The FAIL tag has been overused, but not this time.

From the comments: "Let me guess - he's from Breitbart's Home for Little Unemployables?"

Awesome.

LOL! Hat tip to Schultz for exquisite restraint!

Am I the only one wishing she didn't let on right away that he was her husband?

That would have been a freakin' great exchange.

Reached by TPM, Schultz preferred not to name the reporter or publication.

Hey, if McCain can get heat for having a black child, this woman can take some heat for boffing a politician.

I am surprised you did not find a photo of me kissing U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown so hard he passes out from lack of oxygen.

He's really cute.

LOLOLOL!

//Smart too.

Funny reply, but she missed a golden opportunity to just say "no comment" and let them run the story.

If they're married, then their income is marital property. Said income may very well have been used to purchase contraceptives at some point. Ergo, our tax dollars are paying for them to have sex.

Somebody call Rush. He's got another slut to shame.

Ummm...so some reporter or maybe wanna-be reporter forgot to do their research. Why is this news? Happens all the time.

It could be argued that being married to a subject you report on is indeed overly cozy, assuming she actually reports about him without mentioning that he's her husband.

Vodka Zombie: Am I the only one wishing she didn't let on right away that he was her husband?

In order, I would have:

1) Strung him along as long as possible as you suggest to perhaps drag illegal (extortion?) activity out of him.
2) Dragged his and the blog's name through the mud in the most public way possible.
3) Simply admitted to an "affair" with the guy, hoping to bait the blog into running a huge story on it.
...
100) Done what this lady did.

Kudos to Connie Schultz, she is a significantly better person than I.

You know us liberal moms: I want to give him a chance to learn the right lessons from this, which isn't going to happen if I out him

Seriously, based on this alone, I wish she would run for public office. Don't care what her policies are, this is the kind of person we need running things.

farkityfarker: It could be argued that being married to a subject you report on is indeed overly cozy, assuming she actually reports about him without mentioning that he's her husband.

On September 19, 2011, Schultz again resigned from The Plain Dealer, having written in a note to colleagues that "in recent weeks, it has become painfully clear that my independence, professionally and personally, is possible only if I'm no longer writing for the newspaper that covers my husband's senate race on a daily basis".

Yeah, but this woman isn't running for anything, so that would be harder to compare. Snark needs to be kept simple.

I imagine the mouthbreathers will claim that she didn't share the name because she made the whole thing up. Fact is, she's a class act and so is her husband. Can't wait to vote for Sherrod in November. Like I'd vote for a kid named "Josh" who doesn't look old enough to shave.

Fun fact: More money has already been spent on this Senate race than in any other Senate race in Ohio's history. Karl Rove's group has commercials running on local TV almost constantly.

And I said "assuming...."

Lennavan answered my question (which wasn't phrased as a question, I realize.)

From reading the email exchange in the article, I was curious if it was true that this reporter was reporting about her husband.

To be fair members of the "elite media" are married with different last names. How's a tea bragger supposed to tell? She should be calling herself Mrs. Sherrod Brown.

Slaves2Darkness: Ummm...so some reporter or maybe wanna-be reporter forgot to do their research. Why is this news? Happens all the time.

Because of the unbearable self righteousness of the right wing "journalists" who were planning to shriek and rend their garments over the "librul meedya" for weeks on end about this "scandal". The blogger who contacted Shultz was planning to embarrass and humiliate her, and she got the upper hand. We normal people love stuff like this.

This chick is married to that racist lady at the FDA who was caught on videotape taking money from white farmers to give to black welfare recipients? GAY-married? To a SITTING US SENATOR?! And you libs think this is OK?

I hope this contraceptive-using Mohammed-whore gets outed by the brave reporter searching for the truth. Shine your light on j0urn0lists and unelected corrupt government officials ruling by fiat, and let no threats of taqqiyah or ummalah or hummus keep you from your charge.

Fight on, brave patriot.

Willie Geist once sat with Mark Halperin as his "epic fail" unfolded. And then Willie Geist shot him a stare that told the world "Mark Halperin is a retard" (see above).

Get Direct TV, or don't be labeled a Mark Halperin-esque Retard by Willie Geist.

Yeah, you'd never hear about a Republican doing that. Just ask Linda Gersten or Elaine McConnell.

That's some bullshiat. When a reported farks up like that and the editors run with it anyway, everyone involved should be called out publicly. Anything less is encouraging shiatty journalism.

I think the truly awesome thing to do would have been to issue a boilerplate sounding non-denial that was 100% truthful:

"I have known Mr Brown for several years, and I want to assure you that my relationship with Mr Brown is one of longstanding respect and regard. Further I would like to make it clear that I would never engage in any activity that overstepped the boundaries of that relationship, or which might cause others to misinterpret the nature of our relationship. "

A better writer than I would make it a bit longer, with at least on phrase in it that could be culled out and quoted as a giant gotcha by the "journalist" doing this "investigation." Then see if anything actually ever got published about it.
