When asked what books were on his "bookstand," Bush said, "We don't have bookstands anymore. We've got iPads. Please."

jchic: Well...there was no sacrifice in serving the country like he did. How many days did he actively serve in the military?

There's plenty of ways to sacrifice something serving the country without being in the military; of course we're talking about a man who I don't believe even sacrificed any sleep while "serving" as president.

I really don't get why everyone was always talking about how "likable" the guy is. I can't describe him in 30 words without "insufferable" being 5 of them.

Not anonymous enough. You need to strip naked and dance in the nearest fountain singing "Star Spangled Banner" if you want everyone to completely ignore you.

relcec: If democrats were even the slightest bit intellectually honest Obama would have announced he wasn't running for a second term a year ago, seriously. he's everything you said you hated about the last guy, but on steroids.

Oh come on, he's not EVERYTHING we said we hated about Bush. And to be honest, those things that he does have in common with Bush, or Bush policies that he does support, we do criticize him for. But saying he's "Just like Bush" and implying we only support him because he's a democrat is the HEIGHT of intellectual dishonesty.

Obama is the best of a very limited number of options and unlike his predecesor and current opponant, he does actually listen to the "little people".

2012-07-17 07:27:43 PM
His only really positive trait over his time in the limelight has been an uncanny ability to piss off liberals. I can't think of another politician who could elicit such rage - and the best part is that he knows he's doing it. "Hyuk hyuk, where's them WMDs hyuk hyuk".

I've met quite a few Americans who have told me they just wanted to get the hell out of the US when Bush was in power.

relcec: Ambivalence: FlashHarry: i still maintain that if obama's name were jack smith and he had an (R) next to his name, he'd be lauded as the second reagan with exactly the same policies he's shown so far.

If republicans were even the slightest bit intellectually honest they'd have a much more favorable opinion of Obama than their current derangement. But they're not.

/and he's black.

If democrats were even the slightest bit intellectually honest Obama would have announced he wasn't running for a second term a year ago, seriously. he's everything you said you hated about the last guy, but on steroids.
a corporatist whore (ACA is but part D writ large and expanded in breadth, a mandate to buy an incredibly overpriced product) who is responsible for expanding wars, abolishing habeas corpus, and an imperial presidency (where he just straight up ignores if not rewrites laws) unmatched since Lincoln.

He withdrew from Iraq, he's withdrawing from Afghanistan (faster than Republicans would like), Libya was swift and over and the country wasn't occupied, and none of them were carried out with overbearing bravado. Yes we'd all love an end to wars, but we're not going to get it, at least we are getting competent leadership in those wars.

He's much less of a corporatist whore than the alternative, Romney is raking in much more Wall St. money and he's getting hit hard from the right from promises to raise taxes on the wealthy. He's the only candidate we have who isn't promoting trickle down economics so we have little choice.

The ACA isn't single payer sure, but that wouldn't be an option. Can you really see the politcal viability of destroying an entire sector of the private economy to be replaced by a government institution in one fell swoop? Yeah it's a band-aid and a give away, but it is an improvement. The pre-existing condition clause is huge, and wouldn't be possible without the mandate. If we get more price control measures in place then we can probably have a decent system even with private insurers.

The habeas corpus question I'll give you. I'm very uncomfortable with indefinite detention, but it is very limited in scope, as with his assassination of US terrorists. Both of these are very dangerous slippery slopes, but can hopefully be held at bay by our democracy. I can't imagine wide-scale imprisonment and assassination of US citizens happening unless things get really bad, and if so this precedent won't be the root cause anyways.

You'll have to show me where he's ignoring or changing laws, if you're talking about his Dream Act executive order, I hardly think that counts.

He's still a million times better than Bush or Romney, and there's little I've seen to dissuade me of that in the past 3 years.

Why do people act like Obama wrote the NDAA language?

He signed a defense spending bill that had enough votes to pass regardless of what he wanted

Why can't they blame Republicans for the violation of habeas corpus?

I voted for him twice and was very satisfied with my vote. I was so happy to contribute to all your BDS.

And it would have been great if that prick Jimmy Carter took the advice of not commenting on former presidents.

He was one of the worst leaders in the last 40 years. How dare he say anything. But he did.

I can't wait to vote for Romney. Too bad I live in NYC.
