(Tech Crunch)   Interesting: inventor has been wearing digital glasses for over 30 years. Scary: a man in McDonalds tries to forcibly remove his glasses. Asinine: they tear up his doctors letter about the glasses. Fail: His glasses recorded the whole thing   (techcrunch.com) divider line 169

On the one hand, sucks for him. On the other hand, blaming McDonald's for it is stupid. Let's blame France instead and boycott everything from that entire country!

FTFA: That a pioneer like Mann would be accosted - in Paris, of all places - is a travesty. That it would happen in that paragon of openness and light, McDonald's is an absolute shame.

Umm... what makes Paris special? They don't take shiat from customers in Paris. They don't care about your permission slips. Why I am supposed to be outraged over what some moron blogger thinks Paris is supposed to be like? There is no hero in this story, I wish the McDonalds and everyone in it could have been destroyed by some crazed french farming anarchist.

Lulz.

For some reason, I chuckled over the fact that he felt the need to mention what he ordered.

As a canadian, most of us don't, so we're not taking the blame for this.

Not only a McDonald's. One in France.

Way to break the stereotype of Americans staggering around Europe like zombies, moaning, "Big Mac... Parade magazine ...baseball scores... somebody help me..."

The person in the center (Perpetrator 1) handed the materials I had given him to the person to my left (Perpetrator 2), while the three of them reviewed my doctor's letter and the documentation.
After all three of them reviewed this material, and deliberated on it for some time, Perpetrator 2 angrily crumpled and ripped up the letter from my doctor. My other documentation was also destroyed by Perpetrator 1.

/Having seen some of the mouth breathers that work at McDonalds, I'm shocked that they could recognize the alphabet, let alone read a note with (I'm sure) at least college level words and phrases on it.

He needs his eyes checked.
And his taste buds.

What the hell is up with these McDonalds? Who gives a crap if someone photographs their menu or not? Sounds like he should be filing assault charges for what happened to him. It is pretty stupid to have a conspicuous set of glasses / camera bolted to your skull though.

Okay....I must be missing something here....Paris or US, McD's or BK, doctor's note or not....but why the fark did this happen and why are so many people in here acting like the attackers were completely justified? It's a serious question....why does he need to carry a Dr's note to where funky glasses, and why did these guys feel the overwhelming urge to rip them off?

I'm guessing he carries it around more for security reasons like if he needs to go through airport security, customs, interact with the police or if he were in a medical emergency.

Agreed.

And furthermore, in France you cannot record private citizens going about their business without their express written consent, whether they are in a private place, such as Mcd's, or out in public.

The hell with him. If he feels he must record everything and everyone let him do it in countries like the UK or the US where citizens do not own the right to their own image.

FTA: Apparently McDonald's employees in Paris don't like people taking pictures of their menus and this isn't the first time Parisian Friends-Of-Ronald attacked someone with a camera in their stores.

Maybe the French still believe that whole "taking your picture steals your soul" thing.

On one hand, I want to hate France. Because, well, just look at them.

On the other hand, I want to hate on this douchebag for recording people against their desire and having zero respect for privacy.
