My personal favorite is the original "not intended to be a factual statement". Unless one of our fine, upstanding Fark Republicans wants to explain how lying on the floor of Congress, claiming afterward that you knew it was a lie, and then going back and having your lie stricken from the official record is not a majorly douchey move.

VJStinger: tenpoundsofcheese: Cozret: tenpoundsofcheese: oh what a surprise, the left calling for a person's violent death because they don't like being exposed for the frauds that they are.

Sorry, no points.

got it.
you think it is okay to call for someone's violent death.

no surprise.

I in no way think its appropriate to advocate the murder of anyone for any reason. Now, with that said, I can comfortably say that if someone were to ventilate Mr. O'keefe's skull with a fire ax while whistling the 1812 overture... no tears would be shed this way.

Nope, I hope Rush, Hannity, etc get caught live on video having a sheep, horse, & octopus orgy while mainlining heroin into their scrotums, calling all of their supporters morons, praying to mecca, getting gay married, and collecting food stamps.

The last big example of treading on workers rights is probably Reagan firing the air traffic controllers. There was no violence, just a simple fark you, business is more important mentality.
.

Except that the ATC's were going against the law AND their contract (you know - the one they bargained for and agreed to with a majority vote). AND they were given the chance to keep their jobs in spite of BOTH - but they thought their "worker rights" trumped the law and their "agreed to" contract.

Turns out it didn't.

And the other reason that organized labor has dropped since the 30's is that 1. Labor law has been established to enforce many of the union won rights across the board (mostly for good I acknowledge - but that removes a lot of the incentives for workers to unionize AND 2. Companies realized that if they gave workers the same perks they would have gotten under collective bargaining (but w/o the strike threat). Thus workers see little marginal gain to join a union - and the dues are not worth whatever small gain there is.

Or yes, actually. Again.

So now that you've had a chance to watch the unedited video, do you care to retract your earlier support for Mr. O'Keefe and your disbelief that the video may have been edited to misrepresent the folks they pathetically tried to "sting"?

2012-07-19 01:09:42 PM
You know, I have reached a point where I am thoroughly convinced that tenpoundsofcheese cannot actually be serious. I have a few theories.

A. Performance Art - This is a complex form of method acting, where he delves into this persona in an attempt to explore a mindset alien to himself.
B. False Flag - He is actually a hardcore democrat. He could be doing this to make Republicans look bad. He may think he is performing a service by providing rational people with a method of addressing irrational argumentation.
C. Analysis - He is masking his true intent of riling up Democrats, encouraging them to explore a wider swath of possible arguments, and that information is used to shore up responses from some dark shadow league on the right.
D. Boredom/Mental Instability - Speaks for itself.

All of these sound far, FAR more plausible than tenpoundsofcheese being serious. I can't see a true believer ignoring the video evidence that directly and unequivicably proves that the video was edited to push an outright lie. Doing that would be contrary to his assumed desire, which is the success of Republicans in every possible manner. To represent himself as being that incredibly obtuse, to the point of appearing (as usual) that silly, it is against the best interests of the people he wishes to verbally support, his ideologies, and himself.

But don't mistake what I am saying, ten. I might get a bit of wharrrrgarbl for feeding you, but I legitimately enjoy your appearances here. I anticipate them. They bring me a singular joy that is only matched by Skinny. It's a comedy of errors, and you just keep plugging away like the little engine that could. The tenacity and dedication to consistency is something to admire. I consider myself a fan, man. Kudos.

Someone needs to get around to suing this asshat for defamation. If the Republicans had ANY credibility left, they would do it, because he would be damaging their credibility, but since they have none, he's not really doing them any more harm than they've done themselves. Really, they need to get everyone associated with ACORN, everyone associated with the union(s) represented in this video, and everyone involved in the election that he attempted fraud at to get together and form a class action against him. It wouldn't shut him up, but it would at least redistribute is wealth to the people he has harmed with this stupid crap.

Seriously, watch his own timecode at the bottom. They are presenting this as a continuous conversation, but really, it jumps back and forth as much as a half an hour between one statement and the next, and THEN will go back a half an hour for the next statement. Funny thing is, his timecode at the top presents this as continuous, no matter how much the actually time stamp jumps around. He's not even trying to hide it anymore.

ChimpMitten: My local paper did a story on this yesterday.
Link

Ron Tocci said the three labor officials (he is a dues-paying member of the union) had given the "kids" an audience because they had called and been referred from a New Jersey contact. He said the union officials determined after the meeting that they were scammers or too unsophisticated to ever get a grant. "My brother and I said this must be a scam. We told them we want them to see their principle," Tocci said. "It's all BS." He said he told them they needed to evolve and can't be just digging holes and suggested doing dirt cleaning or remediation of brown fields.

"We figured they were shysters," said Tocci, an assemblyman for 20 years until becoming commissioner of Veteran Affairs from 2005 to 2007. "We tried to be courteous. They were young kids; first thing that comes to mind is that its young idealists, like Occupy Wall Street. We sized it up even half-way through the meeting when they couldn't explain what they did with the dirt." He did not know about being featured in O'Keefe's project until being contacted by a reporter Wednesday morning. The union leaders, he said, never took the pitch too seriously because it didn't add up.

I also love the time stamps on the video. Is that so they can't be sued for exchanges like this?

[time stamp: 5878] Operative: We've just been digging the ditches, then we dig the ditch, we take the dirt, and we put the dirt, we actually just take the dirt and we put it right back in the ground.

[time stamp: 21432] Labor Guy: It sounds like, it almost is exactly the same as where we were with Green Jobs Green New York.

Yet, if you look at the time stamp in the bottom, it jumps half an hour in either direction between comments.

Death_Poot: It's too bad though that his targets provide him with an abundance of shennanigans to choose from, it makes it too easy.

Yes, it's like that episode of Chuck in which the intrepid hero fools the villain into saying each of the words of his voice-print passcode in conversation in order to unlock the secret computer files thingy and quickly recuts the words to the Stalin quote into a a semi-natural reconstruction to access all of the villain's files and finally get him to justice. Because that's what it takes to fight this depth of evil.

Or, better still, it's like the clip that plays when Smithers's computer starts up-- totally legitimate. After all, it's in awkward and clearly edited speech sequence, so it must be real.

Or, yeah, it's like that time President Obama used secret FTL wardrobe and venue changes in order to perform "Call Me Maybe." Or maybe he had secret access to time travel and knew the song would be popular in the summer of 2012, so he specifically chose those words to use in his speeches in order to make compiling that video easier, just to look cool for the young voters. Either way, that totally happened. Whichever makes him look more ominous, that's what happened. It's like reality is a Choose Your Own Adventure for some of these cretins.

If you let people talk for long enough and steer the conversations in your desired directions, eventually someone will say something you can use out of context to bolster any point you later choose to have been making, if only because they'll eventually realise you're a harping moron not worth dignifying with a forceful ejection or a rudely abrupt departure, and they'll just let you roll. Because of this video's deceptive editing, I have no idea what prompted the bit about that green programme's being partly bulls&%t. I know it wasn't the prompt included in the video, but for all I know there was a 5-minute conversation about legitimate programmes with some strange-seeming elements which O'Keefe and his partner had been calling bulls&%t, and the Union guy just used the contextually established term and then immediately rescinded the phrasing and explained why the other programme was actually legit. Or maybe he was being completely honest and there was no breach of context. Or maybe he was making a joke. Or not. I don't know because the video was so clearly edited with intent to obfuscate and deceive, and so I have to assume that whatever did prompt that response was taken out of its proper context and the the proper context would have been less in line with O'Keefe's intent, and so I can therefore discount its apposition.

This video is an indictment of nothing but O'Keefe's sleazy and inept pathological desire to score points off people considered his opponents without having the decency to offer them the opportunity to respond to his actual and easily-answered questions because he deeply and mistakenly "knows," with every fibre of his being, that everything he hears with which he disagrees or that he doesn't already know is an outright lie. It's pathetic, it's appalling, and it's incredibly dim. I'm profoundly disappointed that people keep getting taken in by this garbage.

I just love the idea that O'Keefe gets a cubicle job and settles down with some poor woman and has a kid and his rape dildo boat sits in the driveway for decades. On the weekend, Jimmy sits in his rape dildo boat and polishes the dildoes as his ten-year-old boy asks if he can help. Jimmy pulls the kid aboard and teaches him about life. "You know, son. A man needs to have a dream. A little piece of paradise he can call his own..."

I'm just saying that, after the ACORN thing, that people should be more wary of stuff like this, these organizations end up saying stupid stuff that can easily be taken out of context.

Whether or not there's corruption there, for the purposes of what I was pointing out, is irrelevant. I personally don't care.

2012-07-19 03:43:14 PM
I actually watched the video and the union people did not suggest or endorse O'Keefe's ridiculous fictional front company. They merely agreed that politicians grandstand and claim that they created jobs by setting up grants for projects described as environmental projects. Even if the union folks think the projects are b.s., they will support the projects and provide workers. There is nothing odd about these statements at all. The only thing odd is O'Keefe's stupid idea for the fictional company he imagined.

This video doesn't bust anybody about anything. It is no more relevant than whatever is the top video on Youtube today. It is also likely less entertaining.

Of course not. They are far, far worse. This isn't Tu Quoque, it's a matter of evaluating Scope, Frequency and Degree.

And you had no response the last time I posted this, so I'll do it again. Watch it, see how many different people repeated it, look it up in the print media, The Washington Examiner had three Op-Eds in a single issue, the capper being Cal Thomas's declaration that this was the sign that Obama was now "Emperor".

Watch this, you got-damn fool:

If six-odd minutes is too much of your valuable time, start at 3:30

The Right wing dwarfs anything done by the Left, by orders of magnitude.

Get your head out of your ass and look around you.

ongbok: What the hell is up with the time stamp in that video? It keeps jumping around, getting blurred, and disappearing. How could anybody take a video that the time stamp is so obviously hinky seriously?

Have you SEEN the crap that Fox News puts out there?

It is kind of interesting that News Corp owned Direct TV has practically dropped all Viacom channels, including Comedy Central, which host the Daily Show.

coeyagi: OneTimed: It says alot about the current GOP that they hail this moron as some sort of hero of journalism. Of course, these also thought the same thing about Breitfart.

/O'Keefe looks like he's +1 chromosome

He's just got the Triforce, man, watch out!

OK man, I've been trying to figure out what I should put as your quote for my faves list. This should do nicely.
