Okay NATO? You Paying attention? New Rule: Spread the trucks carrying Fuel evenly around your convoys instead of having them all bunch up in the middle. Trust me on this one, it'll save you a lot of trucks.

What is it we are doing over there? People say we are trying to win. Win what? How do we know we have won?

I swear to god, you should be required to read the history of the Vietnam war before your allowed to vote.

I never though invasion was a good idea. We should just have just bombed the shiat out of the place from time to time without comment.

Pretty much my thoughts too. You would think the military had learned something by now but apparently not.

All members of congress should have to Read Smedely Butler's "War is Racket" before sanctioning any more military(or para-military) action in any other soviergn nation.

what would that accomplish? destory their industry and capability to make war? eventual forcing the state to submit to demands?

or does it just make you feel good to bomb the people still in the stone age, don't even have to bomb them back into it.

What would be your end goal? just to kill them all? to grow an entire new generation of american hating young people? unify the populace behind their current leaders who are some of the most backwards farks on earth?

The bombing runs into germany weren't just to make cool time-life videos for jingoists to jerk off to 60 years later.

Win the election, hold out another four years, dump the responsibility for letting the region return to Taliban control in some Republican schlep's lap.

Wrong.
But Subby is on the right track with pallets of cash - just lose the pallets:

Next time don't bother with a military campaign to level some mud huts and rebuild them later.
Just have a few planes drop the billions of dollars the campaign would have cost in single dollar bills all over the country. If you remember not to drop the pallets, there'll be a lot fewer deaths, the people will still be busy picking up all that cash years later and chances are that the end result will be better.

Yeah how do you think they choose where the money goes for those types of operations? So-and-so's brother owns a company that provides parts for a certain airplane. Another guy is is invested in a company that makes body armor. Etc etc etc

1933 speech by Marine General Smedley Butler:

War is just a racket. A racket is best described, I believe, as something that is not what it seems to the majority of people. Only a small inside group knows what it is about. It is conducted for the benefit of the very few at the expense of the masses. . . .
There isn't a trick in the racketeering bag that the military gang is blind to. It has its "finger men" to point out enemies, its "muscle men" to destroy enemies, its "brain men" to plan war preparations, and a "Big Boss" Super-Nationalistic-Capitalism.
It may seem odd for me, a military man to adopt such a comparison. Truthfulness compels me to. I spent thirty- three years and four months in active military service as a member of this country's most agile military force, the Marine Corps. I served in all commissioned ranks from Second Lieutenant to Major-General. And during that period, I spent most of my time being a high class muscle- man for Big Business, for Wall Street and for the Bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism.
I suspected I was just part of a racket at the time. Now I am sure of it. Like all the members of the military profession, I never had a thought of my own until I left the service. My mental faculties remained in suspended animation while I obeyed the orders of higher-ups. This is typical with everyone in the military service.
I helped make Mexico, especially Tampico, safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefits of Wall Street. The record of racketeering is long. I helped purify Nicaragua for the international banking house of Brown Brothers in 1909-1912 (where have I heard that name before?). I brought light to the Dominican Republic for American sugar interests in 1916. In China I helped to see to it that Standard Oil went its way unmolested.
During those years, I had, as the boys in the back room would say, a swell racket. Looking back on it, I feel that I could have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents.

We're there to win the hearts and minds of a random collection of tribes with a mindset that hasn't evolved since the seventh century. We will succeed where the last 17 foreign invaders who tried to introduce them to "modern" ideas have failed.

Yeah and that's gone over about as well as supporting brutal regimes in the Cold War. "Yeah, their dictator is a plundering, genocidal, incompetent lunatic, but at least he doesn't like the Russians!"

You mean the same group America supported, even up until 2001 with the Bush administration?

Step 1: bring corrupt brutal regime to power
Step 2: watch them wreck havok
Step 3: take them out
Step 4: profit!

My search was not related to this, but I recently found this speech by Neil Degrasse Tyson telling how the rise of Islam took the Arab world from a commanding role in scientific discovery to... well, nothing. It's quite an eye opener and he wonders, as I did, how much scientific advancement was quashed by Islam. Not mentioned is the other travesty of science, the suppression of scientific facts by the Catholic Church (Galileo, et. al.)

The Erosion of Progress by Religions
