, my friend. I can only aspire to do anything that matters with my life!

Any advice on getting to jump up to the shelf where her food bowl is? The food is up high to keep the dogs out. I have put her up on the shelf the last couple days so she knows where it is, and i figure I'm just going to have to listen to a VERY talkative cat until she figures it out.

Bathia_Mapes: domari: Sorry to hear about the kitties not doing well or have crossed over to the other side. Many old cats who have had a long life filled with love and good care.

It's been another crazy week in the land of Little Mews. Kitten season is slowing down. Not many newborns, now is the time for the spring kittens to need homes, and to be thrown away by ignorant morons who refuse to spay/neuter. Cats who had kittens in the spring are now pregnant with the next litter. Never ending cycle, every year. When will people ever learn?

This week we took in a young adult cat, found hanging around the county office building. She has a huge swollen area on it's head, so swollen it's eye appears sunken in. There's a hole on the side of her face too. The cat is thin, looks terrible, but very sweet and friendly, the employees felt sorry for her and wanted to help her but didn't know who to call.

The county we live in has no help for cats. The SPCA or county doesn't have a humane officer. Animal Control officers only pick up stray dogs. The employees called the police dept to see if they could help. Two officers showed up in two cars, one was a k9 cop. When the officers arrived around 8 county employees were outside and heard the officers say "Why don't you just kick it in the head?" and the K-9 unit "I ought to just let my dog loose and let him deal with it". The employees were shocked to hear that coming from police officers, especially the k9....

That's some fine police work there, Lou.

F**king cops.

What a pack of jerks! Why is it that police so often make a situation worse?
I hope they're reprimanded.

I swallowed a cat, and now it's stuck!

Cat story, bro.

On my way out the door this morning, I was greeted by a little grey patchy kitty. She wasn't too shy and very sweet. I squatted down and held out my hand. She kind of reluctantly crept up. Once she got a sniff, she gave me head bonks and rolled around in my yard. She had a sweet little mew. Any ways, I went inside and grabbed her a hand full of food and a water dish. I hope she sticks around. I don't need another cat, but she had a saggy tummy. Not sure if fat (because the rest of her was kinda slim) or with kitties. If she keeps hanging around, I may take her to a vet. She didn't have a collar, but that didn't surprise me. There are loads of strays around my neighborhood.

He's coming over for a week during the last week of this month.
Mom and Dad are going on a cruise for their wedding anniversary.

Mr. Dinky is adorable. He can come stay with me for a week.

It sounds to me like she's with kittens. It would be nice if you could take her in, if you have a room you can give over to her. A pregnant mommy needs lots of nutrition, including kitten food. Good luck!

I'll keep an eye out for her. Other cats have had their kittens in the woods behind my house. The last time I found a litter and their mom, I brought food and water Went back inside to get a carrier or box to scoop them up and momma had already moved them. If I see her again, I'll try to snap a picture. She's a beautiful girl.

So sorry to hear about the passing of dear ones this week.

I have good news though, my special needs foster minpin Bob has found a home with a lovely lady from Canada! She will be coming by this afternoon to pick him up.

Here he is in my pants:

And here he is hasing a baff before meeting his new mommy for the first time:

My heart goes out to those of you that have had pets pass on this week. It is always a sad day when a beloved pet passes.
The only thing you can do is remember the time you had together. You will never have another just like the one that is now gone, but do not let that stop you from getting another, Neither let it rush you into getting another. all the pets I have had either found me, or I them when the time was right.

(dang it Jim! I had another thought i was about to type out, and he comes up bugging me for food. give him the food bowl and what does he do? curl up and lay down behind me without even eating a bite.)

I know some of you work for shelters (thank you for what you do!) and such, but i find mine outside the system so to speak.

Nunya was the first puppy i actually went looking for in years. that was after the passing of "Bull" a Shepard/husky mix that was lost and wandering on the interstate.

Spud belonged to a niece in Alabama, her boys didn't do anything with him because he is deaf. can't blame little boys for that, but he was neglected, and she knew i would give him a good home.

Jim is my wife's dog. Named after her father, and born just after/before he passed away. (also the only registered dog in the house. (He Growls at poop because he knows its bad to do in the house. lol)

Gracie (the Ghost, she's here but rarely seen) is a feral barn cat. likes being petted but not held, and then I'm about the only one that she trusts to do that. ( I also know that her time is getting short, though i hope it is a long time from now. i want to say she is about 12.)

Sassy is the new addition. Once she settles in, and the boys (dogs) figure out she is the boss. she will do just fine. right now though the boys are like a bunch of teenaged boys when they see a pretty girl. (there approach is all wrong, all gungho when they should just play it cool.)

Take the time you need to grieve, then go let your new friend find you. Trust me a new pet friend is looking for you right now wanting to fill that sad spot in your heart with happiness.

I will end by saying Thank you for the Welcome reception to Caturday.

(The message is from the heart, the typo's are from the fingers. If you have a problem with typo's I have two fingers you can take it up with. lol)

I'm going to call the police chief on Monday and see what he has to say about all this. I hope the county employees all followed through and filed a formal written complaint. Since I wasn't there to actually hear them say anything, not much more I can do for now.

FCC issued him the callsign KK4KOI (they live in Burlington KY just south of Cinti). Tho he'll get his late gradddad's callsign before too long, this is kind of lucky to start out with; KOI for Ky Oh & In. Club's called Oh-Ky-In, as Cinti's at the junction of those 3 states.

domari: Here's a couple photos of Pandora, our latest cat. Since the photos show her injuries which might gross out someone, I'll just post a link and you can decide if you'd like to click on it and see her face. She's such a great friendly cat, when cleaned up she'll make a wonderful companion.

Pandora Link
This one is a little more detailed Link
And a little video Link

I think she's beautiful! Looks like a bite that partially-healed with some abscess, but I'm sure she'll look wonderful when she's patched up a bit! If I didn't have six cats of my own and a given number of foster kittens at any time, I'd fly up to New York and take her in myself. (I shared the video with some cousins who live up there, maybe they'll want a Brave and Cuddly Survivor Cat.)

And that sort of anti-cat animal-cruelty BS would not last ten seconds down here where I am. There's a folk belief that since Robert E. Lee loved cats, harming one is an insult to the honor of The South; that and the crazy cat ladies here tend to be rather better armed and politically connected than the cat-haters. And with Southern Chivalry on their side, CCLs can pretty much do as they please when it comes to publically shaming animal abusers and those who make tasteless jokes on the subject. Nobody in this little Southern town seems to care if you're not white, openly gay or even of a faith other than Christian, if you're known as a friend to the local shelter, nothing else matters. Our little county barely has the money to keep the public schools open and up to federal standards, but you better believe we have two humane officers and an anti-lynching protocol in place when animal-abusers are arrested. Last time someone was caught holding dogfights (sometime in the '70s,) they had to have the Federal Marshals handle the arrest because the local cops didn't think they could guarantee the bastard's safety in custody.

I never thought I'd like it down here, but the Southern attitude to animals covers a multitude of sins.
