(The Hollywood Reporter)   Rush Limbaugh is just asking questions: Did Obama's handlers invent a time machine, go back to the early 90s and infiltrate DC Comics, and create the Bane character just so voters would associate the name with Bain Capital in 2012?   (hollywoodreporter.com) divider line 185

Ravengirl: Aren't there many villains named Bane? Seems like a go-to name for a lazy writer trying to think of a bad guy.

There's an evil deity named Bane in Dungeons & Dragons. I think it's the Forgotten Realms campaign setting. There's also a Sith Lord named Darth Bane in the Star Wars expanded universe.

In case no one's noticed or mentioned it, Batman and Bane are both properties in the DC universe. I mean, you do see the connection, don't you? Washington DC?? DC Comics?? SEE??!?

It's aaaaaaall about connecting the dots.

Is there a comic character called "Cayman Islands" that can be inserted into the movie at the last minute? Surely Rob Liefeld used that name at some point, right?

Reminds me of V for Vendetta, when some people were biatching that it was all about the US and Bush and 9/11 and herp derp derp.

Bane, of the dead three.
Bane, Lord of Tyranny.
Bane who rose and struck down a god.
Bane who shall rule over all.

ALL GLORY TO THE DARK LORD!

Rush has a secret sorrow. He wants to be Right Wing Batman. Instead he is only Wing Nut Fatman.

BraveNewCheneyWorld: Sadly, Rush's audience is so delusional with anti-democratic rage that they'll actually believe this.

Precisely. Anyone who thinks Rush's audience of retirees and longhaul truckers will somehow see through this retardation is kidding themselves.

I'm pretty sure the siblings W made it very clear that the events which happened after 11 Sept 01 strongly influenced their decision to make that movie when they did.

Because it so beautifully excoriated the Right-wing media in the US and UK (Stephen Fry's character stands out) the right-wing media went -as they do- apeshiat.

Because you play with yourself at night.

Any more dumb questions from you?

TheBeastOfYuccaFlats: Romney is more of a Two-Face comparison, anyway.

Romney is "The Smiler" from Transmetropolitan.

The moron is back! How the hell are you, douchey? I figured that you swallowed your own tongue from forgetting how to chew by now.

Clearly, anyone who knew two years in advance that Bane/Bain would be an issue in the 2012 election is in possession of some kind of time machine or has some kind of soothsaying ability

Equally clearly, that person should be President. What, you're not going to vote for the guy who apparently knows in advance the issues that America will be facing over the next few years?

Here's the bumper sticker:

"Obama/Time Machine 2012: Why do you hate America?"

More and more the republicans look like villians from the comics

It goes way deeper than that. His handlers have been gradually influencing the evolution of the English language for the last thousand years, guiding the separation of the Old English word "bana" from the Proto-Germanic "banon", and then insidiously shifting its meaning from "killer" to the more modern "that which causes ruin or woe" around 1570 - probably by using drone strikes on anyone who used the old definition.

Simultaneously, Obama engineered the Norse invasions of England, leading to the introduction to Old English of the Old Norse word "beinn", meaning "straight or direct", which over time (and through his handlers' machinations) shifted to to Northern Middle English "bayn", meaning "welcoming," so that people would begin using it as a desirable surname. Eventually Obama shifted the vowel to an I, placing the name "Bain" exactly where he wanted it for the 2012 campaign's malicious associative attacks on Romney.

We're through the looking glass here, people.

Yeah, I never really got those. At least the racist Obama posters "made sense" in a way.

Yes, Subby, they did! Every bit as much as Romney time traveled back to 2000 so that he could train Al-Queda how to attack the WTC, so that everyone would associate horrific mass murder with Hussein and Osama.

Politicians will truly stop at no lengths to ensure their election.

Sabyen91: Jim_Callahan: To be fair, the first time I heard someone refer to "Bain Capital", my first reaction was that that's a bit on the nose if you're trying to pretend your company isn't evil. Given that, y'know, 'bane' is an English word meaning a personal nemesis and had been for several centuries before comic books were even a thing.

Didn't realize it was someone's name until I saw it in writing and learned the spelling.

Yeah, I came to say this. The word has been around for a long time and it doesn't conjure up thoughts of rainbows and puppy dogs.

Rush's listeners are so ignorant he could tell them that Bain means "Kill the evil commie socialist nibong" and they'd believe it.

This is the height of stupid. It seems that Rush is running out of derp. Gird your loins, Dominican boys! Rush is coming to drown his sorrows.

Nadie_AZ: "So this evil villain in the new Batman movie is named Bane. And there's discussion out there as to whether or not this was purposeful and whether or not it will influence voters. It's going to have a lot of people," he continued. "The audience is going to be huge. A lot of people are going to see the movie. And it's a lot of brain-dead people -- entertainment, the pop culture crowd -- and they're going to hear Bane in the movie and they're going to associate Bain."

Slow applause.gif

Rush just planted the bug in his listeners ear. Now they'll associate the 2.

And the bolded quote is priceless. Anyone venture to guess who else entertains huge audiences of brain dead people?

Is this the same Rush that, when called on his racism, sexism, and otherwise flat-out offensive comments, resorts to the "I'm just an entertainer" charade?

Lots of brain-death, indeed.

Wait a second!! I remember conservatives claiming the dark knight was one of the top 10 most conservative movies of all time and espoused deep republican principles... So now batman 3 is a liberal smear campaign.. From the same writer ?????!

dookdookdook: So Stewart does a parody last night about how the Batman movie was a conspiracy against Romney, and the next afternoon it's mainstream Republican "thought".

I farking love it.

[scratch.mit.edu image 480x360]

That's how farking stupid they are. So farking stupid that their idiocy cannot even be parodied. Consider that for a moment.

Rush? Oh yeah I know who that is, they were a band in the 60's maybe the 80's, but defiantly something my dad listened to when he was drugged out rapist who liked little boys.

Note to self:

When creating or working for a company that will make me even more filthy rich, and I have a desire to serve in public office in the future, be sure that said company's name isn't a homophone for a word with a negative connotation.

Nonetheless, "The first episodes of V for Vendetta [the comic book] originally appeared in black-and-white between 1982 and 1985. . ."

/Maybe Alan Moore borrowed Obama's time machine . . .

I might be naive but I don't think even Rush is this stupid. He's got to be doing some parody schtick.

You're shiatting us, right?

You're just entertaining us, right?

You know, entertainment, the huuuge audience, the pop-culture crowd that listens oh so breathlessly to your every word...?
