From the article:
I remember taking that off-ramp. His name was Mark and he was older (27 to my 18), mysterious and gorgeous. And while my hormone-fueled brain was acutely aware my dad was having a hard time coping -- his wide, frightened eyes might have given it away -- the Mark vortex had rendered me incapable of caring much (Sorry, Dad!).

I am going to go out on a limb and suggest dad was more consternated about his barely legal daughter dating a 27-year-old than losing a tennis partner.

Kirsty Ewens says her father had a "total meltdown" when she indicated she wanted to live with her boyfriend. So he came up with a solution. He built another house on his property for her and her beau to live in.

"My dad has always overreacted in any fear he would lose my companionship," Ewens said. "He calls me 2-3 times a day," she says. "We live (300 feet) apart."

Cut the strings, man. If my dad called me 3 times a day I'd change my number....and we actually get along.

The more you tighten your grip, the more she'll just slip your fingers......probably onto the fingers of someone you despise simply out of a sense of rebellion and spite.

Is it just me or is this the creepiest article posted on Fark this week? These feelings may well be true, and they may well be unavoidable. But for the love of all that is good and holy in the world, there are some things that are better off not being aired in public.

Jesus Christ.

And these girls acting like it's so flattering and cute the way their dads get jealous of their sexual partners.."hahaha, daddy is upset because I'm having sex with another man... it's like I'm his wife or his girlfriend or something! Teehee!"

Same here, think he was more worried about her getting used and abused, than falling in love.

Where would we be without girls with daddy issues?

The stripping, porn, and prostitution industries would be virtually nonexistent.

I already told my daughter my rules for dating: no dating until after she is married.

/luckily she has a sense of humour

I try to repeatedly bash it into my daughters' skulls that Disney movies are bullsh*t. I tell them that there is no prince out there, that there is no white knight, that they have to take care of themselves when they leave home. I have pushed them to be as independent as possible, and I know I can only do so much, as I don't have them all the time.

But my oldest is 19. She's in college. She has fallen in love with a 25 yr old post grad student. She is realizing I'm right- your happiness is your responsibility. I'm glad to see she sees this and it has allowed me to trust her with her own life.

F*ck Disney and f*ck white knighting. I want my daughters strong and independent.

I have a good 15.5 years (hopefully) to figure out how to work around that hurdle.

Seems simple to me.

"You aren't going anywhere until the doorbell rings and I get to meet him."

ChipNASA: lilplatinum: ha-ha-guy: Yeah, I stopped be cooling to hang out with long before either of my daughters hit 18. But my 18 year old daughter with a 27 year old, damn right I'm running Mark off.

Its not even the age difference that is the problem, its the fact that you know he is a farking winner if he is 27 and still can stand to be around 18 year old girls, let alone is sad enough to have to date them.

Honestly,
THIS!!
I have an 18 year old intern working for me and despite the fact that she is smoking hot and even though her dad is my boss and she has said a number of times "I wish you were 20 years younger"..there is NO WAY I could possibly stand banging her unless I could wrap her mouth up with duct tape....I wouldn't even want to imagine any type of "relationship". UGH

Geebus, no kidding. There are a number of student interns working in my office and they are generally hot little numbers, but their brainless jabber drives me nucking futs. Plus, most of them have the social skills of an amoeba unless they want something, then they think they can slink up to my office and put on this little act as if I were some horny frat boy blinded by a pair of bewbs. I like to sit there for a moment, give them a look, then say: "I have a daughter older than you . . . "

Speaking of daughters, the people in TFA need to get a grip. My daughter moved out of the house in 2004, first to college, then to DC, then to NYC. I see her perhaps twice a year. I do miss having her around, mainly because we share a sense of humor, but we txt and email and I see her photos on FB. I can't imagine having her living in the back yard or the spare room. I fully expected her to leave one day, so it wasn't this big surprise. About the only advice I gave her about dating was if a man hit her, hit back. And if he turned out to be a serious asshole, I knew a couple of guys who could remind him of his manners. Other than that, I've left her to her own decisions.

As the father of three daughters, I'm going to go out on a limb and agree with you.

Teenagers think they know everything, and parents are (or should be) keenly aware of how naive their kids really are. The last thing any parent wants is for their kid to get hurt. And as much as you want your daughter to learn from YOUR mistakes, the fact is that she has to make her own mistakes, and learn from them, because some lessons just aren't learned any other way.

I don't know. I can see how kids and parents fight. When I was a kid, when my parents made me do something or wouldn't let go I just got more and more spiteful.
