I hope a man with an AK-47 regularly shoots at your family.

2003-11-14 08:23:31 PM
Oh, they already did. Good for them.

2003-11-14 08:23:41 PM

2003-11-14 08:23:52 PM
God, I love Ak-47s. What a great gun... Errmm yeah umm get the bad guy uh... blue wearing cop dudes.

2003-11-14 08:24:11 PM
Good idea. Why waste your own bullets to kill yourself, when you can use the cities.

2003-11-14 08:24:42 PM
Freedom Fries, actually, atleast in Texas, 18 year olds can buy long guns. An AK-47 would be included in that, so an 18 year old can legally buy an AK-47. But that is in Texas, dunno about other states.

2003-11-14 08:27:07 PM
AK-47. NRA says it's the perfect hunting rifle.

2003-11-14 08:27:38 PM
Did he make the AK-47 himself?

2003-11-14 08:28:45 PM
I read and re-read the article, where did the article way anything about an AK?

2003-11-14 08:29:16 PM
A man armed with a rifle held police at bay for more than two hours today before he was shot once in the chest in front of a northeast Phoenix home shortly after 5 p.m.

I didn't find anything in the article about an AK-47. Did I miss it?

2003-11-14 08:29:20 PM
Actual AK-47s are rarer than hen's teeth in the USA. I'd suspect it's more likely an SAR or a Polytech AKS or a MAK90. In any case I'm glad they nailed his ass. Crazed gunmen seem to be universally bad shots with no sense of tactics whatsoever. It evens things out a lot for the good guys.

2003-11-14 08:31:40 PM
Why does everything in a five-mile radius have to be shut down just because some assclown is threatening to kill himself? Is it possible to perhaps be too safe?

2003-11-14 08:31:52 PM
AK-47 = fully automatic = NOT LEGAL in the US without a historical or collector's license

2003-11-14 08:32:47 PM
No doubt the kid's parents are saying "It's about f*cking. I was begining to think he'd never get himself killed. Now we finally have something to sue for billions of dollars over".

Want to prevent crime? Shoot the parents, not the kids.

2003-11-14 08:33:43 PM
Anyone know if it was a silenced AK47? Because one of my old clan-mates in Counter-Strike lives in Arizona, is 18 (I think), and had possesion of a silenced AK-47.

2003-11-14 08:34:01 PM
studkickass: AK-47s and the like are only legal in Arizona if you have a Class III CCW permit, IIRC. I seriously doubt he has a Class III; they're pretty tough about that out here.

2003-11-14 08:38:09 PM
Okay, nevermind, the guy in question signed on.

2003-11-14 08:39:22 PM
This is an AK-47 that is legal in America.

2003-11-14 08:39:39 PM
Where in the article did it say what kind of gun it was? All I saw was the word "rifle."

2003-11-14 08:45:08 PM
Im guessing that today wasnt a good day.

2003-11-14 08:46:16 PM
My computer made me do it.

2003-11-14 08:46:28 PM
I live in Phoenix, and I followed that story since it broke at about 3:30 PM out here.

I dont know if the article actually states it or not, but all the TV stations, radio stations, and police scanners were reporting that the kid had an AK-47.

Saw him get shot live on TV too.

This is my gun *grab dick*

Ak-47. When you absolutely have to kill every mother farker in the room, accept no substitutes.

2003-11-14 08:52:59 PM
What the hell's up with Farkers simply making shiat up in headlines lately? NO mention of an AK-47...could've been a Bop Gun for all we know.

2003-11-14 08:53:21 PM
Did the cops grab his gun and spraypaint a design near his body?

2003-11-14 08:55:21 PM
How in the hell did it take multiple police TWO HOURS to get a chest shot? I mean I only have basic training in marksmanship and tactics, but come on. That's pathetic. Someone get these cops burned copies of Counterstrike, quick.

AK-47 = fully automatic = NOT LEGAL in the US without a historical or collector's license

my friend has an AK-47, he has had it since he was 19, it is not fully automatic and it doesn't have to be. although I hear it can be easily modified to be fully automatic which is illegal though. he also owns several other weapons like an SKS, 2 shotguns and some handguns, specifically his glock which he carries with him. Yes he is a gun nut, but does he go around robbing banks and killing people? no.

I don't know why I added that last part, but ya.

2003-11-14 09:01:02 PM
Screw you, Philly!

When's the last time you've had a kid with an automatic weapon stand off with police?! Huh?!

That's what I thought.

2003-11-14 09:01:20 PM
Semi auto AK's are legal in the US without any special license.

Weird. This particular article is the only one that shows up on a Google News search. The strings I used were "Arizona hostage," "Arizona gunman," and "Arizona police." While there were plenty of hits, only our source article was about the incident in question. I was trying to find out what sort of rifle it really was, but no joy so far.

2003-11-14 09:07:59 PM
Damnit not another gun argument :(

They are as bad as the operating system arguments. Full of ignorent people who don't know what they are talking about.

/Has nothing else to say.

I can't believe it. I'm not in Jr. High, you guys are all so mean.

How in the hell did it take multiple police TWO HOURS to get a chest shot?

This is what I saw happen when I watched it all happen live on TV here in Phoenix.

Cops and SWAT teams were in a stand-off situation with the 18 y/o in the house. The kid would come out of the front door every few minutes and either walk around aimlessly, throw somthing (phone), or go to his car, and return back into the house. He kept doing that for about 2 hours. Then you could see the kid walk out of his front door again. He walked to his car for some reason, and back to the front door. He went inside again for about 5 seconds before slowing walking back out and slowly making his way around to the side of house, as if he heard or noticed somthing unusual over there. He looked around the corner, and right in front of him appeared 1 or 2 police officers. You could see the muzzle flash on the TV, when they shot him. About 15 seconds after that, about 20 cops came running up and secured the area, along with a few SWAT vehicles.

Why they didnt take a shot at him every time he came out of the house to wander around, I dont know. But, it looked like they had a plan in place to take him out, but he discovered it before they could take action. He saw it, freaked out, got shot.

Thats about the long and short of it.

Okay, I found another. The site wants registration, though, so I did't see whether or not they had pictures.

What's wrong with the newspeople? Isn't a hostage situation with a scary weapon sexy enough to get the viewers' attention? There's a real dearth of coverage about this for those of us who don't get the live coverage on TV.

2003-11-14 09:30:36 PM
At least HE got shot.

2003-11-14 09:30:36 PM
I knew someone who lived in Arizona. Apparently there really isn't much to do there besides being a farktard. Or leaving the state.

The AK in AK-47 stands for Avtomat Kalashnikova, or in english "Kalashnikov automatic rifle," a designation given by the Soviet military strictly referring to their fully automatic rifles issued to their troops.

Russia never copyrighted or trademarked the name or design, so numerous knock-offs quickly appeared, many of them semi-automatic versions for commercial sale in the US.

You can call a semi-automatic version of the Kalashnikov an AK all you want (and many are sold as AKs) but the name doesn't really fit.

It's like most people calling it a semi-automatic M-16, when the M-16 designation was applied by the US military strictly for their automatic (or burst) infantry rifles issued to troops.

2003-11-14 09:35:49 PM
Why are y'all fussing about an AK-47? Good ol' Sheriff Joe recently bought a .50 caliber machine gun at a military auction recently. I bet he's just itching for a chance to test it in/on the public sometime before Cheney declares martial law. At least our cops didn't have to fire several hundred rounds to take the guy down, like we always hear about in New York. One shot, one more off the unemployment roster.
/flame on!

1) He was obviously not working with a full deck (Stupid, nutjob, suicidal or any combination of the three).

2) As others have pointed out, I didn't see anything in the article describing the firearm as anything other than the generic term "rifle".. They didn't even use the bug-a-boo phrase of 'assult rifle'.

3) Under Federal, law individuals under 21 are prohibited from purchasing handguns. Individuals who are 18 and older may buy long arms such as shotguns and rifles. (There is an over-riding part of federal law that you can't own, buy or hold firearms if you're any of the following: Have been legally declared by a court of law as mentally impaired; Using ilegal drugs; Convicted of a felony; Dishonorablely discharged from the military. There are a few others but that's the key ones.)

4) Federal law provides for the private ownership of fully automatic firearms **IF** you have a Class-III firearms license and have paid the Class-III firearms tax on each Class-III weapon you own. All legally owned Class-III firearms are registered with the Federal Government. The private ownership of Class-III firearms is further restricted and even prohibited in numerous States and municipalities.

Besides the tax and registration, individuals who apply for a Class-III license have to undergo a background check to confirm that they don't fall into any of the prohibbited classes of individuals. The Class-III firearms have to be stored in a secure manner (usually a safe) approved and inspected by the Federal agents. Federal agents can insist upon inspecting the Class-III firearms at latter dates to insure that they're still all in the individuals possesion and still stored in an appropriate manner.

2003-11-14 10:02:35 PM
So, let me get this straight, SmokeGrinder: Basically, you'll have federal agents coming to your house once in a while to make sure all your Class-III weapons are locked in a safe, or other tightly secure means, at all times?

2003-11-14 10:07:41 PM
Anyone who thinks that being illegal is a good enough reason to disprove the notion of owning such a weapon is a moron.

2003-11-14 10:09:42 PM
That's pathetic. Someone get these cops burned copies of Counterstrike, quick.

Maybe that's the problem.. they didn't know what to do with out wall hacks and bunny hopping.
