I don't see why there's such focus on something so overrated that has worn out its welcome and has people wishing it would just go away.

And the Daleks are kind of annoying, too.

I'm just hoping that Moffat will go away. The man has great ideas but needs someone to keep a handle on him.

Oh you people can go die in a Planet of Fire. This has been my favorite two years of Who since the 70s.

So a Dalek sounds like a normal person, but shrill and with a little vibrato? I'm not that impressed. It didn't look that hard to nail.

I admit she's cute, for a redhead.

So it's cool to hate Doctor Who now that it's gotten more popular again? Let me check the memo and see how much butthurt I'm supposed to...

Oh wait, it's a sci-fantasy TV Show you can sit and be all geeky with your kids about! What a sin!

Now that would be a talent to have.

Thank you!

I would watch the David Tennant episodes in the background when they were on as a mild distraction. I never really got into it, it was just on.

Then I got a girlfriend that is a Doctor Who superfan and begged me to watch the Matt Smith episodes. It hooked me, damn it.

But apparently I'm suppose to find it lame now for reasons to be explained according to the Fark zeitgeist.

Sure, she's the best companion of the new series, as long as you don't care about acting or characterization or anything except OOH REDHEAD *DROOL*.

I liked Moffat's contributions when Tennant played the Doctor. Turns out he wrote my favorite episodes. Seems he's out of control now. His story lines can be hard to keep track of. I wish he'd be reined in a bit, too.

Well, that's not exactly a common opinion.

Perhaps not in this thread, or in whatever closed-off little world you live in, but IRL it most certainly is a common opinion. The show is niche. It appeals to a minority segment of the viewing public. That makes it by definition commonly unliked.

The reason there is such focus on it is that the BBC has dumped a lot more money into the show than was financially prudent, and now has to flood the market with as much of it as they can in an effort to try to make that money back. Thus the oversaturation/hyperfocus.

If you don't like Doctor Who, don't watch it. If you don't like Amy Pond, don't worry she'll be off the show soon.

If you don't like Rory, you're dead to me.

The daleks were cool when they weren't so powerful, and you could stop one by throwing a coat over it. The fact that they were so evil is what made them scary.

I used to watch Tom Baker reruns when I was a kid. My next experience was the movie with 8, which wasn't that good. I tried to get into 9, but couldn't. I didn't bother with 10 until I caught Blink showing during a marathon. After that, I watched every episode after, but Tennant still wasn't enough for me to bother with anything old. It took Moffet and Smith to make me love Who so much that I went back and caught up on a lot of the old stuff. I've watched at least a little of every Doctor now, and Smith ranks slightly above Tom Baker as all-time favorite.

As far as Amy...she's alright, I guess. As far as NuWho, she's better than Rose and Matha, but I think I liked Donna a bit better. Captain Jack was definitely better, if you consider him a companion. But with Amy comes Rory, who is my favorite companion of them all, so she gets a break.

2012-07-17 10:59:01 AM
It's plenty arguable who might be the best companion, but Amy is clearly not the worst- that fight's between Rose and Martha or maybe the pointless dipshiat that traveled with them for an episode or two, tried to steal something, and got ditched (back in the Eccleston era). He is technically a companion- he rode in the TARDIS for more than one story.

Rory is the most fun companion in NuWho, hands down. Also, Arthur Darvill could play Bob Howard in the TV series based off the Laundry series, amirite?

t3knomanser: Rory is the most fun companion in NuWho, hands down.

It's amazing how well that role is written and acted. I went from hating that guy to him being my favorite companion, maybe more than Jack. There's no way you can't love Rory.

2012-07-17 11:13:54 AM
Honestly, I like her as a character.

Yes, it does have to do with the fact that she is reaaaaally hot (in my opinion, at least), but I think she is great when is written right.

Not the BEST companion in the Nu Series (Rory and Donna are the best, again, in my opinion), but I think she´s in the better section.

/All subjective.

The BBC doesn't have to make money back. It loses money on every show it makes, except maybe Top Gear and Doctor Who.

It just makes shows, airs them without adverts, and that's it. If they sell abroad or lots of merchandising then that's great. But the BBC doesn't, *can't*, make a profit.

Maybe you are thinking about BBC Worldwide? They're the commercial subsidiary of the BBC, who make a profit that goes back to the BBC. The BBC doesn't make a profit. If it has a surplus one year it just has to spend it the next.

If you were The Doctor, isn't that EXACTLY how you would choose your 'companions'? I haven't seen the old ones, were there any male companions until the newer series (Rory and Mickey)? Even the ones I mentioned were more "along for the ride" of their hot girlfriends.
