skinink: So, general admission tickets for their Cincinnati show?

Funny, but unfortunately they're not playing here. I'm gonna have to take a minor road trip to see them, but luckily they're doing Columbus, Detroit, Chicago, Louisville, and Nashville, so one of those should work.

Quadrophenia Tour announced by what's left of The Who
I thought Watts was with the Stones.

I saw The Who a few years ago, and they were really freaking good. For guys my age, they are in excellent shape physically. Daltrey is in excellent shape for a guy half his age, actually. Dude is ripped, as they say. If you like their music, you won't be disappointed if you go see them.

Side note for Zappa fans:
I also just saw Dweezil in his Zappa Plays Zappa show, and was pretty impressed with how much he has matured musically as well as his treatment of Frank's music. I was prepared to be irritated by some coat-tail riding punk, and ended up being very, very pleased with what I heard and how it was presented.

Saw The Who for the first time at Poplar Creek - 1978.

I saw them perform Quadrophenia - at the Marcus Amphitheatre in Milwaukee....it was July 23rd 1997.

Both times were AWESOME!

i will make a marked effort to see them if/when they come to the dfw metroplex. the who is one of my favorite bands ever (and "behind blue eyes" just happened to start playing on 92.5 as i type this), and they are a huge inspiration on my favorite band to have formed in my lifetime...pearl jam!

i don't know who they have on bass...can't truly replace entwistle, but i know son-of-ringo must be pretty good on the drums...of course you can't truly replace moon either, but then again most people that crazy couldn't function as well as he did on stage anyway

Remember that hot girl you wanted in high school? Perfection in the flesh. Cool guys, stoners with crop haircuts, popular jocks, they all got to date her, and eventually get the goods from her. Time passes after high school and still no luck. You enjoy her from afar as older guys date it and run through it and though she's lost a little shine, she's still hot. More time passes, she's married, kids, aging, still a MILF but her husband is railing that. Still more time passes, finally you see her again in a bar. Past her prime, the face of a tired, aging woman. Teets sag towards her knees and still she wears a tank top. Cellulite and cheese on her thighs and ass, and still she wears a short skirt. You realize for a few natty lights you could finally pop her. And yet you can't. Not only is all the current appeal gone, but now you wont even be able to rub on out to the old memory because it is tarnished by what she has become; a faded, tired, worn out version of herself that needs to retire to a halfway house somewhere and relive the glory days in her mind, not for the world.

The Who is that girl. Seeing this band now jeopardizes every memory you have of them.

5:15 or The Real Me?

A friend of a friend was the drummer on Roger Daltrey's tour a few years ago. Got me to appreciate Daltrey as a solo act even if he was doing mostly Who stuff.

I remember an article about why the kept touring. Most of it centered on the fact that Pete had a great income from all the songs he wrote and Roger and John only made money when they toured. Very few people wanted to see their solo acts so they had to convince Pete to go out as the Who to make decent money to support their lifestyles. I think it was Roger joked that if they developed another CSI show and used a Who song that Pete might never be seen from again with all that money.

skynyrd i can't fathom paying much money for...isn't there like 1 original member? no thanks, gimme the other van zant and 38 special instead ("opened" for them about 10 years ago...very very solid performance...by "opened for", i mean our band played on a different stage at a fest shortly before they played on the main stage)

if queen tours with someone like adam lambert on the mic, i WILL go see them. will it be the same as it would've been with freddie? no. will it be a great rock show with incredibly talented performers? yes!

after watching the rock & roll h.o.f. induction this year, i vowed that if the original g'n'r would tour with miles kennedy on the mic i'd most definitely pay good money to see that, no matter what name they'd call themselves (axl would murder someone if they tried to bill themselves as g'n'r)

For the sake of Townshend and Daltrey, I'll be staying away from this one.

The first time I saw them in concert was just after Keith Moon had died. The second time was literally days after John Entwistle had died.

If I buy tickets for this tour, I will be putting Pete or Roger in mortal danger.

I couldn't do the Queen one, I like Queen for Freddie, not for a farking American Idol, and I'd never pay Freddie prices for non-Freddie. I would, however, see Myles, Slash, Duff, Izzy and whichever drummer could physically drum for them, if for no other reason than to spite the fark out of that fat bastard.

But the Who? Nope. I don't them enough for the triple-digit tickets they'll surely be charging at the (at least) four shows they're doing within two hours of me. And like I said already, I thought Daltrey sounded like crap at the Super Bowl, what's he gonna sound like by the time he makes that second swing through eastern New England?

I find interviews with Pete Townshend very interesting. Partially because he is a childhood hero of mine, but also because he is a very honest and intelligent man. Personally, I think Quadrophenia is the greatest rock album ever written, so I will bill inclined to see them. Even if it is the who minus two or whatever trendy/catchy/condescending name you apply to it. It's all about the music and the feelings they invoked once upon a time in my life.

GO TO THAT NEIL YOUNG & CRAZY HORSE SHOW!

about 10-12 years ago i saw, almost 1 year apart, neil young with crazy horse, and neil young with the booker t & the mgs band. 2 completely different shows, 2 INCREDIBLE shows! seriously worth every single penny i paid, plus the nearly passing out before the 2nd one was over

story of the 2nd show...it was at rock am ring, i do believe they were the headliner on the last night...? so, after spending all this time standing to see many many bands that weekend, i'm there with my friends watching neil young put on a great show. after a while i realize my legs will probably only hold me up long enough to get back to our campsite, so 2 or 3 of us went ahead an left. as we walked away with neil & co. still in full rockin' mode, i looked at my watch...they'd been playing for 2.5 hours and didn't seem close to stopping! usually even the headliner at these fests play 1.5 hours tops

2012-07-21 05:55:00 AM
I think they should have called it quits after this performance. Every time I've heard them since was lackluster.
