We get it, Tennessee. They're various shades of brown.

It's all about the economy and taxes, huh?

Over the last year or two Tennessee has been the stealth candidate for dumbest state in the Union, giving such traditional candidates Arizona and Florida a real run for the money

By the way, the state Senate majority leader, a Republican of course, is being challenged by a Teabagger on these exact grounds - that he promoted Shari'a Law as Majority Leader, because the Governor appointed a Muslim woman who once worked for the Obama White House.

They certainly do sound taxed enough already, don't they?

Hard to take a "live and let live" attitude when they insist on sharing the crazy.

Kevin Kookogey, chairman of the Williamson County Republicans, was more forthright...

He's a kook, all right.

Damn Teabaggers.

"Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam has elevated and/or afford [sic] preferential political status to Sharia adherents in Tennessee, thereby aiding and abetting the advancement of an ideology and doctrine which is wholly incompatible with the Constitution of the United States and the Tennessee Constitution," the Williamson resolution, dated July 10, 2012, states.

Ah. I see the problem now. They're irony-challenged. Common affliction among Teabaggers, I hear.

And pressed about the opposition to gay employees at the Department of Children's Services, Mallory said he would have to think it over before he could offer a comment. "I'm going to hold off comment on that one," he said. "I don't know how to respond appropriately to that one."

Sure, guffaw all you want libs. TN is taking on the problem most other states have been afraid to approach out of fears of upsetting the political correctness demanded by libtards and the MSM.

1. They are the only state to pass Anti-Sharia Law statuates which would imprisson Islams to 15 years in jail for practicing their treasonous poison.

2. TN, more than any other state, experienced first hand what the muzzies are up to during 9/11. Link Can you imagine forever having your baby's birthday linked to such a horrific day? The odds of that are a million to one, and it's a damn shame.

3. Nashville is an obvious target due to the brave speaking out by our Country and Western stars (well, most of them... I'm looking at you Dixie Chickens)... but of course, Hollywood wants nothing to do with the music Real America listens to, so just let the Grand Ol Oprey be torn down to make another mosque, right libs?

4. Listen to these 2 quotes, and decide who's side you want to be on...

"Only in the Roman Empire and in Spain under Arab domination has culture been a potent factor. Under the Arab, the standard attained was wholly admirable; to [Islamic] Spain flocked the greatest scientists, thinkers, astronomers, and mathematicians of the world, and side by side there flourished a spirit of sweet human tolerance and a sense of purist chivalry. Then with the advent of Christianity, came the barbarians. Had Charles Martel not been victorious at Poitiers-already you see the world had already fallen into the hands of the Jews, so gutless a thing Christianity!"

"Individual Moslems may show splendid qualities. Thousands become the brave and loyal soldiers of the Queen: all know how to die. But the influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytising faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science - the science against which it had vainly struggled - the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."

One is Hitler, one is Winsten Churchills... Which side do you want to be on libs?

Keep fighting the good fight TN!!! Don't become another Michegan!!!

They'll argue the "No Religious Test" clause only applies to the Federal government, deny that this is an establishment of religion, and claim that anyway the Fourteenth Amendment doesn't actually mean the states are also bound by the First Amendment, because George Washington went to Church.

Or something like that.

The county GOP resolutions denounce Ali as an expert in "Sharia compliant finance."

Fun fact: Sharia law was one of the first western legal systems to afford women various rights in marriage (including, for the time, fairly loose restrictions and low penalties on divorce), allow non-financial disputes to be settled in the equivalent of civil court via financial restitution rather than criminally, and allow citizens to dispose of their property outside of a strict system of inheritance handing over all properties to the blood/adopted heir.

I can see why the Tea Party would have issues with this, sounds like durned librul balderdash to me.

Tennesseans prefer to copulate with their own kin, see? Once you get all kind of foreigners there, Muslims, Hawaiians, communists, etc, well none of these people share direct family links with the local Tennessee population, so the population is gonna go DOWN.

And if they're dark-skinned foreigners, it's practically impossible to imagine that they may very be a distant and very attractive cousin.

Muslims can't use credit in the same manner as other people under the strictest intrerpretations of their religion. So what they need is more of a service. Instead of getting a individual loan for a significant capital expenditure, my understanding is that instead they need to have someone buy it for them, and then they lease to own. It's a practically insignificant difference, but I believe that is what the hillbilly was refering to with all the grace and insight typical of one of his inbreeding.

You know who else wanted to restrict freedoms and rights on a religious minority?

Yet these are the same people that parade with Obama as Hitler photos.

A petition needs to be started asking these states to just please leave. Pack up and secede. I think we should make it a law that if Texas, Arizona, Tennessee, Missouri, Oklahoma and a few others with to form their own union we should support them in every way.

Short of that we just force them out. Enough of this bullshiat already, just get rid of these backwards inbred retards.

Those people would drop a deuce on one corner of the Constitution, and then wipe their cornhole with another corner, if it furthered their goals. They don't really care about that document. Hell, there are teabaggers who have now reverted to basing laws on the Magna Carta just because they can't incorporate all of the components of the Constitution without contradicting themselves.

I'm going to say something I only say very, very rarely: the Republican Party is doing the right thing. The actual state party isn't endorsing this and is distancing themselves. If tomorrow all the subsidies were gone,
That others worked for all their life
I'd have to beat again
That face of my children and my wife

I'd thank my lucky Bible
To be hating Muslims here today
Because the flag still stands for freedom
As long as you don't count rights for gays!

Cuz I'm proud to be an Amercian!
Where at least I can be tax free!
And I won't forget the men who lied
To give that derp to me
And I'll proudly stand up next to you
And defend Dick Armey's crap today
Cuz their ain't no doubt, I love some T.E.A.
God Bless the U.S.A.!

That's the fairness and spirit of bipartisanship I've come to expect, both from asshole Tennesseeans and the GOP in general:

The media must be fair and balanced, but only if you hire 100% conservative Republicans.
The government must not pick winners and losers, unless it makes winners of the GOP and losers of the Dems.
A person's worth is based on the content of their character - their work ethic and their demonstrated skill - unless they're liberals or Muslims.
We live in a meritocracy, but we've decided you and your beliefs are without merit.

// TN is one of the only places in the US I've felt nervous to admit I was Jewish

Bendal: I swear I wouldn't recognize my state of birth now, after not living there for nearly 30 years. The counties mentioned are seriously rural, but I grew up in a rural county as well and don't recall this level of bigotry, prejudice and hatred, ever.

How did this kind of behavior become accepted and even encouraged, by one of the main political parties in this nation?

I live here now in one of the Urban areas (Tri-Cities) and it's all around. I grew up in a rural county where in the mid-90s a group of citizens got together to create a pre-school for the children of migrant farm workers. All hell broke loose. The families that started it got terrorized. Death threats, barn burnings the whole deal. Thankfully, they endured and now the school helps keep a lot of toddlers out of the hot sun while their parents work for the local farmers. There are good people here, I would say 10% are good caring people, 80% don't really care as long as they have basic needs and wants met, and 10% are bat shiat crazy who do a lot of harm. Unfortunately, the crazies are louder than the rest of the population.

MadMonk: So, when do we start to hear the cries of "Tea Party Uber Alles!"?

That sounds like one-a them socialisty languages.

Instead, just have one of the JOB CREATORS (money be upon them) set up an "employment center" on some empty land. The workers could turn it into something more productive than an empty plot - gardens, dormitories, workshops, showers, offices... - and to spur the motivation of these workers, the sign over the entryway will read "Work Makes You Free".

It's an uplifting sort of phrase for an uplifting sort of place, if you really concentrate on the idea.

Haslam to be successful. And I want Gov. Haslam to fire some liberal Democrats and replace them with conservative Republicans. That's what I would like to see."

It's simply unacceptable. If gays and illegals agree with a republican, it's time for them to start moving the line a bit, huh?

FTA "We stand behind our governor, Gov. Bill Haslam, 100 percent," state Republican Party Chairman Chris Devaney told TPM. "We do think, while the county parties are certainly free to pass such resolutions, that they're distracting during an election year."

Translation: We're trying to win here, stop showcasing the crazy in our ranks. Polls show it's going to cost us a lot of votes. Wait until the spotlight has moved on.

Once FOX and their handlers got involved, the original (and largely unheard of) Tea Party didn't stand a chance. It's cute that they tried to stretch that whole "we only care about the budget, and are non-partisan" line of sh*t for as long as they did.

Imagine that I started a small band of people pushing for single-payer health care, and sold it to insurance companies in exchange for greater visibility. What's the worse that could happen?

The hoverounds will need to be powered with dilithium crystals, otherwise it will not work.

alywa: Sure, guffaw all you want libs.

The Tea Party is showing it's true colors. Sure, it may have started out without a racist, homophobic, fascist, cowardly agenda, but it was comprised of the same racist, homophobic, fascist, cowards that have been part of the "Republican Base" for the past 20 years.

Conservatism is for the selfish, cowardly, stupid, and greedy. It exists only to oppose progress towards a just and prosperous society, and as such will always lose. That's why conservatives are so vicious. They're the stormtroopers from Star Wars, Orcs from LOTR, they only exist to lose.

I mean, it is a thing. Since usury and certain types of fees are prohibited under many interpretations of Islamic law, a separate set of banking practices are often found in Muslim countries. (wikipedia)

That being said, three things:

1. She doesn't seem to be trained in Islamic Finance, based on the CV presented in the article.
2. I'm not sure I'd object to people in government studying how other institutions have managed to stay afloat without exploiting people for profit.
3. "Oh god, no! Save me from interest-free loans!"

nashville is considered a liberal haven in TN, hell any densely populated area of the state except for Knoxville could be considered a liberal haven - it's the reason there's been so much friction over the Murfreesboro Mosque - Murfreesboro itself is a diverse college town but the county it's in is full of tea bagger morons

the state is weird like that, eastern TN was pro-union in the civil war to the point of declaring themselves not part of TN, they had tons of big federal projects during the Roosevelt era but today one could consider it as southern and redneck as it gets, middle TN has always been divided, western TN has about as much in common with Memphis as Memphis has in common with the rest of the state - nill

so sure, there are lots of annoying viewpoints, best thing you can do is ignore them much in the same way tea baggers don't represent the United States as a whole either

That's because these people see a grave threat behind every tree. By definition, they're sissies. Horrible thing, to live in fear every day. It's precisely what those terrorists wanted.

In utterly predictable fashion, they ascribe general weakness to liberals. The "take your worst flaw and accuse your enemy of it" tactic is why you see so many pictures of projectors in the politics tab. The overall undercurrent of their language has been that liberals are too wimpy to take the bull by the horns. About the only wimps I see are teabaggers terrified of their own shadows. It's sad (but also amusing) to watch them spend so much time on things that make them feel strong (military worship, 2nd Amendment, constant references to our brave Founding Fathers). Sorry, but from where I sit it's all the American people who decided not to sh*t themselves following 9/11 who are packing the gear to hold the fabric of America together.

Man up, Nancy.

BTW, I am highly amused that the Obama administration completely stripped the GOP of their reliable "We'll all die in a foreign attack if you vote Democrat" platform. If anyone reading this is very young, it has been a key plank of bullsh*t for decades now. And now it's gone. Obama kills everything he sees.

Stand proudly with the Christian Heritage of this great nation and stand against the radical Islamists. Ensure that you have not, even by happenstance, fallen into the trap of using Sharia approved money management skills. Simply email or fed ex me copies of your most recent financial statements as well the small fee of one hundred dollars.

I will review the documents and ensure that you are not following the rules of Sharia, and if you are will give you a detailed plan to rennouce your heathen ways.

That's how I feel about New Orleans and Louisiana. But even though I live in a fun, permissive, and mostly liberal town, I'm still subject to state law, and national embarrassment. So are you.

Seriously, we (Louisiana) are using tax dollars to send kids to Christian schools. The school that has received the most 'scholarships' has a DVD-centric 'curriculum,' window-less classrooms and no library. There is plenty of talk of barring Muslim-affiliated schools from participating in the program, which most of us would find amusing if not for being so farking sad. Some of our Reps. are on the vanguard of doing everything possible to make abortion unobtainable short of being able to overturn the ruling itself. We're circling the drain in nearly every statistic that matters, and offer only more derptastic and already failed solutions to everything. But hey, Jesus!

And don't get me started on volcanoes.

At least by living in NOLA, I don't have to encounter too many religious teabaggers on the streets. Drunks, hookers, gutter punks, hipster douchebags, hapless tourists, rude and outright untrustworthy cops, open-mic poetry nights, discarded crawfish shells, people who think they're vampires, and some guy trying to piss on my stoop until I turn the high-pressure hose on him...but no teabaggers.

Or, in order to see how current derp descended from classic derp without waiting for the library to deliver your dead-tree doorstop, take the derp and replace "gay", "Muslim","immigrant", or "Dem" with "Jew" or "Negro". Why not? The reverse is all the derpers did.

True. But St. Tammany and St. Bernard Parrishes more than make up for that.

Choosing to live your life by a certain set of religious standards isn't Un-Constitutional.

In fact, it's literally the exact opposite - it's one of the few things that the Constitution *explicitly* protects, and was deemed so important by the people who wrote the thing that they put it as one of the first things on there.

Fox News... Rush Limbaugh... and the Christian Church.

dickfreckle: PreMortem: Evangelical fundamentalists have taken over my TEA Party? It's more likely than you think.

/Would be laughable if not so scary

Once FOX and their handlers got involved, the original (and largely unheard of) Tea Party didn't stand a chance. It's cute that they tried to stretch that whole "we only care about the budget, and are non-partisan" line of sh*t for as long as they did.

Imagine that I started a small band of people pushing for single-payer health care, and sold it to insurance companies in exchange for greater visibility. What's the worse that could happen?

I was one of the first members of the South Carolina Tea Party, and one of the first four local coordinators for Columbia SC, back in early '10. I stayed in that post for all of six months before I quit. When it started, we had folks from all groups, mostly businessmen, and our goal was to cut taxes for everyone and on everything. Then the herpaderp started and all of a sudden the one black coordinator was gone, the one Korean coordinator (me) was gone, and instead of pushing for low taxes and a balanced budget, the party is pushing to be gun-toting, illegal hating, Bible thumping gay bashing Fox personalities. Breaks my heart that something with such potential was corrupted so badly.

Tickle Mittens: doyner: The county GOP resolutions denounce Ali as an expert in "Sharia compliant finance."

What this is I don't even...

What you wrote is more-or-less ways muslims deal with interest, which they're not allowed to do. Yes, that's pretty much Shari'a law with regards to finance. What these hillbillies are against is a muslim woman working in the finance department of the state, even though she was taught standard US-compliant, interest charging (or paying) financial programs. She can't enact Shari'a based finance because the other parties are not used to it, so they'll go, "Uh, can't you just put 10% down, amortize the remainder over 20 years?"

When the Tea Party first appeared and their message was limited to "no more taxes and reduce spending", I seriously contemplated joining. But after taking a closer look, I realized they were really just the fundy camp of the Republican party trying to pull a fast one. I knew it was just a matter of time before their true colors appeared. I'm staying independent.

dericwater: Yes, that's pretty much Shari'a law with regards to finance.

There are various interpretations of Shari'a depending on the cultural context, including for finance. There really isn't one such thing as Shari'a, any more than Rabbis agree in lockstep on what constitutes Halacha. In terms of Shari'a compliant finance there is also the issue of municipal bonds and post-charging fees for usage rather than taking out interest bearing loans. Its a vary lucrative field in international finance right now. Just ask Lloyd's TSB.

Given her role as a director of economic and community development, I'm betting that was one of the things she focused on improving given the growing muslim-immigrant populations. Access to capital is good for business, communities, and incidentally capitalism, but don't tell that to the hillbillies.

Again, only a guess on my part as to what got his crusty overalls in a twist.

FTFA: Conservatives and Tea Party activists in Tennessee have recently pushed several Republican Party county organizations to pass resolutions criticizing the state's Republican governor for, among other things, employing Muslims, gay people, and Democrats.

They wanted to add Jews to that list, but they were afraid of the "But Jesus was a Jew!" backlash they would have gotten from the Bible thumpers.

I think this is hilarious, considering that these same folks are pushing Tennesseans to vote for a Mormon for president. Some of the ultra-conservative folks have got to be shaking their heads in confusion, "Do we vote for the Black Muslim or the Heathen Mormon?"

No asshole, the job you are paid to do involves representing the people in your district, regardless of religion or political affiliation. Not "fighting the other party at expense of the taxpayers" or targeting people someone doesn't like, for politically-motivated firings.

It would be most illegal to fire that women, simply because she is Muslim.

Serious Black: Jim_Callahan: The county GOP resolutions denounce Ali as an expert in "Sharia compliant finance."

Arab people are also responsible for developing algebra and the first systems of written language.

It doesn't work that way in Republiderpia. In their minds, the only thing wrong with America is that liberals exist. Get rid of them, and everything will be peachy.

Hey, GOP: waving your hand and saying "make it so" is not a solution. You can't pray away our social ills, and you can't "de-liberalize" America back to greatness. You actually have to do some real work. I know that goes against everything you believe in, but get with the program.
