Jormungandr: Lurple: 24, and I doubt it'll go much higher... I just can't manage to levitate or summon the undead. Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Well, if they're going with the biblical definition of necromancy they mean talking to the dead and asking then about the future. That's where the "Catholics are necromancers" thing comes from, that and banging ones head on the wall repeatedly.

Hold up, Catholics can talk to the dead and ask about the future? Why didn't I learn this? :( Guess I should go to mass more often.

Marcus Aurelius: Good to know that Zoroastrianism is still OK.

Not only did he neglect Zoroastrianism, he completely failed to mention the timecube (which among many other fascinating things, establishes that Christianity is evil).

Best Wikipedia factoid: "Before Time Cube, Otis E. Ray advocated the sport of marbles."

So I guess he really HAS ----- *puts on shades*-------- lost his marbles.

Meh - the stupid does not discriminate. I've met plenty of moronic atheists.

Canton: But vegetarianism? How did that get there? It's evil not to kill animals for meat? Does this brand of Christianity demand blood sacrifice? Or what?

Actually, vegetarianism has been a controversial issue in Christianity since the beginning. Some people have argued that God commanded people to kill animals and eat meat (not just that we -can- but that we -should-). In the early Chuch (meaning after the death of Jesus, while Paul was alive and writing all his letters), vegetarianism was a controversial issue that split the church. Paul even wrote about it in the book of Romans.

Interestingly, the Wikipedia article on Christian vegetarianism has been trolled hard, so read it with more than the usual salt.

downstairs: spill_thrill: And has "cyberpunk culture" ever actually been a real thing anywhere?

Yeah, I kinda remember it in the 90's. It wasn't that big of a movement... but it was certainly separate from things like goth, geek culture, etc.

I remember people in college who specifically labeled themselves "cyberpunks". Kinda lame, but it existed.

Wow. Thanks for the information! I had no idea. I may just use the Wikipedia article as a portal. Plenty of external links there.

This seems pertinent, though:

6 Whoever regards one day as special does so to the Lord. Whoever eats meat does so to the Lord, for they give thanks to God; and whoever abstains does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.

But I am not Christian. This stuff is just interesting, even when it's freaking scary.

I've never understood why D&D (or roleplaying games in general) are considered 'evil' by the religious right....

They usually feature magic that is clearly a made-up fantasy and not reality and you get used to dealing with it.
Kids might look at other stories featuring magic and automatically put them in the same "it's a made-up fantasy" box.

And a comparatively lame fantasy to boot. I mean, come on: you're a godling, it takes you three days to respawn and you apparently don't have any decent offensive spells?
Heck, under the older edition ruleset you could get stuff like "Flesh to Stone" and nuke-like giant area-of-effect spells like"Slay Firstborns", "Hailstorm", "Cloud of Locusts" and so on.
Granted, it always seemed a tad unbalanced to me, but they went overboard reworking their rules and the newer edition turned out to be completely neutered and lame by comparison

.
/ teens might wonder what class and level you have to be to get a spell for turning water into booze...

cloud_van_dame: Nice how postmodernism follows lycanthropy on this list.

Most of these I get, but postmodernism? Satan like ugly buildings?

"We are as fascinated by Ramses as Renaissance Christians were by the American Indians, those (human?) beings who had never known the word of Christ. Thus, at the beginning of colonization, there was a moment of stupor and bewilderment before the very possibility of escaping the universal law of the Gospel. There were two possibilities: either admit that this Law was not universal, or exterminate the Indians to efface the evidence."- Jean Baudrillard

That Postmodernist is saying Christianity caused the genocide of the Indians!!! That is evil and Satanic, even if there's probably a lot of truth to the accusation.

Weaver95: I've never understood why D&D (or roleplaying games in general) are considered 'evil' by the religious right....

Any sort of roleplaying "encourages the practice of witchcraft" because pretending to cast spells is just a stepping stone to selling your soul to the devil and doing it for real. Or so I was told by the godawful (pun not intended) book from her church that my mom forced me to read, back in high school when she caught me with D&D books. Somehow I don't think a o_O face followed by "The fark was the guy that wrote THIS crap smoking?" was the response she was looking for.

Then there's my former cow-orker who pulled his 7th-grade daughter out of school and took on a second job to put her through wackjob fundie Baptist school because the public school English teacher wanted her to read Harry Potter.

tinfoil-hat maggie: Well if threesomes count for trilateralism and Playing Vampires the Masquerade counts as vampirism then I got 30

FYI, the definition of trilateralism:

1. The practice of engaging in three-party relations, agreements, or negotiations.
2. The political and economic policy of encouraging friendly relations among three nations or regions, especially the United States, Western Europe, and Japan, or North America, Europe, and the Pacific Rim.

I just signed a contract for my new car that involved myself, the car dealer, and the loan company. So I get this one without the threesome snark.

And I get another point if dressing up as a vampire for halloween counts, which puts me at 31 or 33.

I think we need a response from the judges.
