Been looking at the Nexus 7. Really like it, but wish it was expandable via Sd card. I'm not much a fan of all this cloud stuff.

Thinking of getting my mom one to replace her old Nook e-reader, as she said she wanted a tablet, and she already has an android phone. She also wants to replace her now aging netbook, so i'm in a toss up between the Nexus 7 or an ipad 3. The ipad is more useful, but twice the cost. the Nexus is easier to manage, and she can transfer all her nook content to it without issue.

I dont get people who suggest getting a controller for a hand held device... If you are sitting around and playing games with a controller, don't you have something like a computer or a gaming device that does that a hell of a lot better and with a respectable screen?

It's just separation anxiety. This is common when re-homing a piece of hardware.

Besides, it's not that big of a deal with the Nexus 7, as it's "significantly more repairable than the new iPad." This might even open up an easy way for people to customize their tablets with custom face plates. Meanwhile Apple's products are designed to be completely unserviceable by a user; if the face plate came loose on your iPad, it's probably time to buy a new one.

Yes, tablets can handle N64, and my particular tablet has more than a "respectable" screen. My TV does 1920x1080p. My iPad does 2048x1536.

WORST WIFI EVER!

Seriously, I have to get within 20' of the access point to get a stable connection. In my living room I might get 1 bar and drop occasionally while my laptops and phone get five bars.

Also, Google support specifically told me (I have email) that Nexus 7 will support the use of external storage through USB Host. Well, it looks like it doesn't.

It's a pity though; customizable enclosures would add some personality to the things.

I was planning on holding off on a tablet until the holiday season when some good Windows 8 deals might pop up, but lately the Galaxy and that iPad display have been calling my name... Does retina display really make that big a difference? There is a $100 price difference between the 2, and the iPad does lack SD card support IIRC.

I'll be called a fanboi by someone I'm sure, but yeah, the retina display made a huge difference to me, makes you realize how lazy LCD manufacturers have been, and hopefully forces everyone to start putting out quality displays. It's like night and day. If you can survive the smug you can visit a local Apple Store and decide for yourself.

I guess I don't really see the appeal of gaming at home on a tiny little screen so you can haul it around with you and set it up to game on a tiny screen in small bits throughout the day (and not really on the go because to use a controller you have to have somwhere where you can setup your tablet - I assume they have some kind of stand?).

I mean, I play snes emaulators on the train on my nexus, but the appeal to that is i can do it while standing up and holding the thing in my hand...

Then again I don't get the appeal of big tablets in general.. 7 Inch makes sense though, I might get one now that my kindles dying since its not that much more than buying a new kindle, is much more conveniently sized than the 10 inchers, and can run some other shiat other than just my books.

Don't worry, Asus will only charge you $50 to ship it back to them to fix their error. If you're lucky, they'll assemble the thing properly before shipping it back to you - unlike my brother's where loose screws ended up butchering the screen of his Asus netbook.
