It's not earmarked specifically for terminally ill children. Make A Wish wants to send her. He just doesn't want his ex-wife and daughter to go on a nice vacation together. Despite the 2 yrs his daughter spent struggling to overcome her cancer. What a jacka$$!

I wish I had a spare $3500.

/Then I would go to Disney.

The father, however, blames McKenna's mother and grandmother for keeping him from seeing his daughter. "I wasn't allowed to be involved," May said. "It ticked me off."

Way to get back at the adults, you f*cking douchebag

/I hope you get hit by a speeding semi

Treating your children like pawns in a pathetic battle between exes is likely to give them cancer.

DIAF, Bad Dad.

Something tells me this kid is going to get her dream trip after all, and it'll be even better than it would have been under the original plan.

Something also tells me that Mom had a good reason for wanting to keep that sh*theel away from their daughter, although I'm generally in favor of fathers being treated equally with regard to child custody.

tin_man: BURN HIM AT THE STAKE FOR SUGGESTING OTHER CHILDREN MIGHT BE BETTER RECIPIENTS WHAT AN AWFUL HUMAN BEING!!

Methinks you missed the point. She's not considered "cancer-free" for five years, and you don't have to be on death's door to get a wish in the first place. So she's just as worthy of getting this trip as another child would be, and with what we know of the backstory with the parents, it's very likely the father put the kibosh on this to get back at his ex-wife, which has nothing to do with the child.

Did you read the part where he admitted doing it because he was, in his words, "pissed off"?

The Make-A-Wish foundation determined that the kid qualified, after she endured two years of extremely painful medical tests and procedures related to her leukemia. It's not up to the sire to make that call, and by his own admission, he did it out of revenge.

If it's not up to him to make that call, how did he make that call?

If this was an article about a little girl who died never receiving her wish because this girl got to go to Disneyworld or wherever even though she was in remission the masses would be calling for her house to be burned down.

He's a dick.

It doesn't cost 3500 to visit Disney, though. (unless you live overseas). Hopefully Disney will step in for the PR and give them a free trip.

doesn't sound like the mother denying a father visitation rights OR the father then refusing to sign off on the trip are good people

Airfare, hotels, meals, tickets. I'd say $3500 is on the low side of a Disney World vacation for more than one child.

My ex wasn't always nice to me about my visitation. But I never would retaliate, especially if it impacted my son. Bad karma.

Given that this story will be on the internet for a looong time, someday this girl will learn that her father tried to keep her from going to Disney World just to get back at her mother, and will hate him for it.

After going through two years of cancer treatment that included spinal taps, chemotherapy and hospitalizations because of reactions to the treatments, McKenna's mother, Whitney Hughes, and grandmother, Lori Helppie, feel she they deserve the trip.

Let's collect money for ourselves! Oh and we'll bring along this 4-year-old too.

Hey, look, we've found the father's Fark account.

Either that, or there are two completely sociopathic, jealous, hateful, moronic, terrible fathers out there.

They should do what I reefer to as "Disney on the Cheap." I did it a few months ago, myself: you book a room at a hotel near Lake Buena Vista for like $60 a night, then you visit all the Disney resorts for free. We went to Wilderness Lodge, Boardwalk, had a great dinner at the Pioneer Buffet at River Wilderness, took free boat and tram rides, and had a great time at Downtown Disney. Total cost of the trip was like $200.

C'mon, dude. Yeah, the wimmins get to yank custody from us at their whim because they've got vaginas and are therefore automatically more fit to be parents. But if you take it out on the kid, you're not any better than she is. Don't play her game. Besides, if you were going to do this, you should have then offered to pony up the dough instead somehow.

We need a "douchebag" tag. Just make sure there are limits so it isn't overused in the politics tab.

"I think it should go to kids who only have six months to live," he told the Sentinel-Tribune of Bowling Green, Ohio.

No, f*ck those kids. Granny and mommy want to get their drank on with Goofy. Besides, if they're dying anyways, might as well give it to a kid who will keep ticking and buying more Disney(tm) products.

If Daddy doesn't want Make a Wish to send her to Disney, then he should cough of the cash himself.

Fark him for disappointing his little girl, to spite her mother. What a winner.

From experience:

Four roundtrip tickets from Chicago = $1500
Three nights at Animal Kingdom = $1250
Four three-day parkhoppers = $1200
Four days of food = $600
Four days of buying useless crap = $600

I know I spent over 5 g's back three years ago and I am doing it again this Christmas.

As a child of divorce, I would like to side with the mother here. What a douchenozzle move. I don't care what your custody dispute is about, let the farking kid go.

So they've pulled their family's request with Make-A-Wish and are placing collection jars around the community to raise the needed $3,500 to fund the trip on their own

So, the money is already there. Why do they need Make a Wish and Father Jerk to sign off on it? Pack up the Aerostar and head down to Mouseland.

Idea: Don't have kids unless you have known your spouse for over 5 years.

Another Idea: No matter how big of a biatch mommy is, never do something that ends up in the news. She could be Hitler, and you'll wish you were despised that little.

CSB: My mom would never drive me to see my dad for the weekend. He always drove 8 hours round trip just to see us. She wouldn't even drive 45 minutes out of town to drop us off at a McD's so we could eat after 9 pm, since my dad drove truck.

/parents suck

All the tags in the politics tab should just automatically default to "douchebag" just to save time. Plus, it's more honest this way.

Nope.

If you're talking just a handful of people, I could book a trip RIGHT NOW that would be well under that. Utilizing the current free dining promotion, the meals are a non-issue. Unless the travel will be super expensive or they're planning to take several members of the extended family they should be able to do it for well under that.

Sometimes visitation rights are denied for a reason. Maybe the guy's current behavior is an indication of how he treated his family in the past.

Either way, no matter how angry you are at your ex, you do not use your child to enact revenge.

2012-07-18 10:38:11 PM
His reasons might have been fueled by the wrong reasons, but he's right, IMHO. i think the whole point of Make A Wish was for kids who are dying, not ones who have recovered. There are 600 kids on Make A Wish's waiting list. Many won't live to see their wishes come true.

Dad's still a dick though.

You have to have a license to drive, fish, hunt, etc, etc.

But yet anybody can make more humans.....and keep making them no matter how bad they treat them or screw them up.

This douchebag in this story is probably out sewing seeds right now.
