True Fact: Patty Griffin's "Flaming Red" album is one of the best discs you don't have.

2012-07-18 12:39:55 PM
So he's marrying his daughter's best friend's son?

2012-07-18 12:44:15 PM
Seems a stop down from what I assume he really wanted. Alison Krauss already taken.

2012-07-18 12:44:51 PM
It all started when Robert Plant hired Patty in an effort to make another album similar to his Alison Krauss collaboration Raising Sand...

I hope she doesn't call him by another guy's name when he tries to make love to her.

I also hope she's not big-legged. I hear they have no soul.

2012-07-18 12:46:48 PM
Yeah, OK.
He's well within the "Half plus Seven" rule allowed ages.

2012-07-18 12:47:51 PM
He was thinking: "Is This Love that I'm feeling? Here I Go Again. If I do not marry her, I will wake up in a cold sweat in the Still of the Night."

2012-07-18 12:51:02 PM
That's the way, you heartbreaker.

NO Moran! Those are all Hearing Impaired Leopard songs made famous by the movie Steel Dragon starring Katie Homes husband and the guy who was married to Kim Bay Singer, and the girl from Strictly go Dancing: American Edition!

Thank goodness that lyric was about his daughter. He changed it to match her age whenever they performed it live.

No, RTA: They eloped in TEXAS, not Jamaica.

;)

Texas? Hot dog!

2012-07-18 02:33:05 PM
That's right, he's now from Texas. Half the time, anyway. Texas women are the best though.

the pair recently set up home in an "old crack house" in Austin and it is filled with termites.

Evidently, it's quite common to run into Robert Plant at the Home Depot.
And if it's in South Austin, that termite shack is worth 250K.
Ridiculous.

Heh, I was halfway expecting it to be Alison Krauss.

When that album came out I figured there must have been some ulterior motive to their collaboration :)

If the sun refused to shine, he would still be loving her.

Give a me break... You do realize old-time blues songs are simply re-worked slave chants, don't you...
If anything, Zeppelin brought more originality to the music than did the artists they borrowed it from.

^This. Blues was meant to be "shared" and "borrowed". Its part of the genre.

Ever notice how many blues songs sound like 5-6 other blues songs?

OK - Day One Zep fan, and I think they are one of the most influential and important rock acts from "my generation".
However...
They did push back when confronted with "borrowing" a bit too heavily from some of the old standards, specifically Robert Johnson and other Delta blues artists of the past. In fact, I believe it ended up in court.

However (part 2)...
They did pay up eventually, and even made pilgrimages to the Delta to kind of play the "Sorry Song" and build up historical interest in that musical form.

I think it had more to do with how this type of imitation-as-flattery was handled in the 60's-70's more than any form of greed on their part.

And T.Rex - I agree with your statement, so just because I'm quoting you, doesn't mean I'm dissing you...

Friend of mine just sold a South Austin termite shack for 400k. You can't swing a cat down there without hitting a rich hipster.

ok... ok... Though it stems from a real sentiment of others, so i wanted to get it out there. I do realize that WIllie Dixon actually copyrighted his music, thus Zeppelin did technically steal from him... but its not like Willie Dixon came up with what he copyrighted in the first place.

I do love Willie Dixon by the way.. i love Robert Johnson. I love Led Zeppelin. And its Zep, who's music prompted me to go back in time and to learn more about the music... To me, its an homage....

I suppose I could have made the joke a little more obvious - I have everything Zeppelin ever did in the studio and several live shows from the 70s and their Page/Plant tour in 1995, saw them at MSG on that tour in October, etc.

Yep, same here. When i was a teen i got to meet Willie at a small blues show at a community college sponsored by a foundation Keith Richards and Eric Clapton set up. Willie was keynote speaker, and didn't play. After signing a program for my dad who couldn't attend, i asked if he could sign one for me as well. His manager said no, only one autograph per person. Willie wasn't having that though. He personalized it for me, and thanked me for coming to the show. The mans hands were enormous.

Yep. By all accounts he's a good egg. I also really dug "Raising Sand", by the way.
