But if we try to improve the health of this country with laws and initiatives, it's socialistisms. So you can see the quandary we're in.

1. If there is waste or fraud going on with SSDI cheating, we should stop that.

2. You would have to be a pretty lazy piece of shiat or extremely desperate to be on SSDI when you could, in fact, find a job and work. SSDI doesn't pay very much.

Wow, that is some serious intellectual dishonesty. No reason is given why they give the numbers just from 2008 to present (but I think I can guess) nor is there any discussion about how many people joined SSDI from 2004-2008, or 2000-2004, or any other four-year period. There is no reason to believe that the numbers of people joining SSDI are significantly higher than they were previously, simply that they are higher than job growth during a recession.* Nor do the numbers of people joining disability necessarily have anything to do with the loss of jobs.

My point is, what a terrible article.

/*they may indeed be higher. I couldn't find that information as the googles simply brought up reiterations of this bizarre "jobs-to-disabled" ratio on crazy right-wing sites.

Oh, hey, look what I found.

So, if I'm reading this chart correctly, the number of people on SSDI went from 7.4 million in 2008 to 8.7 million in 2012, or an increase of 1.3 million.

And the number went from 6.2 million in 2004 to 7.4 million in 2008, or an increase of 1.2 million.

And from 5.0 million in 2000 to 6.2 million in 2004, or an increase of 1.2 million.

My god, what a nation of cripples we have become under Fartbongo!!

I really agree we need to stop the SSDI fraud. I think it does exist. My dad's a judge and he says most of the people he sees in criminal court claim disability - people who do not seem to outwardly have any disabilities other than probably having a strong desire not to work, in a lot of cases.

That said, there is something to the aging population in the US - people are getting older, some of them have been laid off and can't pay for medical care so they become disabled.

I think the country needs to cut down on the SSDI fraud. But to point #2, SSDI certainly does not pay a lot. If more jobs were available, I think you'd have less people 'gaming the system'. When you're faced with losing everything and claiming disability...it's hard to argue what a person in that situation might do.

if they want the benefit, then by golly, let's qualify them for it.

I read an article in the NYT that stated disability claims were going up because there were people who could qualify for disabled, yet were working; when the economy tanked and they couldn't find a new job they filed for disability. It makes sense. Disability claims here in Ohio are backed up a good 2 years or more.

Never underestimate the laziness of some people. It boggles the mind. I mean, I'm lazy; I admit it. But it has never crossed my mind to not work for a living.

Oh. You're one of those people. You're the ridiculous asshole who makes smartass "whispering" comments about me because you can't see the muscles in my body deteriotating, though they are at an alarming rate. Nor can you see the hip joints in my sockets that don't fit - which make it hard to walk. Nope. You see a young man who can walk so therefore isn't disabled.

10/10, I admit I went for it. But people like you should burn in hell - or rather, should develop an illness that isn't obvious to morans like yourself and then have to deal with their bullshiat complaints.

Gee, could it be that people who are having a really hard time finding work might now be exploring other options because you still need money to live in this country?

I'm not saying the claims are fraudulent. I'm saying that people who may have previously been able to find very specialized work before may be SOL now.

I'm going to lay some of the blame on the doorstep of jackass lawyers whose TV commercials declare "nobody intimidates our clients" and all that crap. If you're lazy trash, and have no intention of mending your ways, then you see in that ad someone who wants to help you fight for official sanction to remain lazy trash.

Also not wild about persuading people they can be relieved of $20,000 in tax debt to IRS, but that's another thread ...

You can't tell by looking at them any more - when such things as asthma and turrets are considered a disability then who knows. Hell - with this administration, being on Welfare should get you a handicap sticker....or being DIM witted.

A piece of shiat who used to work here recently got onto disability. He's about 55 years old, and complained all the time about this or that, but nonetheless always made it to work and could work all day. His job was a physical one, no less, out in the heat. He barely ever missed a day for years. He managed just fine. He was rejected something like three times, then he finally got a lawyer and somehow got approved for disability. There's dick wrong with him. Then he has the audacity to come here and talk about it, despite the fact no one here likes him, including the owner.

He came in once last year and started talking to me, after getting laid off from the job he had after working here. He goes "Well, I've only got about $2,000 left in my banking account and this is the last week of unemployment. Just went down to the flea market and bought three guns." A few months after that, his daughter said he was acting weird and said he was suicidal, which he said he wasn't, but they did an involuntary mental health jailing on him (Baker Act in Florida) anyway and took his guns away temporarily, which from what I understand he got back.

A business associate who used to hire him for temp work said he wouldn't hire him anymore because he suspects he was stealing money and equipment. Real class act. Thank god for that lawyer getting him disability, he really deserves it.
